We have just returned from a two night stay at the delightful Heath Close. The house is absolutely stunning and our room (Cornwall) was just perfect with everything you could wish for but with a luxurious touch. We also had dinner both evenings, the food was fantastic and it's a long while since we've had such fresh vegetables. The surroundings in the dining room and lounge are just so relaxing, you just feel like you want to spend all evening sunk in one of the lovely squashy sofas with a glass of wine ! As for the beautiful garden, its just perfect. All of this makes for lovely surroundings to spend a lazy weekend in lovely Budleigh Salterton, but what is the icing on the cake,is the welcome you are given by Eileen and Graham, they are the nicest couple you could wish to meet, nothing is too much for them to make your stay the best ever, and their warmth and kindness will stay with us for years to come. If you are visiting this part of east Devon, you really should stay at Heath close, you will not be disappointed, it's an absolute gem.

We are a family of four and stayed for a couple of nights in August. Graham and Eileen are the perfect hosts. They couldn't have done more for us and their hospitality is exceptional. The full english breakfast was excellent and they are very welcoming to fussy eaters. The house was spotlessly clean. We had a large room with adjoining room for children. Both rooms were spacious and immaculate. They could not have done more for us. We will definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

We have just returned from three amazing nights at beautiful Heath Close. This was our fourth visit, and it just gets better and better every time ! Eileen and Graham are the perfect hosts in every way; there are just not enough words to convey their kindness and genuine desire to make sure you have a lovely time at Heath Close. It's just so quiet, peaceful and relaxing, and with the beautiful house and garden, the lovely surroundings within the house and rooms, everything is just perfect, if we could give Heath Close six stars we would !!! Budleigh is such a stunning place to spend a quiet weekend break, and staying at Heath Close is the icing on on the cake. Oh, and did I mention the breakfasts !!! truly the best we have ever had , everything is so fresh and beautifully presented, there is NOTHING that can be criticised .

Thank you Eileen and Graham for making our stay so wonderful, and we look forward to seeing you next June, Elaine and Paul xx

Well, either this B&B has changed hands or we visited on a VERY off day! Our arrival after a couple of terse telephone calls with the owner started fine with being shown to a well appointed room in the annexe with a fabulous bathroom. We had specifically chosen an establishment with easy access as I am mobility impaired, a very large bed and equally capacious bathroom. Within two hours we were on way back home!

We were greeted with the news that the heating was not working but that they had provided us with a somewhat dusty auxiliary heater which did warm the room, but did not operate the underfloor heating in the bathroom. We then had to report a major leak coming from the sink and a toilet blockage to the owner (by telephone) and were offered either a bucket to put under the sink, or a room in the main house that was a small double, with a small double bed and equally small bathroom and accessed by 14 stairs (the climbing of which resembles climbing Mount Everest to me). We declined this room and asked if the adjoining room to ours in the annexe was available only to be told it had not been made up! How long would this have taken? It could surely have been done whilst we went out for our evening meal.

We were left with no alternative but to return home with the feeling that customer service did not rate highly on this man’s agenda. He did not even come to look at the problem in the bathroom, much less go out of his way to accommodate us.

To add insult to injury – he then left a voicemail saying he would still be charging us as we had not given 48 hours of cancellation! We DID not cancel. We turned up!

£95 a night to stay in a room with a blocked up toilet and with a bucket under the sink – I think not!!!

Heath Close is situated on a quiet and very exclusive side road (with no through traffic) just off the main road on the outskirts of Budleigh Salterton. The main house is lovely but, having been shown its facilities, it felt a little disappointing to be immediately shuffled off to the annex at the bottom of the drive. The room (Dorset) was pleasant and comfortable although we somehow felt as though we were staying in a very nicely converted garage rather than the plush main house. We were also a little miffed that the main lights failed in the evening and all the power, other than the main lights, in the morning. This could not be rectified until the people next door were up as the fuse box was in their room. None of this was a serious problem but it took the shine of our stay.

Breakfast was excellent!

Not at all meeting the announcements on the web. Had to wait nearly an hour, although arriving at the stated times. No beforehand information via email etc. as was wont from others locations. Curt and not at all warm welcome. Cats all over the grounds and in the house and even in our room. As we are allergetic against cats we wouldn't have chosen this b&b, if we had been informed beforehand. Hosts didn't seem interested in our concerns but only about their own regulations. Door lock not functioning, so cats could getninto our room. Furniture and windows in bad disrepair. Horrible matresses, had backaches in the morning. No cream tea on arrival day, only by prior ordering at least a day before. The breakfast was the only positive thing we encountered. The high room rate was in stark contrast to the delivered services. Not recommendable.

I'm sorry to strike a sour note when almost all of the other reviews are so positive but I"m still very annoyed about our stay. I rang in February to make a reservation for 2 nights in May at the conclusion of a 10 day trip to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was told that, at that stage, there were no other reservations for the nights in question and so I could pick whichever room I wanted. The only rooms I was interested in were the Devon and the Cornwall as we preferred a king size bed, did not want to be in the annexe and were attracted by the double width shower. I chose the Cornwall. When we arrived, however, we were shown to the Wiltshire which has twin beds, is in the annexe and has a very small shower room. When I pointed out that we had booked the Cornwall, Eileen told me that they had not noted which room we had booked, that they had had a booking of 4 days and that the Cornwall was not now available. She apologised and we were offered the Cornwall for the second of our 2 nights. It was clear that the owners had chosen to breach their agreement with us rather than lose a 4 day booking. If they had not noted the room we had reserved, they had our email address and so could have checked with us. If they had made a mistake and accepted our booking after the Cornwall had already been booked, they could have told us as soon as they discovered their error and we would have transferred our booking to the Devon or, if that was not by then available, to another B&B which met our requirements. By the time we arrived, we had no alternative but to put up with and pay for a room we would never have chosen. We did move to the Cornwall on the second night, despite the inconvenience of having to unpack, pack and unpack again, in an attempt to redeem the situation. That room was fine and what we had expected. I agree with the comments that Eileen was pleasant and welcoming and that the property was clean and well cared for. Unfortunately that was not enough to compensate for not having the room we had reserved in February and instead being accommodated in a different room at the owners' convenience. My advice would be to check your reservation with the owners at intervals before you travel or just to book somewhere else.

We stayed for three nights. The room was very clean and comfortable. The en suite shower room was excellent. Breakfast each morning was served in a well appointed dining room overlooking the garden. A very impressive entrance hall. The proprietors were very friendly and welcoming.

Well what can I say..... this B&B is not your average B&B more like a mini-stately home. The decor in the main house and the two rooms we booked were fantastic. We had a wet room ensuite which was very spacious. My daughters room was a bit warm but we could leave the windows open at night as the area the house is in is so peaceful and quiet.
We absolutely loved our stay here. Both Eileen and Graham were fantastic and made us feel at home the minute we walked in. We were staying in Devon as my daughter was playing golf at the nearby golf club and we stayed for nearly a week.
There was a lovely lounge area that you could sit in during the day which was an added bonus so you didn't have to sit in your room when you returned back for the evening. Loads of books there about the area which made interesting reading.
Although I didn't go into the rear garden from the window it looked spacious and well maintained. I was always catching sight of Graham dead heading the flowers whilst Eileen was busy with the breakfasts!!!
Speaking of the breakfasts they were great, plentiful fruit salad with greek yogurt, then full cooked breakfast as well with any combination you wanted. Nothing was too much trouble.
I would not hesitate to book here again if we were in the area and I'd advise if your staying around this area it should be your first choice.
