Tent camping in the forest of many lodgepole pine trees was wonderful. Here are my observations: Advantages: beautiful forest, sites not on top of each other, no noisy squirrels--only chipmunks, showers, close to restaurants & facilities, close to Hayden & Lamar Valleys for wildlife viewing...More

I know winter comes early in Yellowstone but all their campgrounds close way too early. It was still 72 degrees out and every last sight was booked in the whole park. This campground right in the village should be open longer. Missing the boat.

6 person limit - is this enforced? I have a group of 5 adults (me, husband, my mother father and sister) and my 2 kids. I know they have a 6 person limit for each camping site. Is this strictly enforced? Do they count your party when you check in and/or when you are staying?

How soon do the sites typically book up at Canyon Village Campground? We're looking at staying mid to late June. We previously stayed at Madison Campground and I booked with no problem in late April, but this seems to be a really popular place. Should we go ahead and book now?
