We were conditioned to expect crowded, communal accommodations in backpackers' facilities but this was disappointing: rooms were small and dirty, communal areas were over-crowded and messy, and staff were indifferent. The communal cooking area we were assigned was taken over by a Chinese tour group so we had to rush our meal preparation and supper. The lounge areas were overcrowded...

Hi Ken M, Thank you for taking the time to review Chateau Backpacker & Motels. I am sorry to hear that you didnt have an enjoyable stay. Our communal areas are cleaned twice a day but will look into monitoring them better to ensure that they are maintained to our high standard throughout the day. I Know that the kitchen...

I love Chateau. All the little nifty touches make a difference. For instance, the fact that every single bed in the bunk has its own charging point, its own light and its own curtain means you can sleep as early or as late as you wish. Love the free evening soup and free breakfast provided, and I saw in the...

Very nice place, we had our own room for an entirely reasonable rate. And it was welcomed for the opportunity to use a hot pool! The Hot Pool was not the cleanest and the shower flooded, which was not ideal, but we greatly valued the use of laundry, the wifi, the private room, and the kitchy feel of the place!

At Chateau, I was welcomed very kindly by the staff. The backpackers provides soup in the evening and waffles for breakfast, as well as a spa, bonfire and fantastic rooms. I met a great group people there on my travels and will never forget the fun we had just at the backpackers. The staff are very knowledgable about the area...

Stayed here with a group touring around NZ. Unfortunately the accommodation normally used was booked up, so we ended up here in a room for 6. The beds themselves were ok and the room was spacious, but things were lacking. For example, there was no soap in the bathroom - 6 people in a room, using the bathroom and no...

We booked at the last-minute. The room was tidy and clean. The tv seemed to have a sound timing problem. The shower was surprising good. Great pillows. Great for a one night stay but would not stay longer.

Right in the centre of Fox Glacier (although, it would be difficult not to be!), with all the amenities you hope for during your stay. The free Wifi is an added bonus, which it great! Staff were nice enough, and the place was clean.

Stayed one night in room 19 right above the reception on the 1st floor, had to carry my bag up and down a flight of stairs. Checkin and checkout were quick and friendly. The Motel is right next to the YHA where the Intercity bus stops so its very convenient. Its a tiny town, various walking trails nearby. When the...
