We didn't stay at Howler Monkey Hotel, we stayed in the house next door, but we met Jim the owner, who invited us to use his pool and introduced us to the purveyor of the cheapest, freshest local fish. Jim is extremely hospitable. I'm sure he's a great host to his visitors.

We did not stay at the Howler Monkey but had a prior reservation at a cabin nearby on the same road. Yet Jim the Patron/manager was very helpful. We borrowed his kayaks and he recommended the best location to kayak plus provided info on the tides and best timing to go out on the water, and he provided some minor...

First off, Howler Monkey is very small and off the beaten path. It took a bit of driving to get there from San Jose. The community of Cabuya is very quaint and charming. The location is beautiful and access to the ocean is great. Note that it is not a sand beach - very rocky. The cabins are cute and...

The beach is dependent on the tides and the moon for sand, sometimes the tide brings in sand and you have a nice sandy beach and sometimes it takes away the sand so you have a rocky beach. Its not easy to have matching sheets as sometimes the guests burn holes in them with there cigarettes .I have salt and pepper and...

Jim was an outstanding host, he lended us bikes so that we could visit the area as i was thinking of moving permanently to Cabuya and had such short time to make up my mind. Our stay at his hotel definitely played...

This hotel is CR. I've seen nature like never before, from whales swimming by to 50 monkey tribes in the trees, birds, butterflies and a lot more. Jim is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. The hotel is off the main road which makes it quiet and restful. My cabina looks over the pool and then the beach. Kitchen,...

We stayed 2 nights and were delighted to have an ocean view from our bed and a well ventilated room with working fans. The owner Jim was incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the area. We were the only people staying there! Got to love Green Season! We looked at 2 other places near by and this was by far the...

I am currently spending 12 months backpacking with my 8 year old twins and we just spent 10 wonderful days at the Howler Monkey Hotel. None of us wanted to leave and the kids asked me repeatedly on our bus to Montezuma could we go back. The cabins are a beautiful A-frame and the upstairs sleeping area is spacious and...
