The whole idea of staying in an old converted canning factory with an ocean view is charming. However, several aspects were disappointing. The room was just not very clean. The corners, baseboards, top of radiators and other noticeable surfaces were filthy. While the sheets were fresh, the bedspread had lipstick ( guessing) stains as did the curtains. The walls are paper thin. We heard every conversation between our neighbors and we know more about them than we care to. The bathroom fans sound like a turbo engine and of course, you hear your neighbor’s as well. The staff in the restaurant was friendly and their food was pretty good also. We checked out early with no charge if giving 24 hour notice. Pay attention too - there are no tv’s or even radios in guest rooms. Lubec has a lot to offer if u like the outdoors, but it gets dark early and the Inn on the Wharf is not the place to be.

Open during the Fryeburg fair only!! This is a great historical old time kitchen, offering cooking demonstrations and free samples. Lovely warm environment with a wood cookstove operating. Free samples upon availability. Samplings may include biscuits, baked beans, fudge, apple crisp... Here's an insider tip, they have a great little cookbook which is not on display. It's very low cost, $5, last time I checked. My family has enjoyed the recipes for decades. You must ask for it.

We stayed in the Seagull two bedroom suite on the wharf. It reeked of something awful and the smell came home with us on our clothes. The windows were covered in cobwebs. The bathroom supplies were meager - not enough toilet paper - shampoo and conditioner available in only one bathroom. The supply issue was corrected when we brought it to their attention. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms were clean but the dishwasher had not been emptied. Bathroom layout is cramped and awkward. The smell was overwhelming and permeated all the spaces, even the closets, and cancelled out any possible enjoyment of the spacious accommodation. Not sure of the source of the smell because the rooms did look clean. Luckily, we spent most of our time sightseeing but that made the gross smell only worse when we returned. Meals were average, conveniently next door, prices seemed a bit high for what you get. The protected parking was inside a barn where the pigeons roosted. That too was smelly. We stayed in a unit up on the hill last November 2021 and there was no problem with odors. But we could hear our neighbors above us.

Our room opened up to a deck facing the water, it was lovely having that view during our stay, which was 2 nights. This is not a full service Inn, there is a group use room/w/kitchen as you enter the residence, and rooms are off of that...Note that the walls are paper thin, so we spoke in low voices, and kept the tv volume down. Rooms are not serviced daily, but that was not a problem for us, we were out sight-seeing during the day, and came back for evenings. That said, we loved that the restaurant is attached, and the food is good, the wait staff very good, and courteous. If you're looking for fancy, don't look here, but not expecting that in a fishing community, we enjoyed our stay there, 2 nights.

I am a stickler for a clean room. Our room was not. (I think it was Harbor View)The shower floor was dirty, dust and dirt under the bed (my chapstick rolled under the bed skirt, it was pretty disgusting) baseboards filthy. A lot of the rooms had private decks, but outside our harbor view window, we had a very close view of four chairs on a deck that was for all inn guests. So often, if we wanted to look out to the view, we looked at people, and they could look in at us. It was strange. The restaurant attached to the inn, was crowded, and understaffed, making the wait for dinner over an hour. I understand the times and how almost all places are understaffed as the season closes, but it was disappointing. The front desk staff was wonderful and very helpful about all our needs.

Our family had planned to visit the restaurant part of the Inn. One member of our family is disabled and in a wheelchair, so we reserved the handicapped spot for 5 pm. There is only ONE that we could use! They were rude when we made the reservation. But we decided to let that go. We got there right on time, but the spot was taken, and there was no other way for us to park the van with the ramp. So much for reservations and wheelchair access! We left and ate elsewhere.

We’ve traveled through downeast Maine several times but this was the first time we actually stayed in Lubec. We loved this unique lodging. Our 2 night stay was down at the far end of the main building with access by a big yellow tank. Our “suite” consisted of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room & a private deck with an absolutely killer view. The sunrises & sunsets were incredible over the water & the star gazing was stellar. Our hosts were so kind & accommodating, even bringing us a TV where we caught up on Virgin River. We slept in the water side bedroom waking up to those views after sleeping on one of the most comfortable mattresses ever. And the restaurant that is attached to the other end of the main building was a quick & easy walk down the little wooden boardwalk. Food was simple & delicious & the staff was friendly & welcoming. Make sure you ring the bell upon leaving to compliment their chef if so desired (we did it each time). You can even eat out on the small deck, weather permitting. This place is not a 5 star resort but is worthy of 5 stars for what it is… comfortable, relaxing & with beautiful views.

We stayed in Cliffside, one of the suites that was not attached to the main part of the inn. When I made the reservation, I knew it was a bit of a stretch for us, as we don't often treat ourselves to suites at this price. But hands down, I don't regret a penny spent! The view was beyond the beyond. The place itself was newly remodeled (or perhaps it was recently built). All of the furnishings and appliances were new and in great shape. It was immaculate and spacious. Watching the sunset from the deck over the ocean is a memory that will stay with me for a long time! If in Lubec again, I will be sure to reserve the same suite at The Inn on the Wharf!

We stayed there for just two nights and it was mostly an enjoyable visit. Our room was on the lower level of one of the three detached buildings just up the road from the main building. We had a shared balcony with the other room on our level. The room was a bit small and cramped. It had a small refrigerator and microwave on the left as you walked in and a real coffee maker on a small table on the right- a major plus. We brought our own DD coffee. Along the front wall was a small table with 2 chairs and a smallish tv mounted right above it. The TV only could pick up a few local channels with the other ones being blocked. The wifi for our building did not work so we had to steal wifi from another building. The bathroom was in the back portion of the room and was nice and roomy. What was unique is that the king sized bed faced the front of the room with the slider to the balcony in full view. Nothing was better than to awake in the morning and open the shades to see the harbor as the sun came up. Simply the best experience. There wasn’t and screen on our slider so we basically had to keep it closed. And there isn’t any fan or air conditioner to mask out any noise. The people above us sounded like a heard of buffaloes. But, I could not hear any noise from the people next to us. And having a shared balcony wasn’t a bad thing. Both couples we met - one from Massachusetts and one from Connecticut - we’re great to get to know. People from New England just know when to chat and when to not. The room was basically clean but looked like it could use a scrubbing and touched up with paint. But with all the petty pluses and minuses, it’s the view and the charm of harbor that made our stay most enjoyable. The image of the bay will thankfully always stay with me. You can’t ask for anything better. And it was wonderfully quite there. It was nice to have a restaurant in the hotel building since there is very little else to choose from in Lubec. The service was a bit slow and the food was OK but you just feel for how hard they worked and how nice the wait staff was. But like I’ve said - with a few short comings, staying here was memorable and lovely experience. We hope to come back.

Lovely surprise with a beautiful view of ocean, boats, and relaxing setting listening to the waves lapping the rocks. Watch the many birds flying and diving. Delicious food at the Inn and beautiful, clean, comfortable rooms.
