Travelled with husband and 2 kids aged 6 and 9 years. We had the best time and can't wait to go back!

Rooms

Basic but spotless!! Maids came in everyday. Towels were changed daily but not bedding which we would not expect anyways so not an issue at all!
Floors were always swept. No AC which was not a problem for us but I could imagine in the summer it would be hot hot hot in rooms! 🥵

Very clean!

The hotel is immaculate! Maids were constantly cleaning and pottering on, always spoke to us which is lovely. The maintenance guys worked literally non stop making improvements and doing odd jobs (grouting, scrubbing sun parasols) they honestly worked their socks off! 👍

Pool area

People put towels down on sunbeds early but there was always a sunbed to grab at any time of day so did not bother us one bit. Activities like darts, water polo, archery were on for kids and adults run by a lovely lifeguard but this stopped due to the time of year. Didn't stop is doing our own tournaments though!
Always fairly loud upbeat music playing around pool which we loved!!

Shopping centre

Turn right out of hotel and then left down the 169 steps down to the main shopping centre of where there is are plenty bars and restaurants. You do get hassled slightly to go into restaurants but didn't bother us. A polite browse of the menu was enough to keep workers happy even if you did not eat there.
we did not use a taxi at all as we used the walk back up to burn the calories we had demolished in la cabana and Isla Bonita restaurant 😂 the kids managed the steps back up fine too but did argue over who counted the right amount of steps!
Plenty taxis around for anyone with mobility issues.
We enjoyed live music in shamrocks and bros bar!

If you turn right and follow the road around there are 100 less steps to walk down which we found easier coming back up.

Mogan mall and market

When you get down to steps at shopping centre turn right and walk up to Mogan mall and market opposite the mall. It's beautiful watching the fountains. More up market eateries which were bit more pricey than shopping centre.
Have a look in lefties in Mogan mall which is just like Primark 👌

Food essentials

A few superdinos around the shopping centre however if you walk to the spar opposite Mogan mall the food is half the price of super Dino and much nicer place to shop!!

Top tip

It's super loud at night due to the centre of Puerto Rico being so close. Music is bouncing until 4am then obviously the tipsy people arriving back at the hotel were never quiet. This was easily rectified by a good pair of earplug

Thank you Cala D'or for a wonderful holiday! We will certainly be back 🥰

Just got off the plane!! And we wish we were back, fantastic staff. My husband and daughter had their birthday whilst staying here. Wow. Everyone from cleaning staff to reception staff to bar staff. Life guard, entertainment staff. Even Norwegian holiday makers. all made a big effort to wish them happy birthday, even one staff member collected a cake an brought it in on their day off. Wow thats good staff!!. Thank you so much for making our holiday extra special.we will definitely be coming back... Highly recommend eating in food is delicious and price is very good, especially Wednesday bbq night well worth it.Entertainer is fantastic with everyone from adults to our two girls, who did nothing but laugh, He really broke the ice with all the holiday makers an had ever one getting along chatting. There's a huge tv with every channel going so if you like sports they will play it for you. Fantastic sunsets views. Heated pool. I could keep on writing more,it's the first place we have been to an want to return.Big Thank you. And see you soon.

Recently stayed here with friend and had a lovely time. Although situated up the side of the hill, as are all hotels in Puerto Rico. You are very close to the main centre for bars and restaurants and 10 min walk to beach. Apartments are clean and have everything you require from an apartment with the exception of plug sockets which were in short supply. All our rooms overlooked the pool and there seemed to be a general understanding amongst guests to not save sunbeds. The solarium is fantastic and has lots of sunbeds and a couple of showers to cool off. All staff were friendly and helpful and any requirements/ requests were dealt with straight away. Would definitely recommend these Apartments to stay in if in Puerto Rico. And will defo come back soon.

We had high expectations for this hotel after reading so many great trip advisor reviews but we wouldn't go back even if it was free.

Firstly the good points. Great entertainer, he's a real credit to this hotel, very enthusiastic and always happy. Also all the receptionists we spoke to were great, super friendly and extremely helpful but sadly this is all the positive things I have to say about the cala dor

The price of food and drink is actually disgusting, €12.60 for what they call a 'large' breakfast and €3.80 for two slices of toast is day light robbery. I understand prices are going up right now but this is absolutely shocking especially as it's low quality ingredients

After 2 days we gave up on the pool area, we had enough of constantly getting hit by volley balls that belong on the beach and not in a pool. The pool is extremely rough, the life guard doesn't calm the situation down like others do in different hotels. By mid afternoon you can't move in the pool, everyone is just standing there like sardines, searching for a bit of space.
Far too many people using the pool and sunbeds and not enough space to accommodate them

Luckily we found out we weren't the only ones having the same issues and other families were using a different hotel for its facilities, I'm not talking about the altair which is a sister hotel but a different hotel entirely. It's wrong that people have to go elsewhere to feel relaxed on their holiday. When you work all year you deserve to be able to chill out and enjoy yourself

The noise is unbearable at times. The maids are outside your bedroom window at 7 am, talking extremely loud and dragging their cleaning carts about. Noise from the Commercial Centre goes on until 3 or 4 in the morning but you can't close the balcony door to block it out because there's no AC. It's a choice between no sleep due to the noise or no sleep because the room is baking hot, either way you're not getting any sleep

This hotel is probably completely different at other times of the year but sadly during the summer it's massively over crowded.

We miss puerto rico but definitely not the cala dor

My partner and I returned from a week's stay at the Cala D'or apartments on Sunday morning and already we wish we was back.
I stayed here in 1992 on a family holiday and this was the first time back to Puerto Rico since then so almost 30 years!.
First of all, got to say so many memories came flooding back but have to say these apartments were the best choice we made!
The place has been done up lots and is modern, spotlessly clean and has everything you need for your holiday.
Our room was great, had all the basics we needed for the little time we spent in the room. Our room was cleaned 3/4 times during the week with fresh towels each time.
We was room 208 so could sit on the balcony at night and watch the entertainment that was on every night we was there.
The staff were all great very friendly, chatty and helpful and also they kept rhe pool area spotless at all times.
The pool did get busy first thing in the morning with family's but we used the sun deck 3/4 times throughout the week and always got a sun bed.
I can not fault these brilliant little apartments great location only 170 steps down to the commercial centre... if you wanted a taxi back up only €3
It took us about 15 mins to walk to the beach, and 10 mins to the Mogan Mall.
Great selection of drinks n snacks at the pool bar, great entertainment staff and a little shop on sight for last minute essentials.
If your looking to book then do it you will love the Cala D'or apts. We certainly did.
We will definitely be back for a long weekend later in the year.

Rating 4 out of 5 for this 3 star apartment block. Very clean and well maintained, backed by an army of friendly staff.
As with others on the steep hillside, be prepared for steps but backed up by lifts, although the four floors lift gets tight with even three sharing.
For me personally, the apartment was clean and spacious, with a nice L shaped seating area facing a tv (showing north England news?).
Balcony view was terrible giving a view directly onto a sunbathing deck and so offering no privacy; only a partial view of the area.
Bathroom is generous in size - shower only half glassed in so don’t get too animated in it!
Bedroom is set away from the main room and outside evening noise, so you’ll have a quieter sleep.
There is no air conditioning - ok for me in April and personally actually cool enough for a blanket but expect it to get uncomfortable in high summer if you can’t tolerate hot nights.
Big negative that needs looking at is the lack of plug outlets - only one in the room, excluding the sink kettle socket. None at all in the bedroom. I struggled using and charging multiple devices, so it must be impossible for two or more sharing!

We stayed for a week this August. The hotel is of good decor and modern, and exceptionally clean. Our room was cleaned four times within our week with fresh towels as well. We had a balcony that over looked the front of the hotel and the room was very spacious for the two of us; our two son’s and their friend had two spacious rooms between them. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom which is of a good standard. Quite a few people that have written a review about this hotel have complained about that the rooms have no air conditioning, however our room was fine but one of my sons found it unbearable. We always had a good night sleep. The pool area is very busy but it is August! And it was great and very clean. There was an entertainer for children during the day keeping them busy with games. There is a pool table, darts and live sports on to. The pool bar is great with fantastic staff. We always had breakfast there, good quality and not expensive. There is also a shop by the reception area as well. There is entertainment at night which we sometimes came back to after having a meal in a local restaurant. There are many places to eat here but the best is in the Mogan mall (upstairs), there is a good variety that offers different and a better quality of food.
The hotel is in the hill and twice a day we would walk down and back up the stairs, there is 191 steps which we found ok but if you don’t want to walk back up, you can get a taxi for3 euros. We found Gran Canaria very cheap for food and drinks the beaches in Puerto Rico are much nicer than playa del ingles. The best beach is Amadores beach which is a 30 minute walk from the hotel but the other beach is only about 10 minutes. Overall we had a fantastic time in Gran Canaria and my son’s loved the nightlife.

The hotel itself is very good, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the daytime male receptionist. We are a retired couple looking for a peaceful holiday in the sun. On arrival we were allocated apartment A101 which is the very first apartment you come to.

As very light sleepers we could hear every bit of noise from the reception area. I immediately requested a room change before we unpacked and disturbed anything in the apartment. I was informed with a blunt "no" the reason being that the hotel was full, even though it was mid afternoon. Later on there were quite a few new arrivals, so it would have been quite easy for the receptionist to have switched us around but I felt it was just too much effort on his part.
Later that day my wife washed her hair and discovered that the hair dryer in the bathroom was not working. She reported it to the same receptionist and he came into the apartment (as it was so nearby) tried the hairdryer and then said it could not be replaced until the next day....remarkable!
Around a week later we needed some clean towels, as the ones we had were wet and dirty. Yes you guessed it I went to reception to request fresh towels, only to be told again "no". When I enquired as to why not, I was informed that towels were only changed 3 times per week. Fair enough if we had been told this but we were not. When I advised the GENTLEMAN that he checked us in and he did not advise us of the towel changing arrangements, he told me that I should have more respect for him.
..comical. It was only when I asked to speak to the manager that his attitude changed and he begrudgenly arranged for us yo have fresh towels. Only about 3 days out of 10 did we have hot water the rest of the time it was tepid but by this time we realised that there was no point reporting this, as nothing would have e been done about it.
It is such a shame that this hotel has been let down by such a rude man. The other receptionists were courteous and welcoming.

We visited for 11 nights in the middle of August. The rooms were generously sized and were cleaned regularly (either daily or every other day max). We stayed in the C block which was below the quite sun deck and had no issues with other guests. It was however exceptionally hot in the rooms and they would definitely benefit from having air con. Kitchen is adequately equipped and we cooked 3 or 4 meals there (spaghetti bolognaise and fajitas etc). The public areas of the apartments are spotless and the cleaning team are always around tidying and emptying bins etc. The staff make this reasonably priced place an exceptional place to stay. Everyone is so friendly and cannot do enough to make your holiday an amazing one. The entertainment was a little repetitive especially the karaoke but the guy who runs the daytime and evening programme is amazing and absolute fantastic with the kids. The steps up to the apartments from the centre can be hard going (especially with a few bags of shopping) so towards the end of the stay we used to walk down and taxi back (€3). We would definitely consider returning though I would like to know how to book the rooms with air con that were mentioned in a previous review as I think this would turn this from a great holiday to an amazing place to stay.

We have stayed here for the last 23 years can not fault the cleanliness of the public areas and apartments, some new staff this time are very friendly alongside Chano & Jessica from previous trips.Day activities for Those who want to join in. One downside is the loudness of the poolside music, turn it down a little so we can have a conversation at the tables with a cold drink. Back in October. 2 small shops near by and a short walk down to the centre,4 euros back in a taxi. Puerto Rico as something for everyone and the weather in April is just what you need after a long winter! Thank you to reception for arranging rooms together and allowing a late check out to 3pm cost 20euros but allowed a few hours by the pool and a shower before flight home.
