This was a double birthday celebration.Eleven of us in total. The place was very busy and we had drinks in the bar prior to the meal. It was unfortunate that we had to get someone to come and take our orders after waiting along time. However, the girl was very apologetic. The starters are very large (I would probably have...

Food, wine & service was extremely good. Place was very busy but this did not affect the waiting time. Lovely atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Dined here several times, food always good but service has let it down in the past. Great to see so many diners & more waiting staff.!

This was the 1st time I visited The French Hen and what a lovely surprise. The atmosphere was great with the staff and food excellent, great to see the chef come out of his kitchen to ask If our food was to our liking and he was French. Well done guy's my partner and I WILL definitely return.

Looked at previous reviews and was a little worried about what it may be like. However, service has was good and food was tasty. The portions were massive but flavour didn't lack. Very enjoyable occasion

We went for Sunday lunch. The sun was shining and the setting lovely. Traditional Sunday lunch was the order of the day and didn't disappoint. We even had two lovely starters but dessert was a step too far thanks to the portion sizes. Staff lovely though the bar service could have been a little quicker with only one serving sometimes....

The menu promises so much but the food is of a poor standard . Rubbery scallops swimming in buttery water with pale undercooked bacon , how this can be described as a burnt butter sauce I just cannot comprehend.Same with the moules mariniere , the mussels shells were smashed , the sauce was overcooked so it split and it was...

Dropped into the French Hen last night got a table no waiting, that in itself should have rang alarm bells, the meal arrived my wife's steak was not cooked as requested and had to be sent back, I had chicken which was dry and minuscule to say the least, more like a chicken wing, the veg looked like it had come...

The evening menu does not start until 6pm, but the food was well worth waiting for. Prices are not cheap but reflect the quality instead. The choice is wide and if French food is to your liking then this place is for you. The various rooms have great character and the atmosphere is very relaxed and calm. The staff were...

Was amazed to be served something labelled "FAT SPREAD " instead of butter With my starter, and I have to say that that's exactly what it tasted of. How any resturaunt thinks that this is acceptable is beyond me, I told the waitress This and she was also surprised , but no one from management could be bothered to explain....

The staff are very welcoming and polite as soon as you walk through the door. The beer is superbly kept, with the two different ales we tried crystal clear and very drinkable. The fish in beer batter could not be bettered, very moist flaky fish as fresh as could be. The only let down was the chips not being homemade...
