I am sure that, at some point, this hotel was first class. Unfortunately, it appears that something has allowed them to lose sight of the small things that make the difference between what they WERE, and what they ARE. First impressions were very good: historic architecture, classy music in the lobby and elevator, very helpful front desk. But then, then the shine started to fade. It took over an hour to get ice delivered to the room. The “smart shower” did not work and we needed to move to a room with a working shower. 75% of the menu items that we ordered at restaurant were different than, as described on the menu. The public hot springs area (just outside our window) was filled with people playing load music until after 11PM. (Even though they have a sign stating no music allowed.) It is too bad that skimping on the small things shines a poor light on the employees who are trying to do the best that they can.

Hotel's Favourite
First rate renovated hotel, with exceptional rooms and unique lower level rotating bar and friendly rooftop bar. Large rooms and handy electronic controls for lights, curtains and shower. Entrance area a little confusing.

Spent three nights in March 2023 at the Curtiss and for the most part enjoyed it.... Positives: 1. the Urban Hot Springs was amazing....so enjoyed siting in it one afternoon as it snowed on us...magic!!! 2. the food was very good....had dinner, lunch and snacks at the place...all were just dandy...special shout out for the antipasto plate...yum!! 3. the food voucher for the dinner makes for really good value 4. the location is great (fun Irish pub close by) ...quick walk to sites like the city hall observation deck 5. the staff were fantastic for the most part (more later)....especially the bar staff and the maids we met on the elevators...very cheery and friendly 6. you ask for something - you get it pronto! 7. the valet parking is included and makes for nice value as well Negatives: 1. some of the staff were downright rude to us. These few should not be in the service industry. 2. the Hot Springs clearly reads "nobody under the age of 16 allowed' yet on two days we had young children in there....If you are going to have rules, enforce them 3. the showers really could stand clearer instructions....be prepared to get a jolt of ICE cold water until you figure them out..... that said, I have no hesitation in recommending the Curtiss. We had a great time and should i travel to Buffalo again, i would not hesitate to stay there again... regards

My husband and I spent 2 days, Monday and Tuesday at this hotel. We could have chosen any place to spend our 25th anniversary but we chose The Curtiss. It was a very disappointing two days. The hotel is run very poorly. Desk people, the “face” of this hotel, were rude and inept. The bartender was disinterested and the choice of beer was limited to a few domestic bottles, nothing on tap- which was surprising since Buffalo seems to have breweries on every corner. Our first room had a tv that was not working so I had to repack and then unpack again after they moved us from the second floor to the third floor, which was unfortunately under the forth floor which is having carpets cleaned and it sounded like some repairs being done.. Why we were put on the 3rd floor under this noise is a mystery. We never saw any other patrons while coming and going, the place was not booked full. Many unpleasant things were encountered. The place is dirty. Light fixtures are covered in dust and grime and the water glasses in our room had lip marks on them. We had what I would consider to be a small issue when rechecking in ( we had to check out/ recheck in because we stayed our first day “regular” and the second we opted for the “Staycation” package) the Desk person didn’t let us know that we needed to pay for each day separately and charged our check in card when we had a gift card. We had told the gal we checked in with on Monday that we had the gift card and she was nice and told us no problem, we only needed to resign paperwork for our second day. Well, our bank card was charged and I asked the desk person to refund the card and use my gift card… apparently this was a BIG DEAL. We needed the manager to reverse the charges and she was on her way, but not yet there. After the desk person told me it was my fault because I didn’t tell him I had a gift card ( I had no idea we were paying for our two days separately) I smiled and explained that I did not want funds left on the gift card because this was not a place we regularly visit, so I wanted the gift card used first to assure it was all used before using our card. We were told that we would receive a call when the manager arrived and his obvious annoyance was unprofessional and unwarranted. After waiting in our room for over an hour we decided to go explore downtown Buffalo. We inquired about the manager when we got down to the desk and were told she was not there yet. When we returned we again stopped at the desk and were told she was in a meeting. We finally received a call while back at our room and we went right down to straighten everything out. Imagine our surprise when there was a different young lady ( very nice) who was tasked with taking our gift card and assuring us that the refund and charge would take place later because the manager was busy. I was uncomfortable leaving a $300 gift card there with no receipt but I did. The refund was later made and the gift card charged- instead of a phone call or knock on the door we were emailed, I guess face to face interaction is not a priority when dealing with unhappy guests. The same desk person who charged our card instead of the gift card checked us out this morning, never said “good morning” never apologized for the inconvenience, nothing. Our dinner Tuesday night was good, but while our waiter was friendly he was not properly trained. There was literally two other couples dining in the entire restaurant but even after stating that we wanted to take our time we were rushed through dinner. Our entrees were placed in front of us while we were still enjoying our appetizers- it was not almost closing time and the place was empty, the servers timing was terrible. We then went back to our room and noted lights were on when we were quite sure we had turned them off. We retired for the night and we’re woken by the lights- ALL OF THEM turning on. I turned them off on the iPad next to the bed and went back to sleep only to again be woken by ALL of the lights coming on again. It did this once an hour ALL NIGHT LONG. I have no idea what caused that but it continued until we checked out at about 8:30am. We Will absolutely never return unless there is new ownership and educated staff. Most definitely NOT a 5 Star hotel.

Greeting and valet parking was super swift and easy. We got a huge corner room with a huge bathroom with a very fancy shower (normal shower head, rain shower and three additional showerheads in the wall), big bathtub. But no robes. We asked for robes three times (!) until we got some - and we needed them because the Curtiss has beautiful hot springs and we wanted to visit them. The third time (when we finally got the robes) the maid said she was at our room twice before but did not leave the robes since we were not in the room (wtf?). Weirdest thing I have ever heard from hotel staff. Other than that: service was good, and the hotel is sultry and sexy, exquisitely adorned on the inside. I am however not entirely sure if I would visit again because the views, well, they are either to a parking garage or a parking lot. Neither of which is the Curtiss' falt but it is simply not nice.

This is our second time staying at the Curtiss. The room and immunities outdid our expectations. The highlight of our stay came from the Spa. My husband and I had the pleasure of booking (2) 90 minute massage treatments with Nicole. I normally book a massage at least 1 to 2 times a month for the past 10 years, and I can hands down say that Nicoles technique and attention to detail is second to none. I am post 1 day of massage, and am still reeling in the positive effects. Go Bills!

Sadly our expectations were not met. We have stayed here multiple times in the past and were very happy. This time, for the price that was paid, the breakfast was incredibly underwhelming. Dried out week old muffins. Then when were ready to leave, we find our vehicle dead because the valet did not park the manual vehicle properly and killed the battery. Then they had no jumper cables to assist us. Will be looking elsewhere to stay in the future

IMO the best thing about this hotel is the smart bathroom and the bed was comfy. Decor is very outdated. Free breakfast means- cereal, coffee, yogurt, and stale croissants. I expected more for over $300/ a night. Customer service on the other hand was very mediocre at best. They charged my fiancé and I’s room total twice and never got an apology from any of the staff for their mistake. occasionally we would get not so friendly looks ( we are a mixed race couple) I did not feel like I was staying at a 5 star hotel. Closer to a 3 star ⭐️ to match this review.

If you’re looking to stay in a typical cookie-cutter hotel like a Holiday Inn, the Curtiss is not for you. However, if quality bed linens, classy furnishings, great food, close in parking, and prompt courteous service are important to you, then the Curtiss is for you.
