We were looking to stay at a charming boutique hotel instead of a big-resort experience, and we're so glad we found the Zanzibar House. We met the nicest people, and Georgia, the daughter of the owner, did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable... we were treated like her family! The food (lots of fresh-caught fish) and the service were...

Our family spent 5 days at this amazing place and absolutely loved it! What made the difference between a nice and an excellent experience is the most friendly, accommodating and hospitable staff, especially the host Georgia. There was not one request that was too much trouble. Zanzibar house is quite small with only 6 rooms and that almost makes it...

Great family-run hotel on a beautiful beach. Friendly cats too! Don't miss the massage on the hut overlooking the beach with the sea air to cool you down. And explore the village using the bikes! We also went on a boat trip one day for snorkelling/diving which was great.

Stayed here for 5 nights with my family and granddaughter from 120217. A lovely peaceful, restful location right on the beach, not the place to go if you want lots of activities during the day and nighttime entertainment. A family run hotel with just 7 rooms, very friendly helpful staff, and everything always done with a smile. The owner supervises the...

We strongly recommend Zanzibar House to anyone who wants to spend their holiday on Zanzibar Island! Best value for the money! I spent here with my wife 14 nights, from 6-19.01.2017 and didn't have time to get bored! :-) The hotel is decorated in traditionally Zanzibary style and is located in Matemwe, a quiet part of Zanzibar Island. The beach...

I spent my end of January vacation at Zanzibar House. The boutique hotel is simply stunning! Seven rooms - originally designed for the owners' family- in a fantastic design, doing an excellent job in preserving the typical Zanzibar architecture and spirit. Service is impeccable, with authentic Italian dinner (home made pasta, the real thing...) served every evening at 8, which...

We came here for 5 nights after climbing mount Kikimanjaro. It was just what we needed. A small quiet hotel right on the beach. Room 3 was in the middle of the upstairs rooms and looked straight out over the ocean. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and every where was kept very tidy. The Italian owner took...

This was a WONDERFUL experience for my son and I. We traveled with friends in March of 2016, and from start to finish the hosts at Zanzibar house were awesome. It is a family home that they converted into a seaside boutique hotel. The rooms are a descent size with comfy beds. There is air conditioning and private bath and...

We spent four nights with our two kids after our stop at Jambiani. We had a great relaxing time. The resort is on the beach, which when the tide is low offers opportunities for long walks. Food is excellent and the chef as you would imagine in a boutique hotel owned and run by an Italian family. All staff are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Zanzibar House is a 7 room privately owned and ran boutique hotel situated in the beautiful location of Matemwe on the North East coast of the island, about 40km from Stone Town. The hotel opened its doors in December 2012. The materials used in the construction are found in Zanzibar, with a traditional Makuti roof, decorated with Maritaki patterns, in harmony with the nature and not to disrupt the beautiful landscape. Zanzibar House offers its guests 7 rooms. 5 Rooms with sea view and 2 have views over the rich vegetation that surrounds the area. Four posters Queen size beds in every room. Extra beds and baby cots are available upon request. Satellite TV, complimentary WIFI, minibar, air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities are few of the amenities found in the rooms. Each and every room has a large terrace from where to enjoy the breathtaking views. The restaurant offers delicacies of international and local cuisine with extra care put into the selection of the produce, respecting the seasons and what is available in the market. The full licensed bar offers a selection of local beers, world reknown spirits brands, cocktails and much more all to be enjoyed in the porch overlooking the Indian Ocean. During the day guests are pampered by the carefully picked staff and presented with nibbles to accompany the passing hours; seasonal fruit skewers, spiced tea or coffee in the afternoon, home made savory or sweet treats according to the inspiration of the chef. Special efforts were made in choosing and making of the decorative details found across the house. All the doors were made with coconut wood, found in plentiful supply on the island; the wood was carved by a skilled carpenter in Stone Town with traditional Zanzibar motives, the floors are made of Galana, a local stone, the material used for the walls and structure is called Choka, the island's version of cement. A full menu of massages and treatments available all day along and tailor made solutions, such as custom made excursions, insiders tips to fully and responsably experience the magic of the island make of Zanzibar House an oasis of peace and tranquility, the perfect destination where to get rid of the stress of everyday's life and regenerate the senses with attentive to detail service never losing the essence and the warmth of African hospitality to make you feel truly welcomed at home. ... more   less
