I was a little apprehensive at first since I would be sharing a communal bathroom, and I was not sure what to expect, but I'm very happy I decided to stay here. the price can't be beat, the room was very cozy and comfortable and the breakfast lovely. it is a very relaxing and low key alternative to larger fancier... Check in was quick and easy. The staff gave us great recommendations and let us know how to get around the area. The building itself is beautiful. We had one of the smaller rooms because we booked last minute but it still had ample space and a nice private bathroom. The breakfast was good and there were many options for... More

You get exactly what they describe on their website, and the breakfast is good as hotel buffets go. Clean; staff was pleasant. The weirdness is that given the extreme scarcity of local supply, you're paying three times what you'd pay for this standard of accommodation most anywhere else. But that's not their fault. If you feel like a drink, let... More

My colleague and I had a conference to attend in Cambridge so we chose Irving House. We were delighted!!!!The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the morning was fantastic. It is near many different attractions so we were able to walk to where we wanted to go most of the time.

Thank you for your kind review! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. And, yes, rooms in the front of the first floor can be a little noisy, though they are very convenient.... I will remind the staff of the importance of keeping conversations in the front hall to a minimum.... We hope to see you again some time! More

This hotel reminds me of a Victorian hotel in a British movie, except that it is so full of Americana. They have different sorts of rooms from small to large and a very friendly, accommodating staff. Location is excellent, price can't be beat in Cambridge, breakfast is fresh and tasty.

My husband and I recently attended a conference at Harvard. We came by public transport and so needed a place nearby. Irving House seemed like the best of several pricey alternatives. Wrong! Our fourth floor room (no elevator), while clean, was tiny (for $366.24 including tax!). The shower stall was so small I couldn't bend over to wash my feet.... More

NikaJunie, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. While the size of some of our rooms and shower stalls, and the lack of an elevator are well-documented on this site, our site, and elsewhere, the staff behavior is definitely an aberration. I have shown your review to all of my staff. This is not our policy at... More

If you like big hotel experiences then it isn't for you but it provides a very peaceful, comfortable location to visit Boston and especially the Harvard area. Our family of 4 had one of the family rooms and felt very comfortable. Yes the bunks aren't huge but for an average size person are very comfortable. The place is spotless and... More

This place was expensive and very low service. Room was on the fourth floor and long and skinny...we felt like we had been shoved in an attic closet. Bathrooms no better than a gas station... Actually worse because they were so tiny. Breakfast was dull: rubber eggs and a few muffins. And we had to request a plate. Front desk... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I understand our guest house is not for everyone. We try to accurately describe our accommodations to all, so no one will be disappointed, but we do not always succeed. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your time in Cambridge. More

A sympathetic place, clean, calm, relaxed. We had ordered a room for 3 adults. The room we got was small with a queen size and a bulk bed for two (one above the other). The queen was fine, the bunk however to narrow and there was not really enough head clearance for adults. Fortunately my daughters are slim an short...... More

Irving House feels more like an old home than a B&B. Even if it does have an old hotel hallways and 44 rooms, it doesn´t quite seem that way. I was visiting Harvard with my daughter and Irving House was very comfortable and convenient for that. It DOES have the same 2 problems that most B&B`s have 1) there´s an... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us! I hear your concerns and on #1, we have taken steps to remedy the noise transmission from the door by providing 'snakes' to put along the bottom of the door. This blocks light as well, which some guests have appreciated. These 'snakes' are hanging on the doors, or... More
