We booked this accommodation via hotels.com. We had only booked for one night as it was our final night of our road trip on the South coast and we wanted to be close to the airport prior to flying back the day after. Upon arrival the rather unfriendly, gruff owner had no record of our booking. I had to 'prove' that we had booked by forwarding the email from the booking agent. He was curt, bordering on rude. He finally accepted that we had booked and paid for a room. He then proceeded to take us the five steps from reception to our room. This was clearly the worst room in the accommodation. It was right at the side of reception with the outside seating area at the side of the main entrance overlooking the busy street. Upon entering the dark, dank grubby little room I immediately said that it was not what suitable. His response? "You are only here for one night so why does it matter"? Needless to say we walked out and found far superior accommodation in Koutoulafari.

Sitting on our patio on our last night in Piskopiano. Right in the heart of the village, within easy walking distance of Koutolafai and Old Hersonisos villages. We have been made to feel so welcome. The accommodation is very basic but value for money is incredible. It's A bit of a trek to the beach, but we hired a moped for the duration. Definitely recommend

The Piskopiano Village Apartments are a fantastic base in the village of Piskopiano - positioned well and close by to Hersonissos, Koutouloufari and Old Hersonissos. The apartments are spotlessly clean and modern, especially compared to other Greek apartments within the same budget - our family are very well traveled around the Greek islands. There are x2 pools - one a more relaxed one aimed at adults only (it's very deep in this pool so not great for the kids). The second pool is served by a lovely bar and cafe bar and Maria runs this efficiently; with everything cooked fresh in front of you; everything we ate here was good too. Maria herself is super friendly - she is the star of this accommodation for sure. The main bar, on the street is also a nice, relaxed and classy setting to have a drink pre or post dinner. Mr George, the owner, (Maria's father-in-law) is a lovely man too and when we returned here with our two children, he bought a gift for them, which was a nice gesture. On arrival we were put into a room that really didn't suit our needs, and were moved swiftly and with no complaint at all - in fact the staff helped us to carry our luggage as this included the two sleeping children, which was a nice touch. There is also a swing by the entrance which went down well with the children as well as a park area - although this is by the road/car park. Our single only gripe of this apartment was that half of the guests were feeding the stray cats - some using the bowls within the apartments filled with cat food which is not hygienic at all! Not the apartments' fault but I think this should be discouraged. The area is absolutely gorgeous, very traditional Greek and so picturesque. The three villages are served by a number of restaurants and bars, and we honestly didn't have a bad meal out. We like to eat traditional Greek dishes; but if you prefer to eat English food, that is also readily available. Asposperida was one of our favourite restaurants for small plates and excellent service, and if you try Emmanuel Taverna you absolutely have to try one of their speciality 'meat in the oven' dishes - the aroma hits you in the street as you walk by, and this didn't disappoint. We had a mixture of lamb, pork and chicken and all were great. Restaurants are really reasonably priced in the villages too. Steki did an amazing 12-hour cooked pork with crackling too. If you want something special, then I would suggest trying Gallini restaurant - not only is the decor something special, the food is too, but remember you are in Greece, as the service is slow here. The beaches are much smaller here than in other parts of Crete, but there are hidden gems, such as Scorpio Bar's private beach which is a stunning little beach, with comfortable, cushioned sunbeds (aprox 20 euro for x2 and an umbrella and with waiter service all day for drinks/snacks if you wish. If you have children - Star Beach is a must-visit place for water fun. We visited Stalis too for a change of scene, and it was a lovely place, a much bigger strip and very commercial/touristy but with a gorgeous beach. Our children love a beach day but there is also an aquarium and a zoo in Hersonissos and we also visited the Astra Apartments Crazy Golf several times during our stay which is very reasonable and in Hersonnisos there is a lovely restaurant, called No Name, which serves sensational pizzas as well as Greek dishes, but it has an on-site soft play for the children which was ideal for getting them out of the sun for an hour. All in all we would 100% return to the area and to Piskopiano Village Apartments.
