2 couples stayed one night at this hotel. The location of the hotel and the external appearance of the hotel was very appealing. However the internal appearance of the hotel was extremely disappointing. Threadbare carpet on stairs and hallway. Antiquated plumbing and lighting in the rooms. In our room the ceiling was cracked, fan in bathroom was old and noisy...

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay at our hotel. Yes, there are a few aspects of the hotel that are old - replacing carpet in public areas are due to be completed shortly as part of our rennovation programme, but our staff are dedicated in providing a clean, comfortable product. Great to hear that...

First impressions..... wall paper pealing, holes in walls, shrubs growing in the gutters, toilet suite parts sitting on the pathway leading to a romantic terrace with rotten tables. Must have been Basel's night off as no sign of staff. Glow worm tunnel amazing and only short walk away along with Curlys bar.

I'm sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your stay. I will get our maintenance team to inspect the gutters near the terrace. We are working hard to restore this historic hotel back to her former glory!

Decided on the Waitomo Caves Hotel for the 1 night we were in Waitomo on our recent trip. Knowing it was an older building had us excited for some classic elegance and charm, but instead what we found was a room in need of some updating. The room was small as was the bathroom, having just enough space to squeeze...

We absolutely loved this hotel! Okay, let me be upfront this place is old, really old so if you are expecting Versace style facilities you won't find them here. What you will find though is an establishment steeped in history (a Victorian wing and later added Art Deco wing) at fantastic pricing. I believe it was built in 1889 and...

Many thanks for taking the time to place such a neat review on our property. I'm glad that you loved it as much as we do! It's such a treasure to have to a hotel, rich in history, so unique given the relatively young country that is New Zealand. We really look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Our first impression was "does Norman Bates live here"? Pictures on all the websites must have been taken ages ago as this place is so run down it is just creepy. Starting from the car park, there were pot holes everywhere, garden/pots with dead plants, into reception and is was dark, sofas were well past their prime. We were given...

Thanks for providing feedback on our property. I'm sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied. We believe the hotel is a charming place to stay, it's not modern, chic and surrounded by perfect concrete - we leave that to the inner city hotels which have no character! :)

Comfy bed and lovely food (despite the long wait for it to be served) but the rest of the place is very run down and sad. Noise traveled easily and loudly between rooms and the bathroom activities were quite audible from the rooms next to us. Shame the spa pools were not in operation as per the advertising =( Not,...

This is a stunning historic building in a stunning location. Unfortunately she is in need of somebody to care for her and restore her to former glory - what an asset she would be if the right person came along with a considerable sum of money and a suitable project manager. Our room although small and clean had stunning views...

Thanks for taking the time to place a review on our property - I'm surprised that the paint work did not meet with your expectations - I will get our maintenance team to investigate this - yes we are working hard to restore the hotel to her former glory!

This is an old hotel that harkens back to grander times. Some parts are definitely in need of refurbishment, but overall I enjoyed the experience. Some rooms have been done up, and they are very good. Others have not, and they range from decidedly average to quite substandard. Definitely ask if you can get one of the refurbished rooms! I...

We stayed one night in this hotel. Room was small and did not have air condition. Wifi did only work in the reception area. The menu at the hotel was quite short so we went to another place for dinner. A positive thing was that there was a bath tube in the bath room and that was well received by...

What an amazing and imposing building in a prime location. The building has clearly been there for many decades. Coincidentally, many decades ago was the last time the building was decorated and updated. Peeling wallpaper, a damp smell, an ancient bathroom suite, etc. I won't go on. We only stayed here as it was near the caves, thankfully it was...
