We were a small group of three women 2 of whom own their own dude ranches. We were so happy with the riding and the friendly atmosphere at the ranch. The views on the lunch ride and all day ride are amazing we did not know the desert had so much to offer. Horses are well cared for and very... More

This was my first dude ranch experience. We went with extended family ranging from grandparents to grandkids. Everyone had a great time and wants to do it again. Sonoran desert: The locale exceeded my expectations and was an added bonus. I'd never visted this part of the country. I learned that as deserts to, the Sonora is a vibrant place... More

Plodding, regimented, nose-to-tail rides administered by self-important wranglers. The rooms and the food are OK but not up to the standard of other ranches. Some great views from the mountain ridges but, on the whole, not much fun.

Looking forward to another Elkhorn Ranch visit with my 9 year old daughter and my mother! I have been coming to Elkhorn ever since I was a child. It's where I learned to ride horses. The ranch really is a home away from home. It is the ideal place to bring your family for outdoor recreation in a beautifully remote... More

This is a revisit, so a somewhat shorter review. For my more in-depth commentary, see my December 2014 TripAdvisor review here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60950-d1900844-r244692087-Elkhorn_Ranch-Tucson_Arizona.html This was our second week-long stay at Elkhorn. We made our first trip in December 2014, and liked the ranch enough that we wanted to return. Every minute of our February 2016 visit lived up to the expectations... More

After spending a week painting the landscape of Elkhorn Ranch, I was amazed by the multitude of possible compositions to explore. Each time of day offered something different. From my cabin porch I could watch the early, soft morning light on the surrounding mountains as long shadows began to stretch and redesign the view. Mid day painting excursions included desert... Just back from another great week of unplugged bliss, riding horses and simply lolling about at Elkhorn Ranch. My grandparents came every spring from the 1950s up through the '70s and they got my brother & me hooked when we were kids. And I now crave being there so much that I've been coming almost every year for the better... More

This is my family's favorite vacation -- both restful and adventurous, comfortable but not pretentious or fussy, great food, friendly family owned atmosphere but very professional and well managed, beautiful scenery, interesting plants and animals -- it's the perfect escape from our normal hectic 'city' lifestyle. And, you don't have to be a horse owner or experienced rider, the guides... More

Thank you Charley and Mary and the entire crew at Elkhorn for an absolutely wonderful week over spring break. The food, the wranglers, the rides, the hikes, and everything else was fantastic. For anyone (family or singles or couples) wanting to get away from the rat race, getting "off grid" at Elkhorn and enjoying the beauty of the desert and... More

Tucked in between two mountains, just off a high plaine, in the beautiful Southwest Arizona country-side is Elkhorn Ranch. Elkhorn is family run and hosts a limited number of guests; accordingly, staff attention is friendly and superb. The guests also get to know each other and many are repeaters. The ranch property is PEACEFUL and the stars at night amazing.... More

“A computer room has wifi, as well as a computer for guests. The skies are not light-polluted, so the star-gazing is fabulous. The birding opportunities are also very good. The ranch's extensive and varied library is also a good resource.”
