We had read many negative reviews regarding how old this hotel is and its upkeep, so we were sceptical. But we are glad we took the risk. We were in the top room, which was spacious and clean with lovely views of rolling hills.. There is room for touch ups of paintwork and window frames, The creaky floorboards and general...

So you decide it would be fun to stay in a historic hotel to soak in all that history. Old hotels require a lot of upkeep, to match the standard of modern accommodation. A lot of money needs to spent on this hotel. Décor dates probably from the 1950's as far as carpet and furnishings. Tiny rooms, lack of amenities,...

Despite reading previous reviews, we decided to take a chance on staying here as we'd heard it was haunted and wanted to see for ourselves! Ok, so it might be (as mentioned by others,) shabby chic but that in our opinion just adds to the attraction of the place! We can honestly stay that even if the wallpaper is dated...

My husband & I stayed for 2 nights. Our room was a king room small but very clean. Had a great bed! Bathroom was small but had a nice hot shower. It is an old hotel but has lots of charm. The hallways are pretty creepy, meant to be the most haunted hotel in N.Z. We did a bit of...

Rooms are very tired, a bath plug couldn't be found and I was given a face cloth and a small plus and told to make do. Do not order the fish of the day as it was uneatable. The rooms smelt very musty and the decor very old.

The hotel is gradually being renovated, and they are making a fine job of it! Still a fair amount to do but the rooms were great and very clean, though the bathroom was a little small. Restaurant was well run and the food was tasty and good quality. The desert was a special meant to share between two, well it...

2 couples stayed one night at this hotel. The location of the hotel and the external appearance of the hotel was very appealing. However the internal appearance of the hotel was extremely disappointing. Threadbare carpet on stairs and hallway. Antiquated plumbing and lighting in the rooms. In our room the ceiling was cracked, fan in bathroom was old and noisy...

First impressions..... wall paper pealing, holes in walls, shrubs growing in the gutters, toilet suite parts sitting on the pathway leading to a romantic terrace with rotten tables. Must have been Basel's night off as no sign of staff. Glow worm tunnel amazing and only short walk away along with Curlys bar.

Decided on the Waitomo Caves Hotel for the 1 night we were in Waitomo on our recent trip. Knowing it was an older building had us excited for some classic elegance and charm, but instead what we found was a room in need of some updating. The room was small as was the bathroom, having just enough space to squeeze...

We absolutely loved this hotel! Okay, let me be upfront this place is old, really old so if you are expecting Versace style facilities you won't find them here. What you will find though is an establishment steeped in history (a Victorian wing and later added Art Deco wing) at fantastic pricing. I believe it was built in 1889 and...
