La Union looks beautiful from the outside and could be lovely inside too, but... the swimming pool was empty, the deckchairs on the upper level above the swimming pool were nice wooden slatted ones but no shade and no cushions. The breakfast was the nastiest...More
Nice area, but really run down. Clean, but if you get a street room the bar across the street will keep you up all night. Small town and you can walk everywhere. The sheets and towels are rough and carpeting clean but worn. The bar...More
Take the elevator just behind the reception desk on the ground floor. We had it all to ourselves on a hot sunny Saturday in January. Cheap good cocktails, perfect place to catch some rays but enjoy a nice sea breeze.
This place has lots of history. Should ask some of the historical buffs about the place. Still see pocket marks of the bullets. the onbe place who has power when the city goes dark.
I love the dinner in this hotel
We visited this hotel for a drink only at the patio. Though they did not offer other than drinks and pizza, the service was perfect, the drinks very good and the patio enchanting !
Well decorated, english speaking staff.

Just round the corner from the hotel is the main square- Parque et Plaza Jose Marti. Have a stroll around and go into Teatro Tomas Terry - you'll have to pay but I think it's worth it. It was built in the 19th century and is still used. Then there's the cathedral and other important buildings beautifully restored.
You can also walk to the harbour or take a horse drawn carriage. There may be small market stalls down the streets towards the harbour.
You can get a taxi to the Palacio de Valle, a beautiful restaurant and if you'd only like a drink, go up to the rooftop bar for fantastic views of the sea. The Palacio is a fine example of Moorish architecture and it's very beautiful.
That's probably enough.
Make sure you swim in the La Union hotel pool and have a cocktail from the poolside bar.
