If you are interested in indigenous cultures, medicinal plants, and/or environmental preservation, this trip is for you. The Huaorani people have lived for thousands of years in the Western Ecuadorian rainforest. This tour allowed me to visit the people & learn about their lifestyle. I saw kind, attentive, gentle parenting. I met people who are finely attuned to their environment....

We had an amazing guide named Louis. Make sure you ask for him before you start your trip. The place is in the middle of the jungle in a very remote area. Do NOT expect any real world comforts. Its quite rough but quite enjoyable at the same time. Adventure junkies will be disappointed as its all very laid back....

I am going to write this not so much as a review as as a highly detailed description of what you are going to encounter, as we felt a little apprehensive all the way through and none of the descriptions really did it for us. Firstly, we were told that our baggage limit was 10lb/5Kg for an eight day trip....

The visit at Ecolodge was the highlight of my trip to South America! The guides are the best and the huaoranis are so friendly. I especially enjoyed the way we got "educated" in the complexity of the clash between huaorani people, civilication, education and worst of all - the olie industry. It's most definely a visit worth!!

All I can say is WOW! Never in a million years did I imagine myself in the Amazon learning from a primitive culture. This was a last minute trip as I had a few days in Quito before starting my teaching job on the Galapagos Islands. Upon being picked up at my hotel, Roberto our guide made me feel welcomed...

We wanted to not fly so our journey was super intense.. 2 hour drive from coca, and then 6 hours in a narrow , motorized canoe up river , with a quick stop for bathroom and snack and the very very rustic camp site we would stay in on our last night. We arrived in one piece and unpacked in...

Just back from the lodge where we (Jim, Lynda and Charlotte) had the most amazing time. Walking jungle trails at night, riding in dugout canoes to the sound only of the wildlife, seeing the giant sabre trees, more birds than I can describe and the constant smiles of our Hourani hosts. Unbelievable food. Fantastic time and thanks to our guides...

I visited the lodge at the end of March and absolutely loved it! First, I was impressed with what a great job the travel agency did with communication before the trip. They were happy to answer my questions promptly by email and phone. Javier, the English-speaking guide who was with us for the entire trip (to and from Quito) was...

Average is perhaps not the right way to describe this as it is a unique experience and In general we enjoyed this trip - but as noted by other reviewers there are some things that potential travellers should be aware of. Accommodations are basic but comfortable - a few issues with availability of water and everything is run from solar...

Dear Guest, We are always sad when something we do affects the extraordinary cultural journey with the Huaorani in the Amazon headwaters. We fully agree with you, this is no average experience but a unique oppoprtunity to visit the Huaorani Eco Warriors. We are thankful to all of our guests who come, enjoy, learn and get involved with this important...

Wow what a great experience this was! Completely back to basics. It started taking a six man plane (including pilot) to the amazon. Just to confirm - weight limit is restricted so if you are backpacking you need to leave your bigger backpacks behind, either at your hotel or the tour operators office. The accommodation is relatively basic compared to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Stay in an eco-lodge situated at the headwaters of the Amazon and run by the Huaorani, one of the most isolated ethnic groups on earth: first contacted by the outside world only 55 years ago, they speak a language that is unrelated to any other. You’ll learn to use a blowgun, hear their leader relate the tribe’s fight against oil exploration, and take a two-day meander down the Shiripuno River in kayaks, watching for tropical birds and monkeys.Highly Commended -The Virgin Holidays Responsible Travel Award 2009 and 2010Best Company in Innovation 2010 - LATATrips of a Lifetime award by Travel & Leisure 2010Best Sustainable Tourism Project 2008 and 2009 - LATABest Adventure Travel Companies on Earth by National Geographic 2009 ... more   less

“All the rooms are good rooms, and are assigned before you arrive. There are only 5 lodges, with the first and fifth a bit more apart from the middle ones. The 5th one is nearest the dining lodge and hammock hut.”

“We had cabin 4, which was fine. The only other guests there had lodge 5, which they charmingly referred to as 'le cabin d'amour'. It was closer to the river and the trees. They had some interesting evening guests which the staff helped guide on their way. Just remember to check your shoes, shake your clothes and check your bed. Or use another cabin,”
