The hotel is an old beauty with a warm charm and a great staff. Our fourth floor room was quiet, airy, and very clean, but lacked a private bath which is not bad for men, but ladies did some waiting. The room was small, but neat...More
We had a lovely room in the Northernmost hotel in the Yellowstone Park, an old hotel with great staff and a nice dining facility. We watched Elk and mule deer right next to our windows, quite exciting. The nicest of the three hotels we utilized...More
We stayed at the cabins in Mammoth Springs during the elk rut. Not only did we get a nice comfortable cabin with views of the Mammoth Terrace, we got to hear the elk bugling and see the bulls in action so to speak.
Athough the rooms are small and dated, the central location in northwest yellowstone to see the hot springs and wildlife cannot be beat. The restaurant was a big disappointment:rather mediocre food and spotty service since the season quickly winds down after Labor Day. Many guided...More
My mother, sister, and I traveled to Yellowstone on vacation this past August. We stayed in cabin that had its own hot tub. It was amazing! We knew going into this part of the trip that the cabin only had a queen size bed, but...More

Roads in the park begin to open in mid to late April. The Yellowstone National Park web site lists April 20, 2018 as the opening date for the West Entrance to Madison, Mammoth to Old Faithful, Norris to Canyon. The road from the North Entrance (Gardiner) to the Northeast Entrance (Cooke City) is open year- round but may close temporarily due to inclement weather and other reasons. This road takes you through Lamar Valley, which affords you an excellent chance of viewing wildlife. Because this road intersects with the Mammoth Hot Springs area, I would have to think you'd be able to walk the boardwalks to view these incredible terraces. Lodging in the park doesn't open up until the end of April, so your best bet for lodging close to the park would be in the town of Gardiner. Even though the road to Old Faithful and the geyser basins on the west side of the park aren't scheduled to open until April 20th, don't give up hope that it's a mild snow season and that they could open up earlier. Also, pack winter clothing as weather can change dramatically there. Even if you can't get to experience all of Yellowstone, what you do experience will leave you yearning to come back. Again, if you haven't done so already, visit the Yellowstone National Park government web site. Have fun on your adventure!
