The property is in transition between the old owners, Diamond International and the new owners Hilton Grand Vacations Club. There were some good points and some not so good points. Overall, the staff were friendly and were pleasant. The room service was not daily, but was good when we had it. The pool area amenities were good, very good live entertainment and Happy Hour prices were fair with good 'slushy' type cocktails and good cold beer. It is conveniently located at the south end of Waikiki, 10 min walk to Ala Moana Shopping Centre. Nice views of the Marina and ocean as well.

Timeshare owners do not come here!!!!!!!!!! I was actually told that timeshare owners are placed in the less desired rooms. This was the worst week of sleep I have ever had. There are stains on the carpet and black hair on the towels. The beds are super uncomfortable. I was moved rooms twice. The first night there were people that got home and were drunk banging on the walls from 1-3 (thought oh well I can handle that for one night). Then the same thing happened again. Security was called and they stopped for a few minutes then started again. We changed rooms from 822 to 725. Then we found bed bugs!!! I killed one and gave it to the security person. We were then moved over to 1610 where yet again people came back and decided to be loud from 1-3. The fact that we had to deal with bed bugs is horrible!!!! We had our laundry laundered there and as we were boarding our flight were called and told that we did not receive it all so it would be shipped and given a tracking number. A few days later and we still do not have a tracking number. Plus now that we are home we had to take extra measures of cleaning our suitcases and bags to make sure we didn't bring any other bed bugs home with us. My wife has had a couple of bites appear since we have been home. The only thing that was positive was your one manager that we talked with about the bed bugs. Past that this entire experience was horrible.…

We booked this hotel at the end of our vacation for a night before flying home, so we had stayed in a number of different places over the previous 2-3 weeks. Firstly, despite being called the Modern, the rooms are sadly feeling a bit rough around the edges. Everything was scuffed or stained. That in itself is not the end of the world, and obviously happens as properties get older. However, the first room we were given was dirty. Lots of crumbs on the floor, hairs in the bedding, marks/substances on the surfaces which wiped off easily (i.e. not some stain they couldn't clean). We called reception and they quickly gave us another room. This room was better, but still not really clean (balls of hair on the carpet etc). I would say that the staff in reception were very welcoming and friendly and responded quickly to give us a different room, but clearly the cleaning and maintenance of this hotel is very substandard and needs to be massively improved. The location is ok. In Waikiki and you can walk to the main shopping/beach area in about 15 minutes, but definitely away from the action. That was ok for our one night (we had stayed more centrally earlier in our trip, which was a much more fun experience), but might be annoying if that was your main base. Car parking (self park) was easy and reasonable (although we saw no signs saying it was actually the modern until you had already parked and walked halfway in). We didn't have time to use the pool, fitness and other facilities so cannot comment. Overall, the hotel felt dated and the location wasn't great, but the staff were friendly and welcoming.…

With sad regret I'm writing this review because I want others to be aware of my experience at The Modern Honolulu. Sadly I was bitten (over a dozen bites) during my 5 night stay. This resorts in Hawaii was listed under our Anantara ownership website. To start we had to pay for chargers we were not notify of during our reservation: $250.55 hotel fee and $100 deposit per room and $26.13 for parking per night. Non of these fees were listed as additional charges on the site. This was my worst experience in my 43 years. The resort compensate me by moving room, washing/folding all my family clothes, refunding $250 resort fee. I also have deal with a third party insurance for any additional compensation. Thankfully I'm in the military so my medical visit was covered. I hope timeshare ownership companies vett who they partnered with so owners experiences/memories are not ruined by other resorts. I also provided feedback to the resort management team to assist with training their staff.…

Had a great stay, they were very friendly and the local is great. I had a great view and it is close to several beaches and marinas. the pool is nice and the gym is as well. I had a great time on this business trip and I plan to bring my family back.

Recently spent five nights at The Modern Honolulu and had a very enjoyable stay. The room and the whole hotel were very clean and presentable and the location was great - just on the outskirts and not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle like some of the other hotels. If I were to make any negative comments it would simply be that we were a little disappointed with the lack of housekeeping. We are not a fussy family by any means, but it would have been nice to have had the bedding changed at least once during our stay, and to receive fresh towels without having to ask (which did arrive promptly when we did ask I have to say). Also, when kids were playing in the pool, they had a small inflatable ball that they were playing with (simply throwing to one another) and were sternly told "NO INFLATABLES". I found this a little unfair considering it was the family pool and obviously not the Adults Only pool. Apart from those two small matters, we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend to others.…

The hotel is very outdated. The room had old carpet and was very basic for a hotel that was supposed to be ranked a 4.5 star. There was no housekeeping services or room service. We were told to get towels from the front desk if we need them. Our breakfast was served on a paper plate. We felt like this hotel should be ranked a 3 star. There seemed to be very little staff working at the hotel. We were very unhappy with the stay.

The Modern is well located, it's very near the marina and the Waikiki beach. The Waikiki beach walk is within walking distance as well as the Ala Moana Beach Park. Our room had an southwest ocean view overlooking the marina and a little bit of the mountains, it was a beautiful scenery.
