This location is beautiful and quiet. It is ideally located along the Shenandoah River and allows for river water play and float. However, there were several let downs. First, we drive a class A RV and don't tow. We were not able to find an Uber or Lyft ride 3 miles down 211 to visit the Luray Caverns. The office staff was not accommodating at all. You would have thought that one of the "Resort" staff would have been able to drive us 3 miles down the road, but it wasn't even offered. I highly suggest that they get a van or bus to provider transportation to guests if needed. Second, they don't rent floats for their river. Third, their bath house was very small considering the large number of camper and tent sites they had available.
Stayed here 3 nights Weds Thurs Fri first week of Sept. First night was sparse and quiet, the next two nights more campers started to arrive but was still quiet and relaxed. Property is very well maintained and has great mountain views! Our site was pretty level with a picnic table and fire ring and full hookups. Staff was very nice and the store has about anything you would need. Right on the river but no water side sights its a good hike down to water, or you can rent a golf cart to ride around in but we did not do that we just rode our bikes around. Bathrooms and shower house seemed cleaned but I only used it once as I had everything in camper I needed. Great location also, with easy access to surrounding national parks, attractions and skyline drive. Do yourself a favor and visit Triple Crown Barbeque 5 mins down the road. Excellent food!! Get there early as they sell out it seems. Oh and watch the speed ramps within the campground, they do a good job of keeping traffic slowed but if you forget one your going to dent your roof with your head lol…
Lovely campground with mainly Pro's but a few Con's. First the Pro's: The property is large, beautiful, and immaculate. Grass is pristine, landscaping has rocks and fountains and walking paths all around you. Their golf cart trails are awesome and therefore riding around the property is a fun activity. So...GET A GOLF CART. The river tubing is a great leisurely activity (if you don't have a tube they sell them at the office) and you'll want that golf cart for pick up at the end point bc the walk back with tubes is inclined and not a short hike. The views are beautiful and their location is excellent. Easy drive to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and caverns. There was a severe storm one evening and their staff showed up immediately the next AM to help us as some of our site had flooded. They took care of us and I have zero complaints about it. We were in our lawn chairs enjoying the view the very next day. Mostly all of their staff was friendly. Cons: There is one young woman with brown hair at the front desk who is extremely unfriendly. Does not even respond when you speak to her. It’s not welcoming at all when you’ve driven 6 hrs and are given an attitude at check in. I left a message about potential late check in which was not returned so that was stressful. Turned out we made it before the office closed but it would have been helpful if someone returned my call to assure me that a slightly late check in would be fine. There is no way to get from the tubing endpoint back to entry without a cart or a long walk. If you're a large group you can switch off but if you're a couple like us, it's tough. No one there to pick us up. The price is a bit steep considering there are zero activities. This is a natural campground without any events or usual amenities. Have to get your wood before the office closes, no entertainment or daily activities. It's strictly the river and the views. That was fine for us but be aware. If you're there for the Nat'l Park and the Caverns, you'll be fine for a few days and will soak up nature's beauty. Probably best for short stays but don't miss if you are looking for quiet. It's a beautiful place. I'm glad we went and would recommend. Don't forget the golf cart, though. :)…
We used to love to camp here. It's now been sold and the prices are outrageous. There are no onsite amenities so there is no reason for the prices to be so high. New minimum stay requirement... military discount only for active duty.
If youve been to any other area campgrounds youll know why 'Outlanders' has so many rules... The greens are gloriously kept up. Golf cart paths everywhere. Great fishing and water access. Flys are noticeable but nothing like Yogi down the road. Very convenient location.
Me and my friend went camping, we stayed at plataform 20 and it was perfect, it is close enough to the bathhouse and it is separated from all the other camping grounds, so it is very private. The staff was super friendly and told us about an outlook that we should go to, definitely worth it. Everything is very clean and well maintained.
We camped in our own camper at this location. Campground is a small campground located on the Shenandoah river. Facilities we all clean and well maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful. This was our second stay this year and we have booked again for next year.
We spent 3 days here over the summer. You must rent a golf cart - the property is too large to explore without it. The kids loved exploring the trails, the river, looking for animals, etc. It really made the trip. The only negative to speak of is the lots are sunny since the trees aren't mature, but it gives the kids a lot of open area to play in. Other highlights - Tubing on the property - a little slow for the kids but adults would love it Swimming in the river - clean and warm Staying right by the playground and meeting other kids
We were just heading South on 81 in our RV pulling a car when we we found this place. For a quick overnight We were looking around Luray. It was a short drive over a Mt. at RV speed we made it in 15-20 minutes. The road is in great shape with passing lanes for faster vehicles. The staff was pleasant, great little store, very clean facilities (we didn’t need to use as we are fully equipped but do this for reviews) water pressure in showers adequate. Great hiking trails that appear to be private to the camp. Trails go down to the Shenandoah River with some swimming areas that are swim at your own risk, which of course our dog did! Beware the large somewhat hidden life size bear statue at the first trail head. My dog saw it first and his bark alarmed me. Of course I jumped! And then had to go pet the bear before my dog would give it up! 😊 We used a full hookup site, and noticed they are adding 6 new sites with cement parking pads. The current full hook up sites are adequate and mostly level. Besides these sites they have the nicest tent sites right down on the river. Must hike from main camp as there are no vehicles allowed but not far from main camp. Those sites are fenced individually with flat tent area, fire ring and tables. More tent sites in main camp area. Also 3 really nice cabins that appear newer, at least one has a hot tub outside. The fall colors were beautiful in the Mts. The grounds were so pretty and well kept. We will go back on a return trip to home some spring. Saw a lot of things to do/go see. And the cute little towns along the way. Caverns as well. I’d say a good bang for your buck. Good morning Sunshine! Wish we didn’t have to run. See you soon…
Beautiful property!!! The sites are spacious and the views are gorgeous. The camp store is very nice and the staff very helpful. They are relatively new so amenities are being added but there are currently a few cabins (extremely nice) available to rent if you don't have a camper. We will definitely visit again - with a group!! Close to New Market and all that Luray has to offer.
