Shadow Mountain Escape is like no other place I have ever seen. Owners Karen and Ralph reached out and graped Europe and brought it back to Virginia. Each trimber fame cabin is decorated in European style. Its like your in a cabin from Europe. The furniture in these cabins are also mostly brought back from Germany. One can't walk around and not admire the detail that went into everything selected inside those cabins. If your able to get over to the AWE of these beautiful buildings you will notice their location. They all sit on a lovely property that is shared with many beautiful deer. There's is also a lovely pond where I sit and have my coffee each day. If you look up the definition of peaceful this place is sure to come up. If you're luckily enough to meet the owners who live on property they can fill you in on the detail that went into creating them. These aren't just a place to stay it's an entire European experience. I highly recommend staying in this unique European paradise. Can't wait to return for a fourth time.…
I randomly came across this property when searching places to elope, and I am so glad that I did! In contacting the owner, I felt as ease and knew it was the right place to book. The property is absolutely beautiful, with a pond, stream, walking trail, shared areas with information about the timber frame structures and a fire pit. We stayed in the Butterfly cabin which had a small but efficient kitchen, a balcony deck, a comfortable 4 poster bed and many yummy treats from the owner! We booked the elopement package and got to choose where on the property we wanted to be married (we chose by the bubbling stream) and were so pleased with the pictures and how quickly Karen got them to us. The whole property is just magical! We watched the deer, saw frogs and ducks at the pond, had birds singing to us and the forest sparkled with fireflies. We really couldn't have asked for better hosts or a more relaxing weekend away to get married!…
Every since the first telephone conversation with Karen I knew the Shadow Mountain Escape would be amazing!!! Karen's and Ralph's warm welcome and conversations made it evident of their love for their property. They are truly doing what they love. Thank you Karen and Ralph for making our elopement a special occasion. It exceeded all our expectations. The baked goods, flowers, chocolate and wine were divine!!! Tons of wildlife on the property, deer and fawn and tons of birds. 2 nights nights was definitely not enough. You won't want to leave and I can't wait to return!
We stayed at Shadow Mountain Escape for two nights for our wedding. Everything was more than you could imagine or hope for. The personal touches of goodies in the room when you arrive, Karen and Ralph’s presence around the property, the property and cabins, it was just amazing! Karen and Ralph almost make you feel like a guest in their own home, they’re so personable! Our wedding ceremony was by the stream with pictures all around the property. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding weekend or a more perfect place to have it!
We had an amazing time at Shadow Mountain Escape! The timber frame cabins are beautiful and impressive, and the history behind them is fascinating. Karen and Ralph were incredibly welcoming. The property and the nature trail are gorgeous, and it is directly adjacent to Shenandoah National Park. We had an amazing time and will be back!
I could say a million great things about Karen and Ralph. They let us book last minute when our original plans fell through and were so accommodating! We had the most perfect, snowy elopement day on their property. Karen is so thoughtful and her upbeat personality is contagious! She made us delicious heart shaped brownies and a personal red velvet cake to celebrate. Ralph was very helpful and made sure we had everything we need and were able to make it out of the snow covered roads safely. The Bumblebee cabin was very cozy and contained the most unique pieces of art, decor and furniture. It was the perfect place to unplug for the weekend. We will definitely be back!!
Shadow Mountain Escape is such a relaxing, unique retreat. If you are looking for peacefulness, quiet and nature, look no further. I actually liked the limited cell and internet service! I prefer looking at the deer walking around the property. The timber frame cabins are built with such precision that I was in awe of their construction. We stayed in The Butterfly Cabin, which sits off to itself but still a close walk to the others. Once you walk up the outside stairs, everything is on the same floor. Small, efficient kitchen with oven, microwave, refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. Even an old fashioned tea pot for heating your hot water. The bathroom is spacious and very clean. The entire cabin was immaculate. And wait til you see Karen’s welcome goodies!! So yummy! Karen and Ralph are the perfect hosts. I could listen to the stories of their adventures all day. There are wineries, breweries and distilleries within a short drive and the town of Luray is quaint with good local shops and restaurants. We can’t wait to return !…
Shadow Mountain Escape has the perfect name - as it was a true escape for us! From the moment we drove in, we were transported and greeted by our awesome hosts. The beautiful cabin is a relaxing paradise with authentic timberframe construction, European furniture and finishing and handmade details - topped with delicious desserts made by Karen. The location is perfect - right near great hikes, wineries and restaurants. We easily filled 4 days and have a must-do list for our next trip! Karen and Ralph are the most welcoming hosts and interesting people. They invited us to their guest evening complete with mulled wine, cookies and more. It was an evening and holiday break we are so thankful for!
My wife and I had a wonderful time during our stay at Shadow Mountain Escape. The owners are friendly and helpful. The lodgings are beautifully decorated. All the amenities you could need are provided. The surrounding area is private and provides plenty of opportunity to observe nature or just sit and enjoy a campfire. We had a great time there and recommend SME to our family and friends.
We had a great time here for our anniversary celebration. Karen was a sweet host and took some lovely photos for us! The rooms, location, wine, and booking process were all excellent. A peaceful, beautiful, nature-filled weekend.
