It is all in your perspective. If you think of Selva Negra as a farm that you can visit as a paid guest, then it is a great experience. If you are looking for a hotel or resort experience, it is good but needs improvement. Wife and I and 3 1/2 y.o. son enjoyed the coffee tour, the farm tour,...

We stopped off at Selva Negra after going for a walk in Reserva Cerro el Arenal and wished we hadn't bothered. It was $13 dollars for 2 of us to get in for we got some credit in the restaurant, although not enough credit for us both to have a coffee & a slice of cake which by Nicaragua standards...

While the location was beautiful, it was a bit dark for my taste, as opposed to the lodges further into the cloud forests. Our cabin, however, was nice and the jungle bountiful. We were, however, there at peak Christmas season. Therefore, many of the local Nicaraguans were there on vacation with families - i.e., it was very busy. In fact,...

If you saw Dirty Dancing, then you can imagine the restaurant and visitor center. Go to see the chapel. Take a hike in the jungle. Meet the proprietor, a visionary. I never got the history of their tank.

First off, there are a number of things that are lovely about this place. The grounds are enjoyable to walk around -- they’re a little less tame than in Costa Rica. The cabins have plants growing on the roofs and you can hear creatures scampering overhead at night (I liked it but some people might not). The cabins are quaint,...

We didn't stay at the resort but the reserve doesn't have it's own page. Doing this as a day trip from Matagalpa is easy: Get the Jinotega bus from Cotran Sur station (they run every half hour) and ask to be let off at Selva Negra. It's about 25 minutes and 13c. Then walk just over 1km through the coffee...

This is not just a resort. It is a major organic coffee farm, a working farm that provides food for the restaurant, food and housing provided for over 200 coffee farm employees, school for the children, interdenominational church for weddings, reception facilities, etc. Selva Negra is actively involved in improving the lives of their employees and the community. A must!

The location of Selva Negra is extremely unique and lovely. That being said... The bungalows can be quite noisy with noises from neighbors traveling in. Some of the tours are not worth it. My husband and I only really enjoyed the coffee tour. We hiked all the trails during our 3 day stay. The short ones are cleared, but the...

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is very peaceful, the rooms are not fully equipped, noise from other rooms can be heard. The view from the restaurant is notable, the food is average, the service takes a bit. At the reception, they are unfriendly, they speak english almost all the staff. The hotel is for someone...

I lived in Nicaragua for several years and visited this place often. The food is fabulous, the service is OK. The rooms are plentiful and diverse, something for everyone. Stay in your own private chalet, it's fantastic. We did the horseback tour several times, and go hiking if you can. The weather is cool, 70-80 in the day, 50-60 at...
