First family camping trip we have taken in 5 years due to Covid restrictions. Had a deluxe tent site for 2 nights Sun-Tues which we spent over $200 on. Campground was relatively quiet except for our neighbors who kept us up until almost 2am. I asked them multiple times to bring the volume down but it only got louder as they laughed at us for asking them to turn it down. After the third time I asked them to be quiet at 1:30 am, one of the campers attempted to fight me. The next day we told the ranger station what happened and asked if we could get a partial refund to leave early. The manager said they would not give any refunds after your first night stay. Not to mention, our picnic table had an entire plank missing out of it, and the site was so uneven we could not set up our tent properly. This campground is nothing more than a resort for locals of Luray to come get drunk and raise hell all night. The park had absolutely zero apology for our experience.

We had three families (10 total) and we wanted to have one house/cabin to stay in. We had seen pictures of the Ranger’s Retreat and thought it would be good fit for us with the ages of the kids. Parts of the RR we really liked, and parts were yikes. First the good: kitchen and bathrooms had been renovated recently; the rooms are large; the hot tub was nice; relatively close to everything. Not so good: pricey; washer didn’t work - they gave us quarters to use; hvac was not working properly, just blew air, window units were in place but barely cooled; ice maker didn’t work, gave us ice trays. Overall, the place needs a lot of work, very haphazard. Not sure I would recommend it in this state, if fixed up though, really could be nice. Oh yeah, septic plant right next door. Water park is fun, lot of activities for kids. Saturday is the busiest day, stay other than that, would be best.

This was our 2nd visit its local from our home so with two children under the age of 9 we decided to take another trip.. VERY DISAPPOINTED very low staffed! Trash cans over flowing in the pool area, the pool themselves didn't seemed to have the best filtration system as bugs & debris were floating along with the water being extremely cloudy we overheard several other visitors complaining. (Just makes your skin crawl thinking as to actually what you may be swimming in). The Pic-A-Nic Basket which is the only place for food while in the park was disgusting the counters looked as if they hadn't been wiped down in days the condiments hadn't been refilled the eating area outside looks just as disgusting the area hadn't been swept in who knows when not to mention just about every ice cream they were out of on a 90deg day along with the slushy machine the restrooms at the pool area hadn't been cleaned or restocked of anything the entire day we swam we seen no staff to tidy anything.. There was ALOT of alcohol beverages in the pool area and quite a few intoxicated after reviewing the brochure given to us at check in this is acceptable as long as the alcohol beverages are kept in a "koozie" .. This is a family camp resort, not a bar! & again no staff monitoring anything...... Needless to say we'll definitely think twice before visiting again....

We stayed here last year and had a great time, so we came back again. Not sure we'll be back next year. Here's a list of all the broken stuff: the slushie machine, the Hi-C machine, the pizza oven and one of the three pools is closed. Staff doesn't care. There's not enough shade and most of the umbrellas are sheer which does nothing to block the sun. At check-in I asked about the military discount and was told it applies to Sun-Thur. I said okay, so I get it for Sunday, right? She just looked at me blankly and someone else came over to take care of me, sending the other gal on break.

I waited a few days to write this review to give myself time to cool down. I would give it a zero, if that was an option, which is extremely sad/disappointing to say because we had such high hopes that this would become our yearly family spot. This was our first experience at a Jellystone and it will be our last. We stayed at the Rangers Retreat (a house) because we had 20 people ranging in age from 1 to 83. The pros: (1) the house was big enough for all of us and (2) the waterpark (pools and slides) were well maintained. The cons (in no specific order), get comfortable, it is a long list: (1) ANTS were in every part of the Rangers Retreat (even the bedrooms and bathrooms). When we complained about them and the flies they came and added more traps. The 1/2 bath downstairs was so full of ants we couldn't even use it. I wish I was better with words to express how many ANTS there were. It was DISGUISTING! (2) the restroom by the water park was filthy, also there was no soap to wash hands. (3) walking in the hallway to get to the restroom was dangerous. Although they had mats, they did not cover the entire floor so it was extremely slippery. (4) they must have paid to have flies flown in - they were all over our house, the cabana and every building (i.e.: rec center). They don't even provide fly swatters, you need to buy one. We played a game to see who could kill the most flies. I believe the reason is because the sewage system is not maintained. I say that because (5) the area around the Rangers Retreat stunk (think of the worst fart you ever smelt then multiple by 1,000) all hours of the day (so being outside to grill, use the firepit and to sit in the hot tub was horrible). (6) The washing machine did not work - their solution was to give us $10 to use in the public laundry room. We were relying on the washing machine to do laundry at night when we were hanging out (we had 7 kids under the age of 11), no one wanted to waste that time in the public laundry room. What upsets me most about this is when I called on Friday to confirm, they didn't tell me about the washing machine so that we could be prepared. (7) The house was advertised as having AC, which it did in only 2 rooms. We asked for extra fans for the bedrooms (especially my Parents room because they are 79 and 83) that they never brought so we went to Walmart to buy some. (8) For a house that accommodates 20 they only had a 4 cup coffee maker. We asked for an additional one which they never brought so we went to Walmart to buy one. (9) When we arrived one of the bedrooms had a window pane missing. Why didn't housekeeping notice this? Which they fixed by taping up a piece of cardboard. (10) The house was filthy. They obviously only sweep the floors in-between guests because the filth on our socks was disgusting and whenever anything fell on the floor and we went to pick it up you could see filth (i.e.: dirt, cobwebs, wrappers, papers, pens) under the chairs, tables, etc. (11) the cost to rent the cabana and golf cart is outrageous, (12) the cost of sheets and towels for the Rangers Retreat was unbelievable, (13) the organized activities were HORRIBLE and ETREMELY DISAPPOINTING! There is so much potential here. The scavenger hunt is just them handing you a piece of paper, the arts and crafts consisted of someone standing in the front of the room doing the craft then you are left on your own to do it and the Glow in the Dark Dance was so lame I had to laugh. The music was super slow and kept skipping. The character only stayed for 15 minutes and (14) the miniature golf course is not maintained, it is pathetic. I did complain about all of these things to various managers, but they showed no empathy. In summary, we had a great time because we were all together as a family so we made our own fun. I highly recommend (beg you) that you do not waste your money on going here.

This was our first Jellystone experience, so our expectations may have been too high. In summary, we may take our family to another Jellystone to give the brand another chance - but Luray, VA was not worth the splurge in our opinion. Will not be back & do not recommend this location. PROS: We stayed at spot 94. It was concrete, and level. Our 30' camper had room to back in & F250 fit on the concrete as well. A rock wall served as a good barrier to let our 1yr & 4yr old kids play safely around our site. We were nearby one bathhouse that was well kept and clean laundry facilities & were walking distance to anything, so no need for a golf cart. The jumping pillows and splash pad provided so much fun for our kids, so luckily they had no real indication of the negatives... CON: the flies! I've never seen so many flies in my life.. I don't understand how a place can have so many houseflies across the whole place. We ate at the pic-a-nic basket but couldnt sit outside because of the flies. And the arcade was fun for the littles, but the flies just followed us in there too! The laundry / bathroom near the pool was nasty every time we went by - wet floor & out of toilet paper 2 days in a row - just not maintained properly. Then we paid $25 for 5 sticks of firewood that was delivered to our site (great!), but it was wet & never caught a flame - even with husband's blow torch. We were also disappointed at how cramped in the sites were. Many sites have no space for one vehicle to park. They have overflow parking, but no one uses it - so streets are overcrowded with trucks parked on the shoulder. This made it very difficult to maneuver in and out of the park.

I should preface this by saying that perhaps my expectations were too high. We primarily stay at state parks that are approx a quarter the cost of what we stayed to stay at Jellystone. My expectations were in line with what we paid and that wasn’t what I felt like we got. PROS Activities/amenities - there’s a lot of cool things included in what you pay that aren’t add-on prices. Things like the jumping pillow, zip line, pools, sand pit, playgrounds, hay ride, etc. Camp store - has just about everything you could need and many things you probably didn’t realize you did but your kids will want anyway. For the most part it was reasonably priced (although I did spot a $40 tumbler which seemed a bit steep). Layout - nothing is really too far of a walk. I’m not sure why so many folks insist on a golf cart because we didn’t find it necessary and my 3 and 5 year olds walked everywhere on their own without an issue. Some of the cabins at the top of the hill are probably a bit of a hike though. CONS Cleanliness - the bathrooms are downright gross. Multiple women complained and I think once during our stay they were cleaned but it wasn’t much — and the version of cleaning they did was to close the dirtiest stalls off for use leaving only 3 usable stalls. The pool also had dirty band aids all over and there was trash left everywhere. Obviously much of this can be blamed on patrons but I would hope/expect that someone would be cleaning common areas with at least some frequency. Flies - so, so many of them. Not the fault of the campground just surprising quite how many there were. Campsites - right on top of one another. The firepit for the site next to us was right next to our picnic table when we arrived (and filled with trash). My husband is pretty adamant on never returning but I’m willing to give it one more shot on the hopes that maybe it’ll improve. I heard it used to be better than what we experienced (particularly with regards to cleanliness) but I think we may be better off with a different Jellystone resort in the future.

This campground was awesome! I went with my son, one of my best friends and her two boys (ages 6, 7, and 9). There was so much to do at the campground! The boys loved the water slides so much! I wish our trip was longer than just the weekend we had booked so we could have enjoyed the pool and slides more and gotten a chance to play mini golf. The only downside was a few things with the cabin. When I had booked it, it stated that there would be a microwave in the cabin but there wasn’t one. It’s not a deal breaker but wish I had known before we had packed our food. I was also not aware that the beds had sleeping mats, not mattresses. Again, if I had known prior I would have brought a mattress topper to help with my bad back. Overall we had a fantastic stay and definitely recommend to anyone thinking about booking here!

Luray complaint I’m going to preface this complaint by saying it’s a shame the management of this place is so poor because it can be an amazing campground with their facilities. Also, several of these issues wouldn’t be a big deal at all on their own but it’s a culmination of everything. I have pictures of a lot of the issues but not all. It was on day 2 at the pizza party noted below that I started scrutinizing everything and that’s not the type of person I am. I usually let a lot slide. The lack of concern and effort from the staff to accommodate guests and deliver a product worthy of their pricing is what has me writing this. We stayed on site 17 Monday 6/17-Friday 6/24. On 6/17 There was burnt wood and a pile of ashes in our fire ring and chalk all over concrete. I wouldn’t even mention this but it’s one of so many failures by the campground management. Even after I did address with the manager he did nothing about it because on Friday 6/24 I witnessed the ranger going through checking off sites making sure people left but didn’t even stop to see if anything was in the rings. Monday, 6/18 I went to the pool and sign said the slides are closed Monday through Friday. I asked why that was and I was told that was only effective through 6/10, 8 days prior and no one took it down. Same day, they only had pork sandwiches and grilled cheese at the pic-a-Nic basket, no fries. Never even had hot dogs all week. Meanwhile Walmart is less than 10 minutes away. There’s little to no effort from them. Also, same day I noticed trash that was obviously there for weeks, never cleaned. Even after addressing it with a manager that was never fixed. The pool was never vacuumed, everyday there were leaves, bugs and debris in the pool. Also, the bathrooms poolside were clean to start the day but not maintained throughout the day. By 2:00pm they were disgusting. The pool supervisor was rude in the way she talked to the kids when opening the gates. She kept harassing me about my sunglasses even after I told her my eyes are light sensitive and exposure to the sun can trigger migraines. They have a rule where you can’t even hold them while riding. No other Jellystone or major water park I’ve been to does that. I told the rude supervisor let me talk to your manager. She looked at me, scrubbed her shoulders and called the manager. After 15-20 minutes he arrived, this was the point where I laid into him about this and a few of the issues I had including the wood which was never corrected for future guests. He said wearing the glasses while riding is a safety issue, holding them on the slide is a personal property issue because people have lost them. So he said I CAN wear them up and hold them coming down. Immediately after he left the supervisor yet again told me I couldn’t, that’s when I got rude back at her and told her what the manager said. So the manager never even informed her what was happening. I also addressed the pool sign issue at that time. I also complained about the out of order dumping station and the awful smell even 40+ feet in the air on the water slide tower. Why is out of order? Is it leaking into the ground? At the pizza party which was $8/slice the only juices they had were little hugs, super cheap and lame. Also, there were 3 employees there and all they did was set the pizza on the tables allowing guests to serve themselves barehanded. Fortunately I was second in line and made sure I touched a spot that wasn’t touched by the previous guest. The pool party was nothing more than an extra hour of swim time, no music, no bears. What made it a party? Thursday 6/23 The entire putt putt course was a dump and not maintained at all. The green on hole 5 is completely black and disgusting, we skipped the hole. There were no adult sized clubs and only one ball. After complaining at the office it took 20 minutes for someone to come over there. He still couldn’t find any longer clubs so we used kid sized ones. While waiting for the person to come over I realized the hey ride was running. It was scheduled 7:30-8:30. I got there with my mother and son at 8:19 and they told me it was over. Even after showing them the picture of the schedule on my phone and the current time they still wouldn’t accommodate me. The pictures were on my phone because when checking in the printer was down and they had no way to print schedules. Unlike the other Jellystones we’ve visited there were only 2 hey rides the entire 5 days we were there and they didn’t show a movie on Thursday. It’s the easiest and simplest thing they can do. Friday 6/24 the arts and crafts scheduled at 9:30 didn’t start until 9:40. While waiting there and talking about the disorganization at the campground another couple said they were in a cabin at $400/night and bought $200 in food to wake up to it all covered in ants. The sign with scheduled activities at the rec center was from Sunday 6/19 and Monday 6/20. Also Friday 6/24 I noticed a “no burn after 4:00” sign posted where the wood is stored. It was either an old sign or no one communicated this to us. Many people had fires going every night including myself. This was an order from the VDOF. Nothing ever seemed to be a concern for anyone there except one person. She is literally the shining light of the entire staff and first name is Isabel. She is one of the pool employee was awesome and managed the water slide lines like a pro. No other employee including the supervisor did it as well as her. The supervisor should take lessons from her in how to manage the lines and in how to talk to people. The supervisor is just not a people person at all. It’s definitely not the correct role for her. 6/25 called Northgate Resorts and left a voicemail wanting someone to call me back, no one answers the phone. A couple hours later I received a call from Luray, VA, not Grand Rapids, MI where they are based. They actually had Amanda the GM of the campground I’m complaining about call me while he is laughable as she is obviously a huge part of the problem. It starts at the top and she seemed equally concerned about the problems as her employees, not at all. Not once did she apologize nor did she ever seem really concerned about these issues. It’s obvious she doesn’t get in a cart and ride around to verify jobs are being done. It’s par for the course. When people like myself are paying over $140/ night for a campsite stuff like this should not happen. Furthermore, I said I wanted a call from someone who can actually do something about these issues. When I ended the call she said she had to talk to her management first. So in the end, my request I left on the message was not fulfilled as she doesn’t have the authority to offer any type of compensation. 6/27 at 8:30 pm, I called again, left a message advising them I wanted a resolution within 24 hours, nothing, not one call.

We decided to try this Yogi park after staying at another one last year. The campground itself was nice. It’s built on a hill, and our site faced full sun the majority of the day which was less than ideal. Our site had a great view, but after the rainstorm, half of our lot was a puddle. There were three pools and several water slides. One of the pools was cloudy/dirty the entire time we were there. The pool that most of the smaller kids played in had rocks/debris at the bottom that kids kept cutting their feet on. There were no lifeguards on duty. At one point, there was a hose put in the pool presumably to add water, but it was unattended. So children were using it to spray people in the face and whatnot. A bit later that day there was serious rough housing in the water that also became bothersome when there was no staff on-hand to address the behavior. The activities seemed to be disorganized. There were not enough supplies for craft activities. There was no direction and things seemed like a free for all. For the “pool party” there was nothing except a small blue tooth speaker. There were no other props or anything to constitute a “party”. Friends reserved a cabana, and nobody seemed to know who was in charge of reservations. Only one side of the zip line was operational. The slide in the kiddie play area at the pool was roped off. For the amount of money that we spent for our trip, we would have liked to see things more functional and organized.
