The "Tour du Monde" is an immersion in the trip. All places and every space is a "journey" through the five continents: from the bedroom to the bathroom through the travel lodge and until the forest and tropical garden. The guest house is situated on a hill with panoramic views of mountains and valleys leading to the lagoon to the horizon. All accommodation are possible: guest room with shared bathroom, bedroom with privat shower, fully equipped cottage with kitchen for longer stays. Free WiFi. Free luggage pool and jakusi. Many tips for organizing tours on the mainland, Isle of Pines and Islands loyalty. Table d'hôtes access (23.46 euros / person) and breakfast (8.38 euros): meal only composed of local dishes. From the cottages easy access to visit all the major sites of the south of the mainland. 20 minutes from Noumea. Reception on arrival of flights of nights. Organization of transfers and link with car rental agencies reduced rates if hosted at the cottage.

We had a great week at tour du monde. It has a really charming atmosphere with world travellers and terrific hosts Jean Claude and Dan creating an establishment garnered from many years of world travel. They know what independent travellers want and what they need. The individual bungalows allow self catering and all have a large deck on which to sip red wine and sample local fromage. If you choose them , the evening meals are healthy , tasty and great value - if you like bring some wine to share. For 2 Australian tourists with no French , New Caledonia as gorgeous as it is, can be quite a challenging place. Jean Claude and Dan were extremely helpful with critical information which ensured we saw what we wanted to see. The outdoor toilets were a very minor inconvenience- with showers in every room. If you do choose to come you will need to rent a car and if you are a non French speaker getting to tour du monde is a bit tricky- despite visual instructions provided- it may be worth installing google maps before you arrive or possibly getting a car with a gps?( also clean your car before return) Also I would suggest avoiding driving around New Caledonia by night if possible and of being aware of potential traffic jams getting into Nouméa in the early morning. Tour du monde is a great ( and exceptionally affordable ) base from which to explore a truly beautiful little country

Our family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) enjoyed an 8-night stay at Tour du Monde in January 2019. Being outside Noumea and in the hills was perfect. We could easily get to the Blue River Park and Red South without going through Noumea, the Dumbea River was 10 mins away, and it was easy to get into Noumea for access to islands for day trips when we wanted to. We had a hire car. Jean Claude and Dan made us feel very welcome. JC helped us with maps, planning, and information. Dan was very hospitable and cooked a delicious dinner with local ingredients on our last night. We had two adjoining houses/huts/cabins for our stay, each catering for 2 people, but since they were connected it was like 1 bigger cabin. The rooms are each decorated in a style from JC and Dan's various world expeditions, so there is a very pleasant vibe to the place. The beds were fine, and there was a little kitchen that we used a few times. From the kitchen we could see plenty of trees (including mango trees) and there was a deck outside for drying the swimming/snorkelling gear, towels, and river boots. While we were there the pool was being repaired, so we were not able to use it. This wasn't a big deal as we were pretty busy most days with various activities. Each day there was visible progress on the pool repairs, and by the time we left it was up and running again. Didn't need the air conditioner as nights were pleasantly cool. Sleep quality could have been improved by adding netting to the windows. We had a very enjoyable stay, and appreciate the help and advice given to us by JC and Dan. Merci!

We really enjoyed our 7 day stay at Tour du Monde. I particularly loved eating on the little deck outside our cabin surrounded by trees and views of the surrounding hills. The little kitchen was perfectly adequate for cooking meals. We ate at the table d'hote twice and it was delicious and we enjoyed the company. We decided not to hire a car and found the local buses to be reliable, good and easy to use. Yes, it is 40 minutes from the centre of Noumea but it's a nice trip and we experienced more of the local community. Dan was the perfect host - unobtrusive but there when you needed him. He generously offered to drop us at the river nearby and took us on his shopping expedition one Saturday morning. I am a neurotic passenger but I felt very safe with his driving. He also spoke very clear slow French. I was despairing I would ever understand anyone so he was a wonderful morale booster. From my experience I would highly recommend staying at Tour du Monde. Staying there for the week certainly helped to make our trip to New Caledonia more affordable!

Our hosts were very friendly, welcoming and super helpful. We, a family with two kids age 9 and 11, stayed for 5 nights at the beginning of our trip and managed to fit in an extra night one week later before flying home. Both the chalets we stayed in were very comfortable and had everything we needed to cook for ourselves each night. We would definitely like to go back and thank Dan for all his help and useful tips to organise our trip through New Caledonia.

We stayed here for six nights and it really helped us better understand New Caledonia. The vibe is friendly and relaxed. We highly recommend the evening meal option prepared by Dan - the food is delicious and it is a great chance to hear from Jean Claude and Dan about life in New Caledonia and get some very useful travel tips. We enjoyed the chance to practice our French and meet other travellers. Each of the chalets has its own unique decor and we found our room very comfortable. There are plenty of spots around the property to read and relax. It is a 20 to 30 minute drive from Noumea and we did get lost numerous times although Tour du Monde itself is well sign posted. Highly recommended for those who want more than the standard hotel/resort experience and also very good value.

Staying at Tour du Monde was a great treat. The environment was purely magic. Dan and Claude were wonderful hosts. Dan was the most patient French tutor I have ever had. Should I return to New Caledonia, I would definitely return to Tour du Monde.

We stayed with Dan and Jean Claude for 2 nights and had a great time. The accommodation was really comfortable and unique. The property is beautiful and is full of objects from around the world. We also rented camping equipment for a week which was a much more affordable way to see New Caledonia. Dan gave us loads of useful information to help plan our journey and Jean Claude was so helpful with regard to an issue we had with Europcar. We would highly recommend staying at Tour du Monde, thank you again for your hospitality and the delicious meal.

We loved our time at Tour du Monde; the rooms are charmingly eccentric; the location perfect; the dinner's delicious; and the price is right. People who don't speak French may feel a bit at sea but Jean and Dan and the other guests work hard to make you feel at home. They only missed "Excellent" because of the breakfast; we knew it would be continental but expected more than white bread and fake fruit juice.

We are very attentive to your feedback to continually improve the service. Regarding the bread, it is unlimited: just ask. As for the juice, note that breakfast is 880 CFP (7 euros) - the average of a breakfast in New Caledonia is 10 euros or more; we serve fresh fruit juice but would increase the cost and we always try to make it accessible to more people, the host table: it is always difficult to find a balance, should always compare what is comparable Anyway, thank you for your comments, we will seek an intermediate response.

Staying at Tour du Monde gives you a completely different experience of New Caledonia to staying in a hotel. The rooms are colourful and full of character, the hosts, Jean Claude and Dan, are warm and welcoming, and the view is superb. We enjoyed the communal meals where you can chat with the hosts (French is an advantage here) and the other guests, and the food was local, seasonal and delicious. Jean Claude and Dan can help with car hire, transfers, planning your itinerary or daily schedule and even organise camping equipment or a picnic lunch, with some notice. My only word of warning; arrive during daylight hours. The roads are very dark and not well sign-posted. If you prefer to be a "traveller" rather than a "tourist", this is the place for you!

For those who do not want their experience of Nouvelle-Calédonie to be "packaged", Gîte Tour du Monde is a must. We started and ended our DIY 12 day camping holiday at Tour du Monde and it was a perfect location for doing so (provided you have a rent-a-car). The Gîte is situated between Tontouta Airport and Nouméa, closer to the latter (about a half hour drive). It definitely makes sense renting a car in NC if you can afford it. You will ultimately save time and money. You need your own wheels for getting to the best places. My wife and I were touched by the warmth of our two hosts, Dan and Jean Claude. I can't thank them enough for the invaluable travel advice they gave, the assistance they provided when things went wrong (with a certain car rental company) as well as the generosity they showed in supplying us with a blanket and an extra cooking pot for camping. They bent over backwards to help us. I loved the table d'hôte - dining with our hosts and fellow guests for the nights we stayed - a pleasant culinary/cultural experience amongst a diverse range of people. And don't worry non-French speakers, the company is always multilingual. Dan's cooking was delicious. The funky chalets are simple, clean and comfortable with mountain views. The garden is very pretty. Whether you choose accommodation only, demi-pension or bed and evening meal, you'll get good value. Thank you Dan and Jean Claude. What beautiful people you are. You are experienced travellers and instinctively understand what we were looking for. We hope to be back again. One of the best places we have ever stayed in our own "tour du monde". Nous vous remercions mille fois pour votre hospitalité et la gentillesse
