We traveled with our adult sons to Iceland to see the geological sites, experience the culture and generally just travel around. First, say "yes!" to Iceland! There is a "wow" waiting around every corner and mountain pass. We chose the Hotel Ranga based on TA reviews and friend's experience. We were not disappointed. So Iceland is expensive - get used...

Amazing! The food is amazing here, you have to get a meal here, because it is excellent! The bar also has amazing drinks. The service here is great and very welcoming. Also, they let you know if there are northern lights and we were lucky enough to see them! Great hotel, food, drinks, service, and location for northern lights!

Hotel Ranga looks like a beautiful hunting or fishing lodge. It is log constructed and wood finished on the inside in what appears to be the middle of nowhere. Actually it is beside the Ranga River with a mountain view in the distance and not too far from Hella. There are hot tubs outside, but we had a room with...

We are a family of four and three are vegetarians. They beef was perfect and the vegetarian dishes absolutely wonderful. They have astronomers on staff who showed us the Milky Way Galaxy and vividly described the stars and connected the story with the Greek mythology.

This is a true four star hotel. We're nearing the end of a two week tour having stayed in nine different hotels. This was absolutely the best! The service and helpfulness of the staff was outstanding by any measure. Fridrik, the owner and hands-on manager makes the rounds to make sure all of his guests' needs are met and all...

We are in Iceland for two weeks and have stayed in a number of hotels ranging from budget to luxury and we keep coming back to Hotel Ranga. The hotel staff go the extra mile to accommodate guests. The hotel stored our car, luggage and valuables while we embarked on a five day trek. They arranged to transport us to...

This hotel was our overnight accommodation in our road trip in South Iceland. Located middle of nowhere which was ok for us. Our room #5 was facing the car park. We were triple sharing. The room was big enough for a big bed and a sofa bed. Very comfy beds. In terms of walking space, it was a tight squeeze...

Hotel is comfortable, old style, with large enough rooms (we stayed in a standard room) that are thoughtfully equipped with heated drying racks in the bathroom and enough space. Beds are good, bathrooms roomy though the jacuzzi makes a mess and is very slippery when you shower even if you're a hiker. Staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable. Breakfast is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
