We arrived under less than favorable circumstances, but the staff made sure that our family was settled immediately. The resort and amenities were incredible, and my young children immensely enjoyed their stay - especially surf camp. A special shout out to Tiffany in concierge. She was so attentive and accommodating we greatly appreciated the extras. Highly recommend for families and we will certainly return.

Hotel's Favourite
“Tropical dry forest luxury” is a motif I didn’t know I wanted or needed until our visit to Four Seasons Costa Rica. And since we happened to be there in August, during their rainy season, the grounds were actually quite lush and verdant, with exotic (to those of us in the US) flowers growing everywhere. After a long day of traveling, being greeted with a coconut water/rum concoction made all trials and tribulations melt away. The perfect start to a wonderful vacation. Here are some things that made our week-long visit stellar: - The people: Supposedly, Costa Ricans are among the happiest folks on earth, and while that seems impossible to measure, the ones we encountered made me a believer. Wil, Raul, and Jaime at Añejo, Kenneth and Fabian at the pool, and Luz in the restaurant were just a few who always addressed us by name, with a friendliness and sense of hospitality that stands above even the impeccable Four Seasons standard. - Resort layout: If you opt for a standard room, as we did, it’s likely that it will be in one of 3 main buildings, situated very close to the pools, restaurants, fitness center, etc. I loved leaving our room 5 minutes before our reservation and arriving right on time. - Rooms: Though we were offered a (pricey) upgrade at check-in, we declined it and were glad we did. Our beautifully appointed room had plenty of space for the two of us, and we wanted for nothing. I especially loved the screened-in porch; we had a few rainy afternoons and it was an absolutely perfect place for a summer nap, accompanied by the sound of raindrops and ocean waves. - Restaurants: While the food is good at the other Four Seasons beach resorts we’ve visited, our experience is that it becomes one-note after a few days. Not here. Pesce was our absolute favorite, but the others were also excellent (including Nemare, the steakhouse a short drive away). We went to a couple of the other Peninsula Papagayo restaurants not connected to the Four Seasons, but they were nothing special and we wished we would have just stayed put. - Booking airport transportation through the resort: Our arrival was marred by stormy weather that resulted in our aircraft being diverted to the San José airport. For a time, we didn’t know if we would make it back to Liberia, though through a stroke of luck we did, albeit several hours late. The Four Seasons transportation staff was monitoring the situation, and as we later learned, they were prepared to fetch us from San José had we been stranded there. That’s next-level service that made the extra cost worth every penny. - Free laundry facilities: Most would say that there’s no way they’re doing laundry on vacation, let alone while at a resort with room rates well north of a grand per night. I get it. But I loved the fact that I could put in a couple of loads during our week-long stay… it meant lighter packing and not checking luggage. And a couple of “needs improvements” things: - The pools have seen better days. Don’t get me wrong; if your plans call for nothing but sunbathing – that’s all I did – you will be able to do that successfully, and happily, frozen cocktail in hand. They do the trick, but for Four Seasons, they're nothing special (and even a little beat-up in parts). No more than 3 feet deep anywhere, the adult pool's proximity to the trees along the beach means that after only a couple of hours, you’re pulling leaves and pods and drowned insects out of your path. I hear they’re doing an overhaul of this area… good move. - Wi-fi is spotty in sections. It needs a boost, especially in this day and age. All in all, though, we had such a wonderful, relaxing time. Gracias and mucho gusto.

I visited the Four Seasons in February of 2023. The experience was incredible! What a Zen place. If you are looking for a truly restful experience this is your place. The staff was so attentive to all requests. In room dining truly done right (Hot food, full service). The pool and spa facilities are spotless, rooms are clean and I have no complaints. If you are looking for a party like atmosphere this may not be your spot.

I have stayed in many Four Seasons resorts, and all have been excellent, but my stay in Costa Rica was truly exceptional. I would rank the staff as #1 reason why and just the overall relaxed feeling...like you get in Hawaii. No one overselling or hovering, but always on the ready to anticipate your needs. And the property is stunning. Oh. And there is the matter of the FOOD. Yummy!

Run don’t was to get here! Such a fabulous part of Costa Rica and the Four Seasons is truly stunning. Take a beach walk and look for hermit crabs and monkeys. Snorkel or kayak the bays. Take a guided walking tour of the mangroves and learn about the symbiotic natural environment. Enjoy a delicious breakfast overlooking the pool and take in a yoga class or golf with a pro! So much to do and see!!

We visited the Four Seasons Cost Rica at Peninsula Papagayo for my 60th birthday in February. We loved it! The property was beautiful, the food was great and service exceptional. Our room was beautiful (super clean and well appointed also) with gorgeous view. We both had massages in the spa and it was a wonderful experience -- be sure and give yourself time to enjoy the hot and cold plunge pools. We did the free Tour of Giants and saw so many creatures -- monkeys, birds and more! We dined at all of the restaurants and enjoyed the variety of Four Seasons options. The adult pool was peaceful and poolside service excellent. We also participated in the free rum infusion class and mixology class -- both informative and fun! We will definitely be back.

The Four Season's Resort was excellent in every aspect. Rooms, Grounds, Food and Wonderful Staff! Loved that there were two beaches. The different Restaurants were fun to visit and each one had it's own special foods. Ordering lunch at the beach was easy and very enjoyable. The Staff went out of their way to be welcoming, friendly and helpful. Being picked up at the airport and transportation back was easy and convenient. Our vacation was outstanding!

Absolutely beautiful, but be prepared to only have room service or ordering from restaurants. I would recommend stopping at a market on the way in and buying misc snacks and drinks. $6 for a sparkling water is a little nuts. They also add a service charge for everything! And servers want additional tip on top of that. Be prepared to add at least 25 percent to listed prices.

The room was dirty with a stain on the couch and giant dust bunnies and old Lego pieces in the bed frame. Our bathtub was broken and the concierge was condescending telling us we didn’t know how to use it. The guy they sent had to replace the drain stop and not one follow up or apology for the inconvenience. I’ve loved other Four Seasons and this did not live up to expectations. The staff was mostly friendly but slow making it difficult to grab a quick bite before an activity. The only grab and go place closes before 11am and options were limited. The resort itself was underwhelming. One beach was hard to walk on and way too windy to use in the afternoon on each of the five days we were there. The pools were old and missing tiles here and there and were often dirty because of the wind throughout the day.

This review is not about the Four Seasons property in general. It’s a beautiful location, the service is excellent and the people who work there are incredibly friendly and accommodating. I went to this Four Seasons to surf Witches Rock via the Four Seasons on-site SurfX program. It was a best in class surf program. The experience started weeks before via email. Most of my communication was with Hanna, who manages the program. She was incredibly responsive, and on top of every detail. Before I arrived she helped me select boards from the programs massive quiver (they have so many to choose from there is no need to bring your own). About 10 days out from the trip she started providing updates on the surf forecast including the tides and optimal times for us to leave for Witches Rock, which was really helpful for planning the rest of my days. Once I arrived it became even more clear how committed she was to the surfer experience even inquiring about what could make the experience better. Although I understand SurfX is an external program not owned by Four Seasons this was Four Seasons level customer service. Last, but not least, my surf guide was JD, who grew up charging the breaks around Tamarindo. He is an excellent surfer, and so much more. He exudes love for his profession and for making sure the people surfing with him have the best experience possible. He knew everything about the breaks around Witches Rock. Not having surfed it before I found it a bit tricky to spot the best waves at least for the conditions I had. Waves didn’t look like much until they jacked up quickly. But, JD could identify waves as rights, lefts and close outs when they were seemingly 50 yards away. And he would call them out making wave selection so easy, and direct you quickly to the best takeoff point. It seemed he always had one eye on you and one on the horizon spotting waves, marine life, changes in wind and everything you would want to know. I found him to be a true waterman…somewhere Duke Kahanamoku is smiling.
