This hostal was affordable and very comfortable. The delicious breakfast was included and changed everyday - a luxury in hostal aimed for backpackers. My room had a balcony where plenty of birds could be seen and heard at all hours, and the sunset was stunning....More

Sounds like a nice place. Is it easy to arrange transportation from Quito and back, and how much is a taxi for two people? Also, do you need guides and transportation for birding in the park? Thanks. We're thinking of going July 22-25 this year

I don't know the cost of a taxi, but the bus was comfortable enough and, from what I recall, not terribly loaded with passengers either.
Finally, when I stayed at Bio Hostal, I walked from there into the cloud forest without difficulty - it's quite close and the walk is enjoyable in the early morning (more bird life). I saw plenty of toucans and other sorts of birds without reliance on a guide.
