We booked online which gave us a 15€ discount. The hotel is located in the centre of the town in amongst narrow streets. We paid for parking as it is not possible to drive to the hotel but we found parking in a nearby street. The only problem was trying to find it. We asked several people and eventually a local postman drew a map for us. The hotel does not have a 24 hour reception so if you arrive early you may find like we did that the front door is locked and no-one answers the phone. We waited for a while and checked in in the afternoon. We were given a choice of two rooms and both are lovely. The decor is a mix of traditional Spanish and Moroccan. Our room was very large and very comfortable facing the front of the building. The wifi signal was poor but we managed. The reception was friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good, especially the homemade cake. We would definitely return.

Very nice hotel - lovely, helpful staff and rooms were very much what we wanted. Only downside was that the TV had no English Channels, No safe or phone and you had to ask for an iron and ironing board but that aside a very clean, well decorated and pleasant stay. Location is excellent as is the quality of the food. We would definitely stay again. Great value for money.

We booked & paid extra for a Junior Suite (which is - or nearly is- the best category of room in the hotel). The room we were allocated on arrival is called “Guadix”. It is a large room but the bedroom area is in complete darkness (see photos - taken during a very sunny day in July ) - need the electric lights on all of the time. The room has character & a nice bathroom. But the only windows have net curtains as they look onto an internal courtyard and only give a small amount of light in the entrance part of the room. I explained the issue to the hotel receptionist. It is July & the hotel is full. No other rooms available until tomorrow and we only booked a 2 night stay. We were advised that we should have asked for a room with good natural light ! I feel a bit disappointed after reading such good reviews of this hotel.

The first thing to know about this hotel is that access is not easy. It is located in the old town up some steep, narrow streets. If you are going to be 'coming and going' during the day it may not be ideal as the nearest parking is a good 250m away (and potentially further. We were there out of season and already free parking places were not easy to find). Having said all that, the hotel is delightful. Nicely decorated in the old Moorish style, the bathroom was well equipped, the rooms were cleaned every day and the bed was very comfortable. One minor complaint would be that our room was not particulalry well-lit, but I understand that other rooms do not have this problem. The owners, a young couple, were friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. Breakfast was largely 'continental' but always fresh and with some variety each day. If you are not car-dependent it is convenient for bars and restaurants on the Plaza de la Constitucion, in the surrounding streets and on Avenida Europa and also not too far to walk to the beach.

Right in the centre of town in the midst of the narrow, winding lanes of the old town, this hotel is a real gem. The Moroccan theme is very tasteful and particularly appropriate, given the town's history. The rooms are very generous, size-wise, and the building has so much more charisma than bland, modern chain hotels. There are numerous bars, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. The young couple who run the hotel could not be kinder or more attentive. Moreover, I thought the rates were very reasonable. I have stayed in many hotels in many countries, and I would confidently put this in my top 10!
