Stopped here for dinner at 7.00pm with our two 5 year olds on the way back home after a lovely day at Longleat - a 2 hour drive still to go! Ordered our food 5 minutes later, and then after 15 minutes the Barmaid returned to tell us 1 of the items was not available so my husband had to...

Met my girlfriend here for a drink on Valentines day as we have been before and thought it was a lovely place. We decided to eat and could not have been more impressed! The service was great, the couple working there were so, so sweet and could not have been more helpful. As for the food... we decided to eat...

It is great to see the very positive reviews (almost gushing) from those who stayed It is such a cental building that success is important for the village. Whilst passing through I have now tried twice to have lunch with friends. First time, although the board outside said "Food all day" the lad at the bar said "No food". Fortuneately...

The staff , chef and management of the Old ship Inn are absolutely and totally horrified to receive such a negative and personal review on this forum. Especially as we have striven to obtain high standards of food and service alike. It also saddens us that this review has actually been written by a person who lives in Mere and...

Slightly unfair title as a) I'm only reviewing the food; b) it gives the impression that the whole thing's a bit Fawlty Towers when it's not, and c) about the only thing wrong with the food when we ate last August was that the kids' mash was swimming in butter. Apart for that all was excellent with our dinner and...

Had a good lunch here. Owners are rightly proud of the locally sourced produce, try the ham, very tasty. Staff friendly and nice relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth a detour off the A303 for a decent meal.

Lovely Inn in new hand I think. Fresh paintwork and fantastic breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. If your visiting Longleat then this is a great place to stay, it's close, family friendly and the food is great. Lovely building and more personal than the usual Premier Inn with very large family rooms. We'll stop here again.

Booked this for my partner's birthday trip to Stourhead, somewhere we both had always wanted to visit. Looked interesting from the internet and VERY close to Stourhead, but what a treat when we got there! Not only is Mere a lovely place to visit with the loveliest of people, but The Old Ship Inn surpassed all expectations. What a gem...

We passed through Mere on the way to Devon and stopped on the off-chance just out of season. This is under relatively new management and I wish the family well. They were very friendly and have worked hard to refurbish this lovely old hotel. Our room was very reasonably priced and perfectly comfortable with a bathroom to die for. We...

“Room 8 has a low double bed and two singles, the bathroom is large with a bath & a hand held shower however we all took the time to bathe and wrap up in the large fluffy towels so it was no hardship! It's right at the top of the building with lovely original beams..easy paced stairs”
