This is a beautiful hotel! The employees are very helpful and friendly. However, the restaurants are not fully open. When we arrived Sunday, we had one option for supper. We put our name on the list and it took about 25 min. The Red Sage is a nice restaurant, and the food was good. However, if you don't want an expensive dinner, you have to go somewhere else. This was the only option. We were told the next day we would have to eat at the deli for lunch. It is in the casino. The casino lacked life due to the closures. The tables have thick plastic panels you sit in that separate you from each other and the dealer. You must wear a mask. All this makes it very difficult to hear what is being said. There were two bars open for drinks only when we arrived. Quickly that became one. Nice there is no smoking but we decided to head home rather than stay two nights. The ceilings in the casino are low so I cannot imagine how bad it would be if smoking was allowed. The closure of the hotel restaurants and fact that they are outside of Santa Fe made it not as enjoyable at this time. Beautiful clean hotel if just going for that. Once again, scout out other food options if want something cheaper and quick.

Hotel's Favourite
After almost 2 years of no vacation-- mostly due to the pandemic -- I HAD to get away, so I booked 3 nights at Buffalo Thunder, just for myself. I live in Taos and I'm a Hilton Honors member, so I chose BT because I could drive to it instead of fly (flights are expensive and packed these days because of people like me, jonesing for a trip), because it was so different from my funky hometown, and because I could opt for 2x Hilton Honors points. After I booked my trip, I read the reviews here on Trip Advisor -- "choose any place but this," "We went to Denny's instead," "Like a monkey screwing a football (WTF???)," "Air conditioning never got above 75," "Chairs on the balcony weren't made for adult (butts)." Well, I just got home after spending 3 WONDERFUL nights at Buffalo Thunder, and I can tell you, without reservation, that I had a GREAT time. Here's why: Deluxe King Suite: My room was PERFECT!!!!! Yep, I spent a chunk of money on it, because I wanted a really nice room. I specifically chose a room with a balcony, fireplace and soaking tub. What I GOT was a room with 2 fireplaces (one in the living room and one in the bedroom, gas-lit, great for ambience but didn't affect the temperature of the room), TWO balconies, and a deep deep tub for fantastically long soaks in my favorite soothing bubble bath. Aaaaahhhhh. The room was impeccable -- no broken hooks, no faulty electrical system, the A/C was just right -- it was spotless and gorgeous. Spend a little more and get a room on the 5th floor. But don't get room 5127, because it tastes like medicine and because I want that room all to myself for future stays. I enjoyed my balconies SO MUCH -- I made a point to be out there at 8pm, because the sunset was approaching, and the starlings were flying around, hoping for treats from guests. The chairs on the balcony fit the average butt, FYI -- I brought a tape measure, and they're 17.5" across, which was sufficient for my larger-than-I'd-like butt. I also entertained friends from Santa Fe on my balcony on my first night, and neither complained that the balcony chairs were too small for their butts, so. Butt case closed. The Staff: Looky here, out-of-towners: New Mexico takes COVID seriously. We ENJOY being alive, we don't have any political ego invested in this futile "game" -- and our Pueblo people HAVE to protect their own. The truth is that the staff was great, they were all gracious and uber-efficient. That was true at the front desk, at the casino, at the spa and at the restaurants. Understand that we're also experiencing a labor shortage, so the staff members that are reporting to work are picking up the slack of those who are choosing to stay home, for whatever reason -- so your restaurant server may be bussing her own tables and being her own bartender, barback and hostess. Nope, not all restaurants are open all day, or at all, right now -- though it looks like everything is open on weekends. While I ate a LOT during the day, I may have lost some weight, because I forgot to stock snacks in my room. I suspect this'll change after July 1st, but maybe not, since the Pueblo decides what the COVID rules are, and the labor shortage dictates how much service can be provided. I don't have an issue with wearing a mask. If you do, stay someplace else. Go to one of the states where nobody cares and people are dying. Have fun! Get a massage at the spa with Kathryn -- WOW!!!! Have a piping hot steak chimichanga with green chile at Iguana Cafe -- mmmmm!!! Go to the Red Sage and order the Azul Peligroso Margarita, all huckleberry-y and jalapeno-infused -- nom nom nom. Swim in the beautiful COLD pool at 9pm, hike the Butterfly Trail in the morning and meet dragonflies all the while! Win $800.32 at the casino like I did! I thought about never leaving, but decided I didn't wanna be the front-page news in the Santa Fe New Mexican. My trip was wonderful, and I just can't wait to go back, mask or no mask. I love Buffalo Thunder.

Overall the cleanliness is good the staff is good the food is good when you can get the food that is. Because the restaurant is closed two days out of the week their Buffay is closed they only have one lunch option at their café and the deli in the casino has limited options as well however the atmosphere is friendly clean and welcoming and the rooms are very nice updated and comfortable once Covid is over everything goes back to normal I would give it five stars

I've been reading reviews here for about a year and wasn't sure if we would stay here since there were several negative comments. I'm glad we ignored them and stayed here anyway! We had a 1 night stay in late August and wished we had more time at the resort. It is large with a casino and several restaurants that are at different stages of opening with sometimes limited hours. At check in they disclosed this and gave us a sheet that told us what was open and what was not and it listed several nearby restaurants that we used for dinner dining. We had researched the hotel before booking so we knew that some places in the hotel would be closed or limited. As a Hilton Diamond we received a room upgrade with a balcony and fireplace and the breakfast benefit which provided a credit to dine in the morning at the excellent Iguana Cantina restaurant (menu attached). Prices were very inexpensive for a full service resort hotel and the food was excellent. We hope to visit again and stay longer if we are in the Santa Fe area.
