Hotel is comfortable, old style, with large enough rooms (we stayed in a standard room) that are thoughtfully equipped with heated drying racks in the bathroom and enough space. Beds are good, bathrooms roomy though the jacuzzi makes a mess and is very slippery when you shower even if you're a hiker. Staff is extremely helpful and knowledgable. Breakfast is...

Gorgeous in every way. The rooms are wonderful and luxurious. Cozy and beautifully appointed. The restaurant is exceptional. Every meal was delicious from the breakfast buffet to modern Icelandic dinner menu. The manager goes from table to table at dinner greeting guests and offering his assistance for any need. The outdoor hot tubs were a huge hit with my daughter....

This was a very comfortable place for us to stay on our trip around Iceland. We had a room in the back with a great view of the river. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic! Nice clean rooms. Others have mentioned that it's a little pricey, but I think everything in Iceland is pricey. We...

I went to Iceland in April with my family to see the Northern Lights and we stayed at this property. It's situated on the banks of the Ranga River and is in an ideal location to view the Northern Lights, if mother nature cooperates. The hotel is like a 5-star log cabin. The rooms were fantastic with private Jacuzzi in...

Iceland's properties tend to be more basic (at least from my experience) so this was our one night to indulge. It was a nice room - clean, good shower, etc but not overly spectacular. We had a room facing the front of the hotel which overlooked the parking lot so not great. The rooms in the back looked at the...

We were in a deluxe room (no 48) which was at the end of a corridor and very quiet. It had a jacuzzi bath and robes and slippers and a lovely wooden deck to sit out on. There was a hot tub very close by. The room overlooked the river and I was able to watch the family of swans...

Hotel Ranga is in an isolated and remote part of Iceland. It has that (to my mind) fabulously desolate beauty that characterizes so many places there. We visited in October--pretty chilly, some snow coming, not a whole ot of daylight. Took a long walk out in the countryside--fields, a stream, interesting structures nearby. Our room was very comfortable, and there...

The best hotel on our Iceland tour. Classy, rustic decor, decent-sized rooms, superior food, and a friendly staff attentive to all the details of hospitality. And a river, full of salmon, runs through it.

Best Hotel we stayed in in Iceland. The setting is gorgeous, rooms wonderful. We were totally surprised to find such a great hotel in the middle of the countryside. Will add that the food is delicious and service is great. The only thing we did not like were the large groups that stayed there were noisy and insensitive to others.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
