My husband and I enjoyed our time immensely at the cabin. We went for walks down by the river which is right behind our cabin. We would go into the jacuzzi each night which was so nice. We also visited Luray Caverns which was such a blessing to finally see. The best part is just how quiet and peaceful it was. We will definitely be back.
Our stay at Gander Island Cabins was truly wonderful in every way - it was very generously priced, very clean, SUPER cozy, and overall a great experience. We enjoyed hot coffee on the porch in the chilly mornings and relaxed at the end of the day with a dip in the hot tub. The bedroom had a beautiful fireplace and the loft area would be perfect for children. Only a short drive to Harrisonburg where there are plenty of fun things to do!
My husband and I spent Thanksgiving weekend in the Outpost cabin of Gander Island Cabins and had a wonderful experience. The cabin is beautiful and well appointed. The location is ideal to get away from it all! The cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a small but adequate kitchen. It is dog friendly and our 2 thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The cabin was clean and came with a starter kit that exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this location and cabin to relax and spend some time with nature.
We all wanted to stay much longer! Just a wonderful place. My children loved the hot tub and the little fire place. In the night we saw so many beautiful fire flies. Wished we could have stayed longer!
I spent days trying to find somewhere to stay near the Shenandoah mountains that felt classic, rustic, cabin-y enough. I cannot say enough good things about this gem of a cabin. The inside looks like a homey cabin but has a small kitchen and bathroom, table, chairs, tv, and comfy beds. It is fixed on a river and is high up overlooking it. Absolutely beautiful to do morning porch yoga. The owners are hands off and you get the key via lock box so there isn’t anyone breathing down your neck, you’re independent here. Do yourself a favor and stay here. You won’t be disappointed!!
We had a lovely weekend getaway at Lisa and Dave's cabin. The amenities are plentiful and great, the location easy to access but offers some privacy from the hustle of city life, and they were very friendly and helpful. We'd definitely return.
Perfect weekend in the country. The cabins are on the Shenandoah River, so tubing/canoeing/kayaking are right there. Minutes from the caverns and SNP. Cabin was well-stocked and immaculate. Owners were friendly and arrangements agreeable. Thanks for a great weekend! PS-- traveled with our dogs-- they loved it too!
There aren't enough superlatives to describe the beauty, meticulousness, cleanliness & comfort of this cabin. The cabin is immaculate, very well appointed with everything needed except your food. The Shenandoah river is about 30' from the balcony overlooking it. A myriad of song birds greet you while you savor your morning coffee on the elevated balcony which places you close to the tree canopy of sycamores, elms & birches. If you want solitude without desolation, peace and quiet in a natural setting, won't be disappointed with Gander Island Cabins.
This was our 2nd summer here and each time it is so hard to leave. This year we stayed in Mother Goose and it is perfect. Plenty of room, great little kitchenette, very comfy beds and sofa. Plus, the enormous windows provide a spectacular view of the mountains and river, even when it's raining. The upper deck is a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch a kingfisher dive for breakfast. In the evening, it's a perfect spot to watch a family of deer in the meadow across the river. The fire pit provided this urban family the chance to make s'mores and roast wienies. Great experience. Thanks David and Lisa for sharing your land with us.
This summer we visited the Gander Island Cabins for the second time, the first being last year. We loved it just as much this time around. We were a group of six friends and we reserved the Gander Cabin, which out of the three is furthest to the right. We were right next to a large field in which we tossed a frisbee and laid out to stargaze. The stars are amazing here and both years we have seen shooting stars. Regarding the inside of the cabin, I did find there to be some things that are quite noisy in the middle of the night. The bed in the back room squeaks with even the slightest movement, and the bathroom and bedroom doors rattle and scrape along the floor. These are definitely not deal-breakers, but are things that could be improved to make a completely 100% stellar experience. We spent time in the hot tub and on the deck during the rain, and played in the creek when it was sunny. We spent three nights here, and there are few things better than waking up early and sitting on the deck overlooking the creek before the day gets hot. The cabins are close enough that social neighbors could come say hi, but have enough distance and trees between them that you can also have complete privacy. This is a vacation that allows for both relaxation and adventure, and I have recommended it to quite a few people.…
