Visited for lunch yesterday it was absolutely outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful ( lady who had worked there for some time and the guy who was shortly leaving, what s shame!) were fabulous. The food was the best meal we have tasted in a long time and great value for money! Cannot recommend highly enough ! Its a must visit and the views are stunning! We will visit again very soon thanks
Very welcoming staff, nothing too much trouble. Basic, clean and spacious room with tea/coffee and hairdryer available. Food: Breakfast was lovely, very well presented (full breakfast available, cerals and toast/jams) Evening meal: huge portions, great value and very tasty! I had the chicken burger and when I asked what the cheesecake was, chocolate battenberg....love that they made something different, so I went for it! As a person who dines out regularly with travel, and has a sweet tooth 😆 I would say this is the best cheesecake I've ever had! The explosion of different flavours was amazing!! Also 'diolch' to the young waitress you spotted I spoke Welsh!!
I have been staying with other colleagues, (usually a minimum of five of us each night for the last 4 weeks with one more week to go. The menu has been absolutely fantastic with amazing variety and lots of "specials" each week to try. Food always comes well presented and tastes great. (So good that we were not tempted to try elsewhere as it was so good. It was always a pleasure to return each evening after a long day at work. Service is second to none with a friendly staff and owner. Many thanks to Emma, Manager, Laura, Shannon, Jude, Luke, Julie, Sue, (and new staff, Emily and Paige), for their courteous and friendly service throughout a long stay. We finally met one of the chefs tonight, (not spomething that happens often as chefs tend to stay in the background - Stuart came to chat with us tonight to see if there was anything they could bring back for next week's meals that we particularly enjoyed - that was the hard bit as all meals were amazing! I would definitely recommend this hotel as a lovely place to stay with amazing food and great service - Mathew - you must be a good employer as your staff are all amazing! Thank you for the care taken to ensure we had some relaxation and respite so far from home.(Mari)…
I never write reviews but decided to write one after visiting the Stamford Gate for a meal. The food was absolutely perfect for me and my family completely enjoyed it too. I had three courses, even if I had to struggle, it was that good! Starting with the spicy chicken wings with blue cheese dip, they were succulent and a large size, very tasty and just spicy enough. The main course was fillet steak with peppercorn sauce. The sauce was delicious with some really tasty mushrooms on the side, really nice home made chips and the steak was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had something that I can’t remember the name of but it was kind of a version of a Bakewell tart with chantily cream, it was absolutely delicious. It seems to me that the Stamford has decided to compile a menu of what might be regarded as ‘pub classics’. Fish & chips, sausage & mash ..etc.. But this isn’t just pub food, if pub food was a car, this would be the Rolls Royce. Service was excellent, lovely place to eat and we waiting just long enough between courses. I will definitely be going back.…
We had a family meal here yesterday for my sister in laws 30th. We had pre ordered as it was a large group of around 30 people. Staff at the Stamford Gate were excellent and very attentive. Pre orders we’re all correct and came out in a timely manner. We asked for children’s lasagnes and the chef was able to accommodate this for us which was great as our girls demolished their meals even after the kids halloumi (this was great as a kids starter option too!). Our meals were lovely too and good portions and really good value. Thanks for making it a great experience, can’t wait to return and will definitely recommend.
We ended up here for four nights due to our original holiday being cancelled at the last minute. It’s probably the friendliest hotel I’ve stayed in. Staff are really welcoming and seem very happy in their roles. The food! Oh my goodness the food. Fantastic quality fabulous menu and reasonable prices too. We ate in every night. Enough said. The rooms are a bit tired but functional and the beds were extremely comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel as a base for exploring North Wales and Shropshire. You won’t be disappointed.
So it's in a lovely town and plenty of attractions and history around. Emma, the manager was friendly and professional. Room more than adequate for 3 of us. Only negatives about the actual room was that it was hot and water pressure poor. Emma told us that there was a party on but she would ask the DJ to keep it down. Well, all I can say is that we might aswell have tried to sleep in the actual party room....it went on until after midnight...it vibrated in our room and was the loudest I've ever experienced. If I'd not had a drink, I would have packed up and driven 2hrs back home. Then to top it all, the people above us were banging around until 5am. Ruined our whole weekend away and had to cut it short due to lack of sleep. Never in 30 years of travelling have I ever experienced noise to this level. As we went for breakfast, Emma asked how we'd slept so I told her "not good, due to noise". There was no response from her. Then at breakfast I asked for really well cooked bacon and sausage. It came out barely cooked. It was swimming in fat. The bacon was like gammon and chewy. My husband loved the scrambled egg but theirs was swimming in grease too. Really disappointed. Was looking forward to staying here.…
Just got back from a lovely family meal. It was their first night/day of opening since covid and they have done such a great job of setting everything up so it’s safe to eat indoors and out. We sat outside on the decking area as it was a nice sunny evening but It’s really spacious inside too. The staff were very good, efficient and friendly. There was also a good choice of food on the menu 3 of my family are vegetarian and said the food choice was great. The food here is amazing !! We had starters, main and a sweet. Everyone really enjoyed each one of their course’s. No complaints the whole family said how nice it was. My children and husband thought the steak was really tasty. It was really good value for money too and even better with them taking part in the government scheme of £10 off per person. We will definitely be back !! thanks …
We’ve been travelling past here for years and never gone in , what a mistake, we had a really nice meal, the log burner was on, very friendly staff a lovely end to our afternoon we will definitely be calling again
Good food and friendly staff, helped make the visit really good. We enjoyed the place so much we have booked in for an overnight stay later in November. I had fish and the rest had Sunday roast - all enjoyed - with a delightful dessert
