From the moment we arrived at The Equus in Honolulu I knew that this hotel was so much more than just another hotel. All the staff were friendly and courteous from the moment we entered the premises. The foyer where you check in was like a cozy little living room, and our room was beautiful with a comfortable king size bed, a fridge with a freezer, and old weathered real wooden furniture. The housekeeping staff take great pride in providing a clean room. The Paniolo is a small cafe/bar where we were treated to a complimentary beverage our first night, annd there’s a few choices for breakfast. Although we only stayed 2 nights while waiting to board a cruise ship we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will book again when we return. We did a layover in Honolulu and we aren't fans of big brand hotels as they are just high rise concrete jungles. I found the Equus which is a very sweet family run hotel and booked straight away, I'm so glad I did, what a little gem in this big loud city! The rooms are comfortable and the shower is actually the best we have experienced on holiday! There is a lot of road noise but guessing all hotels on the strip would suffer the same problem. I'm a really light sleeper and it didn't stop me from sleeping, just the odd reversing lorry woke me up briefly at dawn! What we really loved about this hotel was the personal feel, anything you need and the staff would assist straight away, and it had a cute bar where we chatted to other guests and Matt the bar man would get involved and had us all laughing. On our check out day, we got stuck up Diamond Head as someone climbed it without water and had a medical emergency so we were stuck for over an hour at the top in the heat waiting for a helicopter to rescue them. We rushed back half hour late and panicked but the team were so sweet and made a joke of it, it really was appreciated as we know how busy they are during change overs and we made their life harder! Not sure I would recommend any changes to this hotel, it's a great price, perfect location, staff are amazing and it just has a good vibe, something you can't achieve in the big crowded hotels. Great service from Lincoln at the front desk who gave us a warm welcome and great advice about options of things to do. Beach towels and beach chairs available. Very nice hotel, in a central location and with helpful staff.

This review is causing a conflict within me - on the one hand this establishment is worthy of the highest praise, but I’d hate to see it surge in popularity at the risk of ruining what I love about it. It has a small intimate bar that is as likely to be filled with locals as with hotel guests. The rooms are spacious, well decorated and a great value. It has a limited but curated food menu. It is not good for kids or anyone with a physical handicap. We love it and wouldn’t consider staying elsewhere in Honolulu.

Kollett is the most sweetest person! We loved the hospitality at this beautiful hotel!! I am definitely coming here EVERY time we come for another vacation. The location was everything! Short walk to the beach. Rooms were cleaned every day by the amazing staff especially Jacquie. Loved every moment here!

Stayed here altogether 11 nights. Loved every moment of my stay at the hotel. All were so kind and felt so welcommed. Highly can recommend to stay at The Equus. I was very happy with the stay. I loved the location with its easy access to a tremendous number of food choices at the Ala Moana Center. Also enjoyed being close to the Ala Moana Beach Park -- especially at sunset, with views of Diamond Head (if you followed the path). It was a long, but enjoyable walk to Waikiki. The staff was excellent and I thought it was reasonably priced (especially because I qualified for the Kamaaina discount). The one negative ... big city street noise, i.e., motorcycles and sirens. I am not a light sleeper and I used ear plugs. I was able to sleep, but I wish it had been quieter. I was on the 4th floor. Maybe a higher floor would have been better.

Excellent hotel option for Waikiki. The only cost friendly nice hotel I’ve found in the area. My wife and I recently stayed overnight for a night away from Kaneohe. Not a resort, not a lot of frills but it’s clean, friendly, and we’ll appointed. Especially for the price you can’t beat it!
