This is a hard review to write, because as B&B's go - this was a fairly good one. The service was great and the afternoon tea was a delight and the breakfast was good. Our room did leave something to be desired - it was quite dark (we were unable to read the paper in the room), the air conditioning...

Just walking up the front steps of this former ante bellum mansion, you know you are in for a treat. The common rooms are tastefully appointed in period style. The inn keepers are welcoming and most helpful. Our room, the Cotton Merchant, was spacious and stunning. And we took advantage of the cozy wrap around porch overlooking the beautiful garden...

The reception we received on arrival was warm and welcoming. The hotel was stylishly furnished and fitted perfectly with the age and style of the building. It felt like we were stepping onto one of the grand plantation houses we had spent time visiting. It was stylish and charming. The room was large stylishly decorated and spotlessly clean, a pure...

We arrived on a very stormy afternoon. Our room was quickly ready and we were made to feel right at home by the staff. Our room was in the main house, was clean and spacious, and very comfortable, and the front desk staff gave great recommendations on where to eat. Happy Hour was fun and the snacks were delicious. Breakfast...

We spent just the one night at the 1842 inn. The reception was great and we were offered an upgrade into the main house at no cost which was great. The room was lovely and the house authentically furnished with an interesting history. Pre-dinner complimentary snacks and a cash bar in the living room was a lovely way to start...

I had a very pleasant stay at the 1842 Inn. Because everyone's taste is different and most reviews are very positive, I will only give my observations. 1. Historic old home with all the "old home quirks." Keep this in mind when staying here. 2. Beds are very soft. Linens are clean, crisp, and fresh. 3. Because this is an...

We had rather a mixed experience staying at this B&B. It was really more of a small hotel with 19 rooms and the impression given was that of a less intimate atmosphere than with other inns. Certainly the welcome as we arrived was rather brusque with the member of staff charged with receiving us beckoning me with a curled finger...

We have family in the area and have spend a number of Christmas eves in this property and frankly its a semi tradition when visiting at that time of the year...The fireplace and the bed are two of the best features ...coming into a dark room with antique fixture to a warm fire and a fluffy old time bed is...

This was truly a gem of any Bed & Breakfast we've visited. Great hospitality, wonderful snack/drinks, & a delicious breakfast, out in the courtyard! I would highly recommend the 1842 Inn to any one, especially those who seek history1

We needed one day for a business transaction. Accommodations were so quaint, we arrived late on a foggy evening. We were welcomed to warm southern hospitality! A fire in the fireplace warmed us along with a glass of wine. We had breakfast delivered to our suite, served piping hot and fresh baked! When our business associate arrived we were notified...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 1842 Inn blends the amenities of a grand hotel and the ambiance of a country inn. The guest rooms and public areas of the inn dwell within a Greek Revival antebellum house and an adjoining Victorian house that share a quaint courtyard and gardens. The nineteen guest rooms, parlors, and library are tastefully designed with fine English antiques and paintings, oriental carpets, tapestries and elaborate draperies. ... more   less
