Nestled in a picturesque location, The Estes Park Resort has been lauded for its breathtaking views and cozy rooms featuring fireplaces, but some guests have been disappointed by the lack of certain amenities and restricted access during events. While the romantic atmosphere is accentuated by the allure of in-room fireplaces and tubs, noise and maintenance issues have occasionally detracted from the experience.
The staff's service receives a mix of praise and criticism, with some guests finding them friendly and others unresponsive. Additionally, concerns over value for money and the need for renovations are echoed by numerous travelers who find the rooms charming yet outdated and sometimes noisy.

Detailed Reviews
First the positive things. The location of the resort was perfect - not too close to town, but close enough. And the lake setting was beautiful! The front desk staff was helpful on arrival after a full day of driving in from Texas. That was much appreciated. The happy hour menu was good (we had the roasted brussel sprouts). The room has a microwave and refrigerator, which was nice.
Now for the "improvement" opportunities. For the price we paid for this "luxury" resort, we expected so much more.
Our room overlooked the parking lot and entrance to the hotel. There was no privacy and no view whatsoever. Parking was limited due to the multiple events that were occurring.
The furnishings were in need of an update (the couch was torn and stained). The bathroom sink was actually not in the bathroom but in the bedroom (AWKWARD), and the mushy pillows were uncomfortable.
The elevator was out of service most of the time we were there. Luckily we were on the main floor and didn't need to use it.
Due to "Covid restrictions", the staff is not allowed to enter your room so don't expect a daily cleaning, fresh linens or a coffee refill - you have to go to the front desk to request towels, coffee, etc. It would be nice if they had informed us of this at check-in. We finally asked.
Like most other hospitality, they are short of staff. We asked to sit outside to have cocktails at the restaurant but were told they didn't have enough servers and so we had to sit inside.
On checkout, the front desk staff was a bit rude. I had to ask for a print out of the charges to confirm they were accurate. She was just ready for us to be on our way.
Overall, a big disappointment for the price. We will stay elsewhere on our next trip to Estes.

The room was comfortable, and the view was fantastic. Housekeeping didn't show up in the morning after our first night as we requested. We asked for them to show up at the front desk, as instructed, and said any time in the morning was fine. When we returned to our room in late afternoon, they hadn't come. Someone did eventually come by and changed towels/gave us some extra toilet paper while we were in the room. My main complaint was the Dunraven restaurant/room service. The prices were NOT reflected in the quality of food. We had room service breakfast one day (>$50 for two people's simple breakfasts - my husband ordered biscuits and gravy, I had 2 pancakes and eggs + an OJ), and the eggs were watery, the biscuits/gravy dry. We tried eating at the restaurant the next evening. Ordered the mushrooms as an appetizer - they were flavorless and watery. I ordered the tortelloni and husband ordered the fettuccine. Both dishes were alright, though enormous (and the to-go boxes they give you are FOIL! Which you cannot microwave!), but nothing special for their price tags. In short: the room was great, view was gorgeous, the people at the front desk were very friendly, and the location was convenient, but definitely would not recommend the food. Many better places to eat in town.

The hotel itself was incredible we had an amazing time we loved our room if we visit again we want to request this specific room. When we needed plates they promptly brought them to us to our room. The restaurant Dunraven…we’ll the food was great, everyone else other than our waitress was so kind. Our waitress she had short blonde hair, she didn’t give us her name so not sure what her name was. She was constantly trying to pick up our plates even though we were still eating. It was multiple times, it made us feel very rushed. To top it off it was my husband birthday so honestly it ruined his birthday dinner. At the end we gave her our card to pay. Then she comes and says “do you have another card this was declined” we were confused we did a travel notification with our card. When we called our bank on the reason they said it was processed incorrectly if she would have tried to run it again properly it would have been approved. It was so odd to me she didn’t just try it a second time at least. Not sure if we were taking to long in the table for her, we were in the booth. Or she just didn’t want to be there. We also witnessed her giving the check to the wrong table, she was either in a rush or very distracted or maybe a racial thing? It’s sad because our experience could have been amazing if it wasn’t for her. We actually live 40 min away and visit Estes Park often. Still contemplating if we should return but have the inconvenience of leaving to get food. Just bummed that my husband remembers that experience.

Our family of four stayed here for two of the four nights we were in Estes Park. Our rate for a double bed, first floor, lake view room was $349 plus taxes/fees. I’m really glad we weren’t able to book a second or third floor room. My kids (13 yo & 9 yo) loved being able to walk out our room and play on the clean turf while looking out onto the lake. Note: The first floor is not ground level. It’s actually halfway below ground but you can climb out of the patio area onto ground level. The room itself was outdated and didn’t appear clean. The bathroom was the worst. The tub and shower were stained and just gross. Water pressure and temperature was great though. The hotel restaurant serves a delicious and reasonably priced breakfast. The Italian food for dinner is awful and way overpriced for the quality. The baked ziti was almost inedible as it was way over baked and the pasta tasted odd, maybe gluten free. Overall, this room was definitely not worth the price. No even close. We’re now in a cute lodge on the river not too far from the Estes Resort. It’s half the price and soooo much cleaner and nicer.

We stayed here 3 nights during our visit to RMNP. The location is nice (on the lake and next to the marina) and the resort itself is pretty and well maintained. You can actually walk from the resort into town using the trail around the lake if you want. It was a nice walk. I was not impressed with our lake view, as you are looking out at a bunch of buildings across the lake as well as the mountains. It is not that pretty. If you get a room on the same side as the restaurant, then you actually do have a very pretty view. My main complaint is that I was not informed at any point before my stay that the workout room, sauna, and rec room would not be available during our stay. I booked almost a month before our stay and there was nothing on the website saying these amenities would not be available during our stay. The cost of the room was not discounted at all (in fact, we paid a premium for staying at this resort and had fewer amenities than we would have had at all of the much cheaper resorts). We should have been told about these things not being available before we arrived. I looked at the website after we checked in and noticed the very vague banner at the top of the webpage that said they were improving the resort. It still didn't mention anything that was closed. I don't feel that is an honest way of doing business. Again, we paid a premium for staying there and received far less than a premium experience. Also, the bathroom sink is in the main room and is very inconvenient. We had to fix food using the same counter space as our toiletries. If anyone went to the bathroom at night, they had to use the sink in the main room to wash their hands, waking others up. In my opinion, the beds are way too soft and it made my back hurt. Others may not find it uncomfortable, but I did. The pillows are also way too big. My husband and I had a hard time sleeping and my neck was sore each morning. We also did not eat at the restaurant at the resort because the prices were way too high for our family. If we hadn't paid such high prices for the room, then the amenities not being available probably would not have bothered me so much. But when you pay close to $400 a night for a 2Q room that has a bathroom sink next to the bed, offers no amenities, and the ony food option is a very expensive restaurant, you don't feel like you got your money's worth.

More like a state park than a resort, for $350/night for a lake view room (lower level/basement) we expected more services and much nicer accommodations. There was housekeeping only every 7 days, we had to put our trash outside our door when we needed it emptied, the pool was closed, the room was dated, windows and patio to our lake view were so dirty we had to call front desk to send housekeeping, the air conditioner was not efficient and air flow was restricted because of a filthy filter which my husband removed and left out for maintenance, the restaurant was mediocre at best, service was slow, the marina cancelled our reservations for a boat because the motor broke snd they couldn’t reschedule until after we were due to depart.
We love Estes Park but there are much many new locations and likely much better places to stay. This lodge sits on Lake Estes and the location is likely the reason it costs so much, the view is lovely but this is NOT a resort.

We stayed here during our elopement in Estes. The room was clean and the location is great, but other than that we were disappointed by our stay.
The sauna and arcade were both closed and there were no kayak rentals available. Since there is no regular cleaning service, we had to request more coffee each day for our room which for the price was undesirable. We were told we could call down to have it delivered but each time I called the front desk no one answered. The “fire pit” area was also littered with empty bottles and trash.
Finally, there was a wedding party on our last night and there was a room of unattended children left in the room next door. They were screaming and kept pulling on the conjoining door. When I called down to the front desk nobody answered. They settled down, but not the kind of relaxation we were looking for…why would you put a family next to a newlywed couple

we had made a reservation a month ahead for a room with two twin beds and a balcony with a lake view for which we spent extra money. it was a special anniversary/birthday treat. the room we gt was "garden level." the very small cement patio was sunken so the we had to sit up high on bar stool height chairs and then we could out over the rocks trough a metal railing and around the back of a large sign to see the edge of the lake. also, there was only one twin bed. When I complained to the desk clerk, she said a reservation was only a request and not to expect exactly what we asked for. hummm! we shortened our stay.

The hotel staff were friendly, and the check-in and check-out process were quick. Due to COVID, the restaurant and room service had limited menu and hours. We felt safe staying at the hotel since it wasn't crowded and house keeping was only done after we checked out. We booked a King bed room facing Lake Estes and the Rocky Mountains - the view was incredible and the room was clean. We will definitely be back! I am sure that the service and options will be much better once the hotel is back in full operations. I would still highly recommend people to visit this establishment if you are wanting to do a weekend trip and still stay safe and have some social distancing. Unlike Breckenridge, Estes Park is a great place to visit while avoiding the crowds.

Understanding the location and the tourist up charge, this hotel is still greatly overpriced. The rooms and facilities are too outdated for the hefty price they demand. Furthermore, the $300 paid a night does not come with breakfast. One particular front desk staff member was extremely rude and treated guests as an interruption. This hotel is taking advantage of tourists and visitors should look elsewhere.
