This Motel was undergoing renovations when I was there. I'm not sure what it was before, but it has become modern in so many ways. It was a weird check-in process as we were told the key was hanging on the wall in the room which meant the door was unlocked. We were then told to leave the key hanging when we left so no interaction whatsoever. The beds were comfortable and the towels wonderful. The decor is a bit cold and dark as the main room had hardly any lights except near the bed. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom and with the windows not having screens it was a bit stuffy. Overall, comfortable room and quieter than I expected being on a main street.
Stayed two nights. We had a text before we arrived with instructions...there are no staff on premises. We were on the first floor so could park right by our door. Room was spacious with a queen memory foam mattress and two pillows, and nice linens and towels. The tv, fridge and microwave all worked well, and there was a small table and two chairs as well as one luggage rack. Fixtures in bathroom were new and there was great lighting throughout. Our only suggestion is to have another luggage rack or bench or something to put a second suitcase on—we are too old to be accessing a suitcase on the floor. If we were staying longer , we’d have requested one. The restaurant across the street, the Library, had very good food—we enjoyed being able to walk there.
Made a Non-cancelable reservation for a two queen-bed room for two adults. Arrived on schedule. There is no "office" when you check-in. You call a phone number taped to the window. When I called, I was told they did not have that type of room available. The voice on the other end of the line said it had been 'double-booked', sorry. Had no alternatives. Not even a roll-away to add to a single bed room. I then asked if I could just cancel the reservation. I was told yes. So, I did, and went somewhere else. Now, I'm being charged for the room, and they've refused my request for a refund. Not how I would run a business. So beware....
I booked a room at this hotel because of the rating on trip advisor. Yes, the hotel is renovated. However, I don’t think you can ever get rid of the smoke smell in a room that has been smoked in for years. I am going to have to wash all of my clothes in my suitcase because the smell is so bad and clings to everything. There are no smoking signs everywhere but the rooms smells like an old shut up bar.
I preface this review by saying that Hampton Inns are the bottom of my hotel rating system so the thought of staying at a “motel” is generally horrifying! The Nomad in International Falls, MN has raised my expectations!! They have recently remodeled - everything is super new & clean! More Strengths: price ($99;) air conditioning; great water pressure in the shower; microwave, fridge & Kuerig; outlet/USB box on the nightstand. Ask for a first floor room and you can park your car 6 feet from your door! Highly recommended!!
