This is my second visit at this hotel, having stayed there 2 yrs ago in the penguin suite. This time around, I reserved a regular room. Yes, it's considered a luxury hotel with a luxury price tag. They have a great formal restaurant for dinner, and the breakfast that they serve in the same room is one of the best...

We stayed at the Ranga hotel as part of our Iceland experience and overall it was well worth the visit. We had a three night stay, we had booked through a travel agent and I had contacted the hotel direct to arrange an upgrade as a surprise for my wife's 50th birthday - unfortunately they forgot this element although I...

Well that may appear quite a rude subject, but that's what I experienced earlier this week from the front desk attendant. I arrived without booking and expected to pay higher rate than the web, but the price quoted was exorbitant and I didn't experience the slightest moment of customer service or help with alternative options or nearby hotels. All in...

Hotel Ranga (sounds like "round-cow") will alway have the distinction of being the place I first saw the northern lights. It has a lodge-like appeal with lots of wood decor, honking geese in the marshes nearby, and wide open night sky. There is only one place to eat for miles but the restaurant was elegant and the food delicious. Waterfalls...

We stayed for two nights in the Australian suite and enjoyed it very much. The room was of top quality if a little eccentrically decorated. It had a nice view over the river Ranga and the Eyjafjallajökull volcano which caused the ash cloud a few years ago. We were given the option of the USA suite on arrival but were put...

We stayed at the Hotel Ranga for two nights in October. We were upgraded to a deluxe room which had a jacuzzi bath, outside seating area, robes and slippers. The room was North facing; I have read previous reviews recommending rooms facing the river but we we perfectly happy with the north facing room as we looked towards the mountain...

My favorite hotel in Iceland. Book one of their suites which are spacious and styled around countries like Australia, Mexico etc. The staff are superb, friendly and very attentive. There is a passion and enthusiasm here. Excellent breakfast included and dinner in the restaurant is superb, although service did tend to tail off towards the end of the evening, they...

We spent three nights here. My husband and I were in a junior suite and my son was in a deluxe room. Both are really great options. Though the junior suite was somewhat bigger than the deluxe room, what made it my favorite of the two was that it was on the second floor with a private balcony. The bathrooms...

Stayed for three nights eating in the restaurant for two and the bar for one. The hotel is very remote which is one of its attractions as the dark skies are wonderful for star gazing and viewing the Northern Lights. After two cloudy nights, we were lucky enough to see the amazing lights on our last night. In addition, the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
