First, like several other reviewers, let's be honest. This is a perfect place for certain kinds of people, and a perfect nightmare for others. If you need luxury, 24-hour a day electricity, smooth sailing, a masseuse and nail salon, find another place. You will hate Tak'alik. But, if you love off the road adventures, something new and different, give this...

We had a group that required 3 rooms, and at the time we needed them, there were not enough available at the Lodge part of the facility. So we stayed at the coffee plantation part. It was the exact opposite of how a prior reviewer described the Lodge. The setting was very beautiful but in all other regards it was...

Stayed here with my wife and a friend on 17 February 2014. Beautiful jungle environs. Road to the resort is a two kilometer-long; bone jarring mess. I almost wished that I had walked. We were charged $32,50 per person without breakfast. For that price we received a small bungalow (room 8) with a cratered double mattress covered by a thin...

The first night I stayed there was a bit scary because it is in the middle of the jungle, very dark, and you hear all kinds of strange animals you normally don't hear in the city. Lights go out at 10 and all you have is candles. In the morning... You're woken up by birds, you are served a traditional...

Tak'alik Maya Lodge is a great example of lodging that's perfect for its location. If you're staying in the jungle, a luxury hotel would be out of place. Simpler lodgings are what fit the bill. The road to Tak'alik Maya Lodge is quite rutted, and it took some time to get the several kilometres into the lodge area. Once we...

We stayed there just one night-- arrived mid-afternoon and hiked down to the waterfall, then watched the birds from the Mirador which overlooks a beautifully forested ravine. Six of us shared two 3-bed rooms, each with a great little balcony from which we enjoyed the jungle sounds at dusk. The staff was really great-- very attentive and nice. Not sure...

The hotel lies on a hill in a protected tropical jungle. The restaurant and part of the rooms are on the top of the hill. The swimming pool the main part of the rooms and the coffee processing plant are on the lower part of the hill. It takes 15 minutes and some energy to reach the restaurant. The air...

Tough to review this. If you are vested in all the creature comforts of a first world resort you will be disappointed. However, if you fancy exotic, off the map adventures this is a great spot. The owners have transferred an old coffee plantation into a sustainable lodge, restaurant and grounds. Our room by the old church was cabin like....

I loved the charm and quaint accommodations of this eco-lodge. The rooms are very basic but clean, the swimming pool is nice on a hot day, and the courtyard scene is traditional finca. The power is supplied by an antique water wheel, and they shut the electricity off at 9 pm or so. I chose a room with a shared...

“If you want to be near the restaurant you should choose the "cacique maya" rooms, which cost al little bit more than the others. If you want to be near the pool and like to walk 15 minutes upstairs, you should choose the "paseo del cafe" rooms.”
