This is the second time in the past two months that we have eaten here. The first time as a couple and the second with friends Both times the staff have been attentive, knowledgeable about the food and how it is cooked and very obliging when needing to cater to dietary concerns. The food was flavoursome and tasty. You can taste the freshness of the salad and vegetables. There is a good choice on the menu but they also offer daily specials. There is an extensive drinks menu too with plenty of Gin’s to choose from. On this visit we sat in The Tipi which is a tall wigwam style building complete with a large patio heater and fairy lights. We all agreed that this played a part in a very enjoyable evening.
My husband and I stayed at the Royal for 3 nights and very much enjoyed the whole experience. All of the staff we encountered were welcoming, polite and had time to chat instead of just saying "hello". Nothing seemed too much trouble, from bringing drinks outside to getting fresh milk from the kitchen for our room (much nicer then little plastic pots of uht milk). We ate in the hotel for two nights and the Melville restaurant for a third night. The food on each evening was very tasty, hot and well-presented. The menu had plenty of choice to have different things at each meal and I think between us we sampled each variety of dessert, which were lovely and just the right size. The breakfasts were varied, with plenty of choice and very generous servings including kippers, eggs benedict and white pudding as well as black pudding and haggis. Our room was comfortable, nicely decorated and had a lovely bath as well as shower with very gorgeous lemongrass and ginger toiletries from the Highland soap company. We enjoyed sitting in the comfortable library/ lounge with a whisky after dinner. We'd definitely stay there again.…
An absolute horrendous and almost horrific experience at this hotel when stopping for a coffee and cake. Ordered up a couple of cups of coffee and two blueberry muffins whilst stopping off when visiting Comrie. It was bad enough the coffee’s were nothing more than luke warm at best, what happened next was unbelievable. I thankfully broke the muffin in half and OMG a sharp blade shaped piece of plastic was lodged inside the muffin!!! This was nothing short of shocking thank god it wasnt my 5 year old who took a bite and potentially could have done serious damage to her mouth. I complained to the receptionist and was advised there was no manager on site and have been promised a call. We’ll wait and see. Simply not acceptable for this to happen for which were in the first instance very overpriced coffee’s and could have ended in a hospital visit!!…
Stayed at the hotel for one night. Hotel staff very welcoming, room tastefully furnished and comfortable. The hotel public rooms had a smart but comfortable feel. Ate in the Melville, despite reserving a table it took half an hour for food order to be taken. Once order taken food arrived without delay. Pork belly was fantastic! Hotel/restaurant quite expensive, but enjoyed the experience and would stay again.
We recently visited the Melville for a family birthday meal, first of all the refurbishment that has under gone on the building is beautiful and very tastefully done. The staff were very friendly and polite, they sat us at our table with menus and took our drink order straight away. We all ordered something different, I had the lamb it was beautifully cooked and very tasty, the rest of the family all agreed that their meals were all just as tasty and cooked just how they liked it. We are visiting Scotland for a week’s holiday shortly and a visit to the Melville is on the top of our places to visit.
