I had a great time at the hostel :) the staff people and Sarah the manager are really nice, welcoming and they told me a lot of recommendations about what to do around the area. The rooms are big enough and clean. The living area is cosy and they have a nice movie collection. From the terrace you have the...

Very nice and clean hostel with good equipped kitchen, nice view over the mountain, outdoor and inside sitting places, close walking distance to town. Very friendly at the phone to book and helpfull with information about bars and day trips (thanks a lot for the tip of half day cycling tour, I enjoyed it a lot). Changed ownership last year,...

The Mountainview Backpackers is a really nice and cozy Hostel, with a very good view, comfortable outdoor area and a cozy common room with sofas, TV and plenty of movies to watch. The Manager and Staff are really friendly and very helpful. Short walk to the lake and center. If I would come back to Wanaka, I would stay there...

Mountain View is certainly the cleanest backpackers I've used. It's a lovely privately owned and run backpackers. The couple who own it do everything themselves and you can tell take some much pride in their business!! I regularly recommend this hostel to people who are visiting Wanaka! Thanks for the stay guys!

After changing hands in ownership, Mountain View Backpackers gives off a warm homely vibe, with friendly staff, especially Sarah who even went out of her way to return our lost property after we left! Comfy beds, cosy communal area with a social atmosphere, with a huge selection of DVDs to watch, board games and books! Providing information about the local...

Was worried about staying here after reading the reviews, but I guess there was a change of ownership and a completely new staff. Found everything to be just fine, friendly, and well-managed. No key deposit, plenty of Wi-Fi, reasonably quiet, etc. The in-town location is a must, as the center of Wanaka is so lively. Just a 3min walk to...

This was not our first choice of accommodation but at least we had a bed. Our dorm was extremely cramped, on the top bunk you had to remember not to sit up fast or you would bash your head on the ceiling. Beds were shakey and there was virtually no space to put bags as there were some very awkwardly...

To start with, this is not homely! There are far too may people for that. It's too small for the amount of people here. Kitchen is small, and there NO OVEN! bought two pizzas without checking and I had to chuck them. At capacity it can't fit everyone in the common area and there's several long stays so the atmosphere...

If everything else is full and you really need somewhere to stay, this place will be OK for a night. Conveniently located close to the shops, bars and the lake front, this is its best feature, and shouldn't be under-rated. You are literally 6 minutes walk from the centre of action, and in the morning the view across town to...

The owner was very nice and answered any questions we had. Rooms were clean and so was the kitchen. The kitchen had many tools that most kitchens don't have. Nice relaxing lounge and also a great yard. The only thing that bothered me a little bit was the mixed shared bathroom. Wish there was a separate bathroom for men and...
