In our year of travel, we splurged a bit for a long weekend stay at Riverside to celebrate my partner's birthday, and it was SO worth every penny! The friendly staff took excellent care of us, and we were kindly upgraded to a spacious, well-appointed...More

We visited for 3 nights during the New Year celebrations in town, which is not a good time to be in Vang Vieng, with karaoke music blaring across the river. Apparently it is usually much more peaceful. The Riverside boutique resort is beautiful, with a...More

Yes, we took a private transfer from the Riverside to Luang Prabang. It was quite expensive and probably not worth it if I'm honest. The hotel were surprised that we wanted a private transfer when they offer a minibus service themselves. I'd go for this option instead as the journey time is not significantly reduced with a private transfer. It took about 7 hours door to door with a couple of quick stops on the way. The journey is beautiful and you see a lot of 'real' Laos along the way, and a lot of different geography from flat plains to windy mountain roads.
Honestly though, I'd take the hotel minibus over a private transfer. It will save you money and not take much longer.
