My wife and I stayed at this historic hotel for three (3) nights. The lobby was lovely but very sparsely furnished. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was impossible as their lot had only a few spaces, so we had to park across the street in a public lot which was often full. The hotel did reimburse us for the parking, which we appreciated. The room was very nice and comfortable. Their bar, part of the famous restaurant attached to the hotel, was nice although noisy, and the food was excellent. In fact we decided to return and have dinner there on our last night. That's when the horror began. After our appetizers, my wife, who had nothing alcoholic to drink, became incoherent, slumped to the side, lost consciousness, threw up, and slid onto the floor. I tried to resussitate her but it didn't work. The hotel finally called the paramedics and by that time she had regaiuned some consciousness. The paramedics were great, and helped her back to our room. The restaurant gave us our uneaten steak in a paper bag, like we were really going to eat it after my wife could have died! Things got worse after that. About 10 minutes later, the bar manager (a very sweet and caring woman) came to our room and handed me a bill for the entire dinner, including the $ 60 steaks. I couldn't believe it, but as she looked like she would start to cry, I was pretty sure the manager forced her to do this. The room did not have a microwave so how could we even heat up the steaks if we wanted to?? I believe we gave the steaks back. The next morning, at check-out, we related all of this to the desk clerk and someone who said he was an assisant manager of the restaurant. We asked that at least the cost of the main course be removed from our bill. To this day we don't know if that ever happened. We were incredibly cordial and explained that we liked the hotel and most of the staff, but that this callous act did pretty much ruin our experience. And now it gets even WORSE. I contacted the hotel management a couple of times and asked for a detailed bill, again mentioning that we expected to be comped for that last dinner or at least for the main course. DEAD SILENCE. I know they received my messages and can prove it by showing my email records. This was the last straw, like being slapped in the face. They must think everyone needs to bow down with slavish loyalty. We warn everyone to be careful if you stay there and eat at their bar/restaurant. We will never retun again. This was not worth the $ 1200 or more we spent for our three nights. By the way, my wife is scheduled for an MRI and has been referred to a neurosurgeon, due to a possible finding of a mini stoke or some other disorder. We have proof of the medical informaiton to date as well, in case the hotel manager thinks we are lying.

Flew out from Santa Monica for the weekend. We were really excited for our stay. The hotel sent us a text the morning of our arrival confirming our booking. When went to check in and they told us they couldn’t find our reservation although we have confirmation numbers and our credit card has been charged - only to find out minutes later the claimed the hotel is fully booked and they have canceled our reservation. Trying to understand why at reception they said it was a “system error” - I couldn’t help notice other families checking in. The hotel offered us a 20% discount on a Uber to another hotel, that had potential availability. My family felt very singled out. I should mention we booked this hotel in June. Also, the hotel currently shows availability online. The was a completely unacceptable experience and I’ll never stay at a Heritage Property again.

We stayed for 8 nights, and were extremely disappointed at the poor quality of the experience all around. The hotel (at least our room) is in sad need of renovation. Our room was uncomfortable, with old wooden furniture that was neither quaint nor practical. The mattress was sunken in. The old wooden floors are very creaky and uneven, with a worn-out carpet thrown on top. To make matters worse, the hotel seems understaffed and poorly managed. The front desk guy at night was a downright jerk to us, and any time we made a complaint or asked for something, he explained that it was either our own fault or that the problems we were experiencing were perfectly normal. The room was not serviced during our stay. We had to ask 3 times to get our sheets and towels changed. On two ocassions we asked to speak to the manager but there was never one around, which explains the poor service overall. All in all, the only redeeming quality of this hotel is the location. But there are several other hotels within walking distance of the Plaza, and I definitely recommend anywhere else.

I need to start by saying I love the Hotel St. Francis and have stayed there many times. It’s an old hotel and has eccentricities and various room designs so your experience will vary based on what room layout you have. This is specifically about room 319. This is a very small room with a very cramped design. The sink is located at the base of the bed in the left corner and has a small mirror (but all the rooms have small mirrors…) Toiletries need to be put on the bed while you’re getting ready because there’s very minimal counter space around the vessel sink. The narrow bathroom has the toilet located next to the shower and would not be comfortable for anyone of above average size. The shower is dark when the shower curtain is closed. The room does not have space for a chair or bench so if you are one who needs to sit down to put on shoes you will need to sit on the tall bed. The windows look into the windows of the rooms across the way so we needed to keep the blackout curtains closed most of the time which kept the room quite dark. This room would be okay for a solo traveler, but definitely not for two women who might need a good mirror or to be getting ready at the same time.

It’s a lovely old hotel with some issues in the rooms. Our room 223 had a nonfunctional bedside light and no working light in the bathroom. The bathtubs need grab bars for those using the shower as the floors are slippery. The pedestal sink had a very dim light by which to apply makeup and no shelf on which to place items. All are quick fixes which would assist greatly. The lobby is beautiful and staff members were very pleasant. The location of this hotel is marvelous.
