Our trip to Selva Negra was overall pleasant! Deep in the nature. We had a 4 nights stay, in the "hotel style" accomodation (Laguna). Rooms were big, bed super confortable, with nice shower. Bungalows were much more expensive and hotel was perfect, so if budget is important for you, you should totally for the hotel style. Restaurant from the place...

We started the morning with a tour of the coffee plantation and we were having such a nice experience we decided to stay for the night! We rented a cabana and went for a 4 km hike on their vast trail system. Everything from a gentle walk to difficult - a 700 foot elevation climb. Dinner at the restaurant was...

We came because we wanted to learn about how coffee is produced. Our local tour guide was excellent and the tour well organised and interesting. Our accommodation chalet was clean, fairly spacious and comfortable, but even though we were visiting in dry season, the dense surrounding vegetation and plant covered roof meant the room was a little musty and damp...

there are a growing number of "eco-resorts" throughout Central America. Selva Negra is the real deal. Started in the 1890's, this combination of biological reserve, organic coffee plantation and hotel/resort predates all of them by at least 30 years. Current owners Eddy and Mausi Kuhl are descendants of the original owner Otto Kuhl and the property has been in family...

My wife and I stayed at Selva Negra with 2 adult friends and our 7-month-old son for 2 nights in February. We loved the laid back environment with its animal life, cool temperatures, and unique approach to farming, cooking, and hospitality. The grounds were beautiful, with paved and wooded trails winding throughout. The hiking offered a wide variety of terrain,...

We spent a day and a half at Silva Negra with our mission team. After 5 days of working in a small village we were ready to leave our "0-star" hotel and experience Silva Negra. The food at the restaurant was good - we had our fill of rice, beans and plantains in the village. The coffee tour was excellent...

It is all in your perspective. If you think of Selva Negra as a farm that you can visit as a paid guest, then it is a great experience. If you are looking for a hotel or resort experience, it is good but needs improvement. Wife and I and 3 1/2 y.o. son enjoyed the coffee tour, the farm tour,...

We stopped off at Selva Negra after going for a walk in Reserva Cerro el Arenal and wished we hadn't bothered. It was $13 dollars for 2 of us to get in for we got some credit in the restaurant, although not enough credit for us both to have a coffee & a slice of cake which by Nicaragua standards...

Lisa, I would like to thank you for your review and appreciate the opportunity to address some of these issues. I'm sorry that your stay with us was disappointing. Our entrance fee is C$100 flat fee or C$200 consumable, which means that you can use it towards the payment of any food or service at the hotel and restaurant. Our...

While the location was beautiful, it was a bit dark for my taste, as opposed to the lodges further into the cloud forests. Our cabin, however, was nice and the jungle bountiful. We were, however, there at peak Christmas season. Therefore, many of the local Nicaraguans were there on vacation with families - i.e., it was very busy. In fact,...
