Delightful welcoming staff on reception. The building is fabulous. Nice large rooms with a lovely bathroom although personally I prefer a walk in shower to a bath. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice although we did feel the staff could have been more accommodating by explaining that eggs could be cooked or that toast was available. My biggest complaint is that the hotel, obviously being high up, has no surrounding restaurants within walking distance so it would be good if the hotel restaurant was open daily for dinner. I am unsure when it is open but definitely closed on a Sunday when there are no restaurants open in town ( they mostly close at 3pm) We did have Tosta Mista at night there, but they were all delivered to us at different times (after an extremely long wait ) They were not good.

What a wonderful relaxing space. A converted castle overlooking the river … cool as a cucumber inside. Tasteful rooms (we like the junior suite overlooking the river). Gentle and welcoming staff. Only complaint was that we were “between seasons” and there was no heat or air conditioning. Our room was like an oven when we arrived (hot and tired from a long day’s trip) and there were only five rooms occupied at the castle. they knew we were coming. I would have opened the doors in the two rooms to allow some air to circulate.

This Hotel managed to create an almost luxury ambiance while integrating as much as possible the history traits of the place it sits on! If you take the time to visit the Crypt underneath the Castle/Hotel, you get a glimpse of how much work went into making this what it is today, with an unbelievable transformation. Rooms are great (I stayed at a Suite as we were 2 adults + 2 Children), staff is always available, helpful and welcoming. Only less positive aspect I'd mention is the prices in the restaurant which are hard to understand, but with the number of restaurants in the general area, there's no issue finding spots to eat. This is a pity.

You expect to have some quality when you pay 380 euros for a room, for a night. The Hotel is very beat up with a decoration that is well bellow average in the materials used and conservation of the same. At arrival you have a little reception to the left that seems like the reception of the local village recreation public club, with one person and very poor decoration. You expectations immediately drop as you realize this will not be what you expected. Then they give you a key and you notice the key chain is dirty and beat up like you picked it up from the street and had been sitting up there for years. You get to the room and the furniture is old, beat up and the decoration is well bellow what expected. The coffee machine had mildew in the water deposit. You could see the green clearly. There was barely any water inside and the deposit had stains of green at the bottom. It stopped us from using that Nespresso coffee machine. At breakfast, we had to wait for croissants and as they were coming they would be taken to a table that seemed it was the owners table as all guests were waiting for food but it kept going to that table before going to the general buffet tables. The choice was very little. Had to wait for scrambled eggs for at least 20 minutes after complaining. The orange juice was squeezed but had so much water mixed that tasted like one of those instant package juices. The room with at least 20 tables was attended by one employer and sometimes another assistant would show up. The poor man was sweating. At departure we wanted to see the chapel that was part of the Hotel/Convent and once inside we realized it had been converted into an event room. There was no altar or chairs, and all that remained was the walls around it and the tombs on the floor. Other than that, two circular tables leaned against a wall which reveled there were events organized there. Overall, they have turned what could be a five star experience and atmosphere as well as cultural visit, into something "never to return to". For sure not worth the 380 euros price.

We thought we were going for a treat at the end of our holidays. The place is beautiful, with amazing views and a fairy tale setting. However, the service is sparse and not particularly friendly. On arrival we requested suggestions for dinner, and were “encouraged” to have dinner at the hotel. While we knew that was a possibility, we didn’t think it was honest to not be given additional options. A quick google search took us to a much more appealing and certainly less expensive restaurant (Salinas, fantastic, review to follow on that too). A trip to the bar by the pool revealed one young and timid bartender, and after a good 30 min we finally got our drinks (there was no one else, I am not sure what took so long!). Rooms were fine, if a little bare… the whole place could use some warmth, as it feels almost like a museum. We saw two employees the whole afternoon: one at reception and one at the bar. Felt very strange.
Breakfast was maybe the biggest disappointment. We were waved from a distance to come in to the dining room but never shown our table, as every table was set for only two people (there were 4 of us). We had to wander and ask again where to sit, and again impatiently waved into a corner table with 3 chairs. We helped ourselves to a 4th. We were served coffee and orange juice (once, never offered refills or top ups), some fruit, a basket of assorted bread and butter. A platter came with cheese and meats: 2 slices of queijo fresco, a couple of slices of ham, 1 slice of prosciutto. For 4 people. A couple of jars of jam too.
Then one small saucer with three (3!) mini-pastries (sample size). There were 4 of us!
At some point we were asked if we wanted eggs, and before I could answer the waiter was already a good 6 feet away, looking elswhere. I shouted that 3 of us did, and he brought 3 saucers with *cold* scrambled eggs. No salt or pepper (I asked someone else for that).
We left feeling taken advantage of. This place charges an obscene nightly rate, for absolutely nothing. Significanty more expensive than outstanding 5 star hotels in central Lisbon or Porto. I have stayed in 2 and 3 star hotels in many places where I was served better. They are clearly understaffed and likely stressed, but to keep the prices at these rates (nearly €500 for 2 rooms) felt like an insult. Very much regretted this expense. Will not return, and will not recommend.

Given the prices charged, it is regretted that the services are not excellent. Cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately the restaurant does not open at lunch time. The poolside bar only opens at 1pm, with a reduced menu and even with some items missing (due to lack of staff, according to information). There are no employees to support the indoor bars, having to request their diversion from other services, which leads to ridiculous scenes of lack of knowledge on how to serve drinks. Very poor sound insulation. Room furniture worthy of a 3rd category pension.

We were really looking forward to our holiday in Palmela but Pestana informed us less than 2 weeks before our holiday that Palmela was being renovated so would we accept Poussada Alcacer del Sol. As our flights were booked we had little choice. However Pestana upgraded us to a 'Classic Family Room. On the web site and the room looked really good.
We arrived at after midnight, so were very tired after a long drive. Our room was not upgraded and when I asked the receptionist he said that the classic were no different from the room we had. An absolute lie and one of the cleaners and another receptionist showed us a classic family room. Why do certain individuals seem to delight in spoiling peoples holidays. Our room, 305, never saw sunlight on our balcony. That said the hotel was superb and all of the staff (except the resident liar) were excellent. The breakfasts were good and dinner in the hotel is worth at least one visit . Locally the town of Alcacer was superb, lovely walks, nice restaurants and no hastle from locals trying to entice you to eat in their restaurant.
We would visit again but not sure if I could manage to be civil to an individual who appears to enjoy misusing his appointment.

An excellent welcome from the reception and then directed to a small restaurant 5 minutes away whilst our room was being prepared. It was comfortable and quiet and the buffet breakfast was fine...although the toasters never seem to function well anywhere and you end up with hard un-toasted bread...this needs attention! It would be nice to see the castle utilised more, with perhaps market stalls and various events for day trippers to the area. It looks as if it is currently used for Conferences and Weddings, but they could do so much more! There really is nothing much in the area. The river and views are of course beautiful.

What is there not to like at this beautifully designed Pousada? The way they have incorporated the modern design of this very comfortable hotel accommodation into the remaining fabric of the original remaining castle structure is not only clever but in my humble opinion very impressive. It is hard to see the joins as they say. Top quality, modern spacious rooms with some impressive views, very comfortable beds plus a superb restaurant for both dinner and generous buffet breakfast. I would definitely recommend it as a base for exploring the surrounding area and for what amenities are on offer, it is great value for money.

When we decided to go to Badoca Park, we wanted to rest before returning to Lisbon and enjoy exploring a city we didn't know. Alcacer do Sal was that place. The choice of the hotel was obvious, located in the city's castle, with a fantastic view over the city and the river, the kids would love it. The hotel's location is without a doubt magnificent and the surroundings are inspiring. Throughout the hotel there are artefacts discovered during the restoration work and under the hotel there is even a museum crypt that should be visited. The room was huge, with a living room with a sofa, where they placed the extra bed (and where we placed the crib too) and a good-sized bedroom. Both the bedroom and the living room had a view over the castle walls, the city and the river. The hotel had two swimming pools and a garden along the walls. Breakfast had a lot of variety and quality, always with different products on the days we were there. Dinners at the hotel were also of great quality. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

We stayed in the hotel but did not eat in the restaurant. However, based on our observation, I would think it would be no problem to dine in the restaurant even if you aren't staying at the hotel. When we were there, it was pretty quiet and seemed easy to walk in and eat. But you could also get a reservation in advance.
