This is a beautiful, quaint resort. If you're looking for a quieter, adult-only resort this is for you. It isn't directly on a beach, but the staff will drive you to one of the beaches in the area and even send you with a chair, towels and a cooler. They also will take you to other areas in Wailea. Ths is great if you want a great dinner off property and don't want to drive. The rooms are beautiful. We had a great view of the Pacific and could see whales spashing. The staff also was very friendly.

My husband and I just returned from a week at Hotel Wailea. The experience was wonderful. We wanted a quiet spot with a beautiful view and upscale amenities. These expectations were met! Normally we stay in Kaanapali but the Sheraton Maui was fully booked. After reading numerous reviews of Hotel Wailea and deciding we did not need to be right “ on the beach” we booked. The pros of the property:: our room was fabulous! 034. It was spacious and beautifully decorated. We loved the spacious lanai that looked out to the ocean with a large koi pond in between. We ate breakfast out there nearly every morning. We booked our trip through Costco Travel and had a $60 daily breakfast credit. We were invited one evening to “ The Tree House” located on the property for a cocktail party. This was a lot of fun… and such a gracious gesture for guests. The pool bartender’s name is James. He holds a “ mixology class” at the bar Saturday mornings. His banter is fun and engaging and he makes terrific mai Tai’s. Our first stop after checking into our room was to the pool bar. It was a great way to start our week. There are many choices for accommodations on Maui. We had decided to splurge on this trip. We needed to unwind following our son’s wedding and are coming up on our 55 th wedding anniversary. We loved this resort and will likely return. The cons are few to none. I gave the resort 4 stars instead of 5 because of the restaurants. The Birdcage Bar service is very slow. The main restaurant is more expensive than MaMa’s Fish House and the food was small portions. We both chose the steak for our main course and it was disappointing. I had a meringue dessert which was bland and my husband had cheesecake which was just average. With prices like this you expect an extraordinary experience. There was no one out front to greet us upon arrival which is not the way you want to start a 5 star hotel experience. We arrived at 2 pm. We were given an “ early check in” at the front desk which was great though and given leis which is a special touch. Thank you for a wonderful week!

My husband and I recently celebrated a milestone anniversary at Hotel Wailea. Our anniversary frequently falls during school spring break, and so we wanted a quiet, secluded, adults-only resort where we didn't have to fight for a seat at the pool. The hotel did not disappoint. It was quiet, luxurious and elegant in an understated way, and the service was outstanding. The employees really inhabit the aloha spirit, always ready with a friendly smile and a willingness to help. The suites are large and comfortable, with complimentary snacks and drinks. We had an upper floor suite, and we could see the ocean (and whales!) from our balcony. We did the complimentary outrigger canoeing excursion, the snorkeling excursion to Molokini, and the private beach picnic. Highly recommend all 3. The hotel valets are ready to take you anywhere at a moment's notice. We loved being driven to a beach (recommended by the concierge) and linked up when we were done. No need to hassle with parking or lugging our stuff. The recommendations by the concierge were spot-on. Also recommend the Restaurant for a special occasion meal, as well as the Birdcage for drinks. The resident lovebirds are so charming, too.

The Hotel Wailea was amazing from the first minute we arrived. After checking in we were given a tour of the property by Zane. He brought us to our room and made sure we were settled in. On our first evening we had a wonderful dinner at The Birdcage. This setting is one of the best on the island. A fantastic view of the sun setting into the ocean makes for a very romantic evening. The Birdcege manager, C'elsea and our server, Michaela insured we had a perfect evening. Our room was well appointed with a view of the ocean. This, combined with a very relaxing atmosphere made for the best vacation we've had.

My wife and I went to the Birdcage for our anniversary. We very much enjoyed the experience. The sunset view from this location is panoramic. Easily the best sunset view in Maui. The cocktails were wonderfully balanced and aesthetic, and the seafood was fresh and vibrant. Although we did not partake in wine (other than a celebratory glass of bubbles), the offerings of wine and sake looked to be well paired with the food offerings. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff was very presentable and well spoken. Quinn was our server, and was a pleasure to have as the host. Natalie, who delivered items, was very warm and engaging. I wish I could remember the names of the other team members, as everyone there seemed to work together to ensure good service. A special note to the manager, Jonathan, who worked seamlessly with his team and made us feel welcomed and appreciated. We will definitely go back!

We stayed here for 6 nights on the second leg of our trip (Honolulu, Maui, LA) and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a really great room that you can see the sea from. It felt secluded, was a good size, and the bathroom was excellent. The hotel is on a slope so you walk a short way uphill to the pool area. Not the biggest of pools but nice with really great bar service. Up some more steps is the main hotel foyer, central bar, and restaurant, all of which is open so you get a nice breeze flowing through. The bar was nice, it can get quite busy with non residents so you sometimes have to wait for a table. Coming from Europe I found it really odd that it closes so early (I think about 10pm), so if you go out for dinner you can't get a drink at the bar when you get back. The staff in the bar were lovely. The restaurant is great for breakfast with a good a la carte selection. The serving team were friendly and efficient. We found it lovely sitting with a coffee overlooking the greenery of the hotel ready to start the day. We did have dinner in the restaurant, which was nice, but we didn't think it was particularly special - nothing wrong with it, it just didn't feel special. The hotel is up a hill in its own grounds, which we really liked. They have a few Land Rover Defenders with drivers who are ready to drop you down at the beach at a moments notice, which we did every morning. Wailea have an area of loungers and parasols on the beach, it is a public beach but they maintain a small area. We loved the beach, there is no beach service but a two minute walk from the Wailea loungers and you can wonder into the Four Seasons who have a cabin serving drinks and snacks. Not being much of a beach dweller, I took a 15 minute walk each day along to the local shopping centre for a browse and to pick up some drinks and snacks. A pleasant walk but very hot! When you're ready to go back to the hotel, you just text reception who send a car down to pick you up. We found some nice restaurants in Wailea at the Fairmont, and the same efficient and friendly drivers drop you off and pick you up. Although one evening we were struggling to get someone to pick us up (we were probably a bit late) and one of the Fairmont drivers offered to take us back, which was a nice touch. We also took a taxi to Mama's Fish House one evening which was special. My wife and I are both smokers and Hawaii has strict smoking laws so, if you like a cigarette like us, you will find that you can't smoke on the beach, and at the Hotel Wailea you end up in a tiny, two seat, smoking area which is literally in the bushes by reception. I have to say the Fairmont and the Four Seasons cater for smokers better with large outdoor areas with benches which are far enough away so that you don't feel like you are bothering anyone. Overall, Hotel Wailea was lovely, the room especially, but the setting is nice, the pool and the ladies who serve from the pool bar, and all of the staff made it a great holiday. The area of Wailea itself feels like a big resort with golf course and big hotels, and the shopping centre I mentioned. Unfortunately, the last couple of nights of our trip coincided with the horrific wild fires that caused devastation on the other side of the island. We were unaffected but it affected so many people and we wish the thousands of locals that were, the very best and hope that the situation gets better soon.

Outstanding. Very different than the very large hotels in Wailea. Multiple 4 unit buildings set In landscaped surroundings. Relatively small hotel, but the heated pool area never crowded. Don’t ever need to get up at 6 am to reserve a lounge chair. Breakfast with excellent and unusual selections. Poolside drinks , snacks and lunch all day. Staff almost uniformly excellent , always concerned with your wellbeing and comfort. Not right on the beach, but bellmen will drive you anywhere in the Wailea area, including to other hotels for a meal, urgent care (where, unfortunately needed to go, and the care was outstanding), shops and the beaches, along with all the beach equipment you need.

What a great hotel! Our room was so comfortable - in every way. The bathroom was well stocked and had every amenity. The king bed was comfortable also. We had a very nice private lanai with a great view. While this hotel is not on the beach, that also makes it very private and quiet. They will take you to the beach & pick you up, but we rented a car and explored Maui. It upholds the aesthetic of all the Relais and Chateaus perfectly.
