My daughter just had her wedding at El Mangroove and it was spectacular! The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food was Amazing! The accommodations were fabulous. Jennifer and her team rose to the occasion and surpassed my expectations! My daughter said it was her dream wedding and I thank everyone who helped make that dream a reality! All our guests (113), are still raving about it! Gorgeous property and worth the stay!
I came here with my 6 year old for his winter break and I will definitely return again. From the moment we stepped out of the valet area, we received top-notch service. The welcome drink was cool and refreshing with the towel while we checked in. This is an open-air resort so everything is outside, including the reception desks. Yes, this resort is expensive but I am a person who loves great service and the raving reviews on service here are what drew me to book this resort. They did not disappoint! On the very first day my son got in the small circular pool and got a cut on his foot from some tiny missing tiles. When we brought it to their attention, not only did they bring him first aid and care for him immediately, but when we checked back later on, they had already replaced the tiles. I appreciated the care taken to ensure this didn't happen to another guest. Additionally, we were given dinner and 2 days of free pool cabana use for our inconvenience which was very nice to keep us out of the sun by the pool. Each day we were greeted with warm smiles and attentive staff. Everyone remembered my child's name, which made us feel very welcomed. Masiel at the reception desk was awesome, Adrian at the valet, Brandon (I think) at the pool area and so many others whose names I can't remember made our stay enjoyable. The room was very nice and CLEAN!!! Did I say clean?! Yes, I look in the corners/baseboards to make sure there is no leftover dirt. I appreciate a clean living space and this was just that. There was no ocean view but that did not bother me because the room was CLEAN. We had a hammock in the living room area with the couch which my kid loved and the room was extremely spacious- loved it. Housekeeping comes to clean once a day and then they come back for turn down service in the evening. Loved that extra perk. The beach - I see reviews mentioning the beach but the resort does not advertise a white sand beach. The great part about this resort is that there is actually a walkout beach where you can dip into the water. The sand is dark and not necessarily fluffy- it's the type of sand that is wet and packed together. However, I was not expecting white fluffy sand as it is not advertised that way. We ventured out to Tamarindo Beach for that. There are some vendors that may approach you at the beach area - we ended up jet skiing and talked them down a bit on the price. Additionally, we wanted to do a buggy tour but the hotel's offering for buggy tours (UTV) was less expensive than the beach vendor (less than $300 for 2 people). My child fell ill after visiting Ponderosa Adventure Park. We didn't think it was the food we ate there because we both ate the same lunch on the property. I do believe it was from getting water from the waterfall area in the mouth because I did not get any in my mouth and I was not ill so keep that in mind if traveling with children. The hotel was very attentive and the concierge recommended us to a nearby medical center which we visited called Coco Medical Center. It got better in a day so we are thinking it was a 24 hour virus or such. However, in that day and the following days after, the hotel called to check on us, made sure we had what we needed, brought us extra room service with fruit and also mentioned that they would give us items like soup that were not on the menu. This made me really feel at home and like they really cared about our experience. There is not a kid's club but we did so many activities that it was not missed. I think the kid's club is in the process of being built. We enjoyed our pool days and ventured out to several off location restaurants. We had a free breakfast buffet with our stay which was awesome each morning (get there early) with a lot of variety from the normal waffles/pancakes to fruit to plantains, local food options, etc. The banana bread was so tasty and the fresh juices were fulfilling. The service here truly made this a worthwhile stay and Adrian at the valet even left my kid a voice message to say goodbye when he knew we were leaving when he was not at work. 5 stars for sure.…
So this was our last stop over while visiting Costa Rica for last 2 days of our trip. Overall our experience was very nice. Warm welcome upon arrival greeted and helpful front desk check in. The grounds were lovely, pool area was very nice and kept clean, very good service by the pool staff. The beach area was OK. Not as nice as our two previous locations. There were no waves since it is located in a bay area and there were a ton of boats in the water that were not terrific to look at. The hotel was pretty empty so I’m not sure what it would be like if it was at or near capacity for service. although the staff was incredibly attentive, it almost bordered on too much maybe because they were bored? It seems like every 15 minutes someone would be coming by and asking you if you want a drink or needed some thing. After staying at two other locations, this hotel seemed overpriced. There was no breakfast included not even a light Buffet. So we ordered room service for breakfast and it was just OK and they did not get our order correct. if you eat on resort it is expensive and a light selection for lunch at only one of the restaurants. We did not eat on resort for dinner we went to the town of playa Coco. Two slight negatives would be …we asked for our car to be ready for us the night before for an early flight and it was not. (They have valet parking which we didn’t feel necessary but they only had that option). They suggested we schedule a specific time for housekeeping which we did for 11 AM and we went back to our room at 3 o’clock and housekeeping was in the room cleaning. Again not a big deal but why request a specific time if they’re going to show up for hours later? The room was nice, no view, not sure any of the rooms even had a view of the ocean which was disappointing because we stayed in our two other locations and had amazing views for less money. there was a separate living room that was not air-conditioned and had a hammock in it which was very unsteady. The bedroom was closed off with a sliding glass door which was air-conditioned. we have not stayed with this company before but after staying there, nothing against the grounds or the pleasant staff, we just would not stay again felt it was overpriced for what you get.…
We loved our time at El Mangroove for our recent business trip!! Here are some reasons why: - The resort is close to the Liberia airport (around a 20 min drive), and the hotel offers transportation to/from the airport. No need to deal with the hassle of finding a car rental company and renting an expensive car to get to the hotel. - We also enjoyed how convenient it was to reserve the hotel shuttle to take us to nearby restaurants and other attractions, like Coco Beach (small fee, $5 per person, round trip). - Every staff member we spoke to was so friendly and helpful! They truly went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. - The grounds were so beautiful and well-manicured, and we loved the close proximity to the ocean! - Their 3 restaurants offered very tasty food, reasonably priced, and they had several gluten-free options available! - We also felt SO safe the entire time. We really appreciated that the resort keeps track of which guests leave the property, and when they return back. - We really loved how thorough the housekeeping services were each day. And the evening turn-down service was a nice touch (I really looked forward to the sweet treat!). Our thoughts for an even better experience: - The breakfast buffet is amazing, but it was very difficult to identify which options were gluten-free. It would be so helpful if the cards to identify each food item included a special symbol about it being gluten-free (similar to how items are identified as being gluten-free on your restaurant menus). - It would also be helpful if the resort offered a daily schedule of resort activities to choose from, such as: Yoga 9am, learn to paddleboard 10am, kayaking 11am, etc. Towards the end of our stay, we learned that most of the water activities are complementary, but you have to go to the kiosk to reserve. And the open-air yoga facility looked so nice! I wish there was a daily yoga class that I could have attended (if there was one offered, I did not know about it). We would love to stay at El Mangroove again in the future!…
We had a wonderful time at El Mangrove. My husband and I finished our 12 day vacation there. The personnel are all so friendly. Our favorite bar tender, Gabriel, was not only a good bartender but was so friendly and funny. We were there when the Super Bowl was played. The staff wheeled out several large screen tv’s to the bar/restaurant so we could all watch. Considering we were out of the country, we didn’t expect that kind of service for an American football game. All in all, it was a very relaxed, serene resort and a perfect ending to our vacation. We would go back without hesitation.
I was upgraded to a nicer room than I booked (Bonvoy Platinum), and it was amazing. The shower was huge, and the balcony was my favorite place, on the swing, watching the monkeys in the trees! Everyone was so friendly, and the overall trip was so wonderful. Criticisms: hot water was an issue during construction hours, pretty much every day, no matter what time during the day until after construction was done for the evening. The water wasn't exactly cold either, but not what I was expecting. Vegans: the vegan menu is very, very limited. If you will be here for a while and need some variety in your diet besides simple carbs, you will need to make some other arrangements for food. No microwave (I wouldn't expect one at a luxury resort), but you can store some food in the mini fridge along with the minibar stuff. But like I said, the property was beautiful. The spa was amazing, the pools were great. Take advantage of a cabana if you don't do well in the sun!…
Pro: Beautiful location, room decorations are great, many pools, beach is next to hotel, staff is the best in the world, breakfast selection was amazing with a ton of different choices Cons Unable to stream Netflix or other services to TV TV satellite issues, unable to watch any channels Food at Matiss restaurant was hit n miss. Very expensive food Have to pay for shuttle to take you to town No other restaurants close to hotel that you can walk
I don’t usually write reviews, but I was amazed with the service and experience I had at El Mangroove. First off the food was amazing, every dish was 5 star restaurant quality and the presentation of the dishes was astounding. The service was so good, I couldn’t wait to talk to the employees because they always put a smile to my face. I am trying to practise Spanish and every one understood that and was so caring in teaching me something new every conversation. Our server Christian at Malu, the Mediterranean cuisine restaurant, was so warming and felt like a friend after serving us, our initial plan was to try dinner at all resurants, but we ended up going back to Malu just to be served by Christian again. We ended up planning poorly and missed a boating excursion. Another server overheard us and gave us a number for another guide who came that same day with a boating excursion for us. We usually don’t come back to resorts as we like to discover and try new things, but El Mangroove will be an exception!…
This hotel surpassed every expectations. We were recommended to stay at the Andaz but chose Il Mangroove because it is on the same level as the beach. The service was absolutely impeccable. Every staff member in every part of the resort always answered a thank you with. “ Com Mucho gusto’. It is obvious that the management is extremely competent. I especially loved the Mediterranean restaurant Malu, it sits on some impeccably landscaped pools and gardens but the food is above and beyond. The amuse Bouche is Michelin quality. The servers are extremely professional, if you go, ask for Christian, he gives genuine service and shows true love for hospitality.! For lunch we enjoyed many meals at the beach restaurant, again all staff were exemplary, especially Kenneth! ! Top luxury hotel with excellent prices to boot. We will be back! Did I mention the Mediterranean restaurant Malu??…
We only stayed for 3 nights, but I had one of the most wonderful hotel experiences I have ever had. The property is beautiful; the pools are great, the beach is amazing- full of black sand and iguanas, and the food is delicious. The one thing that stood out the most was the excellent customer service. Every single staff member was wonderful and very friendly. Christian, our server at the Malu restaurant went above and beyond with his customer service, and was one of the best servers I have ever had. I have never written a review about a hotel before, but El Mangroove was so great that I am already making plans to return to Costa Rica to stay here.
