We were a bit concerned because this is an "older" hotel. We were very happily surprised as to how large and comfortable the rooms were and the new sink, bath and shower. We took a larger room, with a full couch, comfortable chair, desk and two full sized beds. Mattresses and bedding was first rate. There is a modern elevator which is rare in an older hotel. The Berkeley is in the heart of Richmond - Shockoe Slip. Two of the best restaurants in the city are up the block and across the street. We came here with my brother and sister-in-law to celebrate his 80th birthday and my wife's birthday. The Tobacco Company Restaurant is across the street and as usual we had a fabulous meal. The front desk was very welcoming (thanks Starlet) and it was nice to have a valet service so we didn't have to worry about parking. We took in the Richmond Art Museum and the Cultural Museum. In addition, the Richmond Holocaust Museum is a particularly moving place to go. It focuses on the families who came to Richmond after the holocaust (mostly from Baltic countries). It gives an intimate portrayal of the loss and horror of Nazi Germany -- and how easy it is for democracies to be taken over by mad men. All of these museums, as well as the Poe Museum and the state capitol are within a 10 minute drive from the Berkeley Hotel. Thanks to the staff for a great stay!

Great room, clean, Keurig for tea or coffee with a comfy bed and pillows! Noah was nice at checkin. The Berkeley is within walking distance to nice restaurants too. Will be my go to hotel for Richmond downtown. TC, the valet was so helpful and made great suggestions for dining!!!

Location and accommodations are great! My only complaint is check-in isn't until 4pm and my room wasn't ready until much later. I requested an early check-in by email months in advance and was told to call the morning of check-in. I called the morning of, was reassured it was no problem, and still my room was delayed.

I regret to inform you that my recent stay at the Berkley Hotel in Richmond was a disappointing departure from the exceptional experiences I’ve had in the past. Despite frequenting the establishment for over 20 years and enjoying its incredible atmosphere, superb service, and top-notch amenities, my recent visit was a stark reminder of the significant decline in quality under what appears to be new management. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a front desk attendant who seemed utterly disinterested and displayed a level of hospitality that fell far short of the hotel’s previous standards. The once vibrant and inviting bar area has been transformed into a cluttered storage space, devoid of any semblance of its former charm. The dining room, which used to be alive with the sounds of live music and the aroma of exquisite cuisine, was eerily dark and devoid of any ambiance at the early hour of 6pm. To add insult to injury, it seems that the valet attendant may have taken undue liberties with my vehicle, leaving me with a lingering sense of unease and distrust. The state of cleanliness throughout the property was appalling, with dust and hair clinging to the wallpaper and baseboards like unwelcome guests. As someone who has long regarded the Berkley Hotel as a bastion of five-star hospitality, I am deeply saddened by the apparent disregard for its storied reputation under the new management, who seem ill-equipped to maintain the standards of excellence that once defined this historic property. It pains me to say that I will not be returning to this establishment, and I can only hope that future guests are spared the disappointment that I experienced.

Greetings Heather, My sincerest apologies regarding your stay. Obviously, none of this is keeping within the high standards we strive to provide to each and every guest. I would very much like to learn more information from your stay. If you could contact me directly it would be much appreciated. As a side note, the restaurant has been closed the last three years and is prepping to open again in two more weeks and is something everyone is very much looking forward too. That of course as well as the completion of our renovation later this year. My sincere apologies again and I do hope we speak soon.

This is our third year at this property and we will be back. The price point is great. It is a boutique hotel and staff are very helpful and personable...and here year after year. Alfreda is the best. She is so accommodating and very professional.

Oh Berkeley! What has happened to you? It has been several years since our last stay and your deterioration is major. Peeling wallpaper, thin old towels, lumpy pillows, dusty furniture, mismatched lamps, candy wrapper on the floor. You WERE our favorite hotel in Richmond. 😢

My family had a wonderful experience at the Berkeley Hotel. If you haven’t visited… you must. Located in the historic Shockoe Slip, walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants and coffee shops. Front desk was very professional and personable. My kids felt like we were in our “very own private hotel” . Rooms were huge with a beautiful terrace looking over the historic cobble stone roads. We had a delicious dinner at the Hard Shell only a few blocks away. Beds were comfortable and rooms were very quiet . The valet parking was so convenient. My family is excited to return
