We booked 4 nights here through another 3rd party booking company. We arrived at about 8pm after a nightmare 2 hour taxi ride from the airport. There was nowhere to eat, nowhere to have or buy a beer and the hotel was isolated. My wife and I had to walk about a kilometre to the nearest restaurant that sold cold beer. It was horrendous! The room, 813, was filthy, the wifi hardly worked and the bed was rock hard. Neither of us slept. The next day upon looking at the pool area, we discovered that the swim up bar was closed and covered in black. The breakfast was awful as well. We moved to the Shangri-la and forgot the booking as we just had to get out of there. Do yourself a favour, do not stay here. Cheap is all it is.
Had dinner there. Staff was not friendly. Food was mediocre. Wanted a drink later that night after dinner. Staff unwilling to serve saying service in most area closed. Went next door and had a good time in Hard Rock Hotel Poolside bar. Next two mornings breakfast was too crowded. Perhaps it was a weekend. But staff was slow in clearing tables left by earlier diners and surly when asked for small service like clearing used plates etc.
This is a hard review to write as I don’t want anything said to reflect on the staff here who were absolutely brilliant. The rooms are a good size, the pool is lovely and clean and the gardens are pretty. But….the spa is shut, there are no jacuzzis and the gym is just awful, and possibly unsafe. Breakfast was very poor. Drinks are expensive compared to other hotels we had a look at. And the worst thing is the noise. We moved room after the first night to get away from the road but even then you need ear plugs and the air conditioning on to get an peace from the road and the hotel lobby. The hotel or getting on for 30 years old I believe and the design just lets sound echo and vibrate throughout the building. We appreciate this was a busy time at the hotel and the Penang is a bustling resort but even so this seems to be a problem here.…
Great location, reminded me of Singapore in the 60s when I was there at school. This was my 3rd visit with the Brit-Brats reunion group, 53 of us, the location and staff at the hotel where excellent they laid on a BBQ for us and we spent a few nights at the bar along the beach, we will be back. 🌞😎
location to far, excellent rapid bus, old facilities, good staff. good landscape. have private beach but thick sand, so dangerous. jetty have lumut. e hailing so expensive this state (penang) so not recommended if you not from penang and didn't transport. so raining at November Rain gun n roses, holly craps great scott.
this hotel is outdated and needs a refurbishment, the rooms are big but oldstylish and worn out, the bathroom has no door, so you don't have privacy, the towels are old and partly torn, the view of the mountains and the sea is great, the garden is large and invites you to lounge, the breakfast buffet is good and offers enough choice, but the yoghurt should be cooled and not left open, the coffee machines should work better, the staff at the breakfast buffet is helpful, as multicultural and multinational guests we didn't feel welcome in this hotel at all, we don't come back
It does have a coziness to it although some may say it looks outdated. Cleanliness was hit and miss; whether some parts were kept clean and some were not, example, behind the room doors, underneath the table, slide the bed a bit and you could see collected dust, and behind the closet door. Love the Kelapa Bar for an evening eat but choices were limited and some were not available. Attraction was the pool, access to beach and seaview. I love that the bathtub/toilet, shower and bathroom are separated. This makes it easier for different family member to use separate rooms at a time. Breakfast was so-so, especially in terms of variety. There are spaces between dishes that'll be enough for more variety. The turn around for refills was alright except paratha station. Perhaps add some Penang breakfast delicacies (kuih, kuey teow, popiah, etc...), soft boiled eggs (the counter said they don't do, even though there was an egg maker), etc...…
this hotel is recommended from MMT to Couple stay and its like fully crowded lake of cleanness, very less food option and complementary breakfast food is not, Overall experience and note recommended couple stay not activity.
We have stayed here several times before Covid and was feeling a little apprehensive as to what to expect this time, but we were very happy that all the staff treated us like family and remembered us with smiles on their face. Thankyou so much.
From arrival the hotel is outdated and grubby looking. Not a really problem but definitely detracted from the overall experience. We were hungry so went and ordered a snack from the restaurant. The noodles that we ordered were inedible. Disgusting. The service was very poor aswell. We asked to put the food on the room and so we did. They then chased us down and said we had to pay and couldn’t put it on the room ? Very confusing. The room itself was filthy. Would never stay here again
