Only gave this place a 3 star because of the intermittent lift. Spent more time up and down stairs with no hand rails than in the lift because it was temperamental. I do have a few mobility issues but even the most able bodied amongst the guests were fed up of it. It was the main topic of conversation around the pool etc. The hotel itself was ok, restaurant had themed nights and we ate there a couple of nights. We were half board so had breakfast which was very nice with lots to choose from. Staff were very friendly and polite. Not my choice of hotel in the first place as we came with another member of our family who had booked just before lockdown and asked us to go so as not to loose her deposit as her circumstances had changed. We wouldn’t have picked it but enjoyed it despite all of the problems with the lift. Our room was large and had a big balcony with great views so that was really nice to relax on. Pools were great too. We took taxis from the taxi rank near the hotel and they were great, very organised system. As I say not my choice of hotel in the first place and I wouldn’t return.

This hotel is lovely!the rooms have extra wide balconies, very clean and modern. Staff are friendly. We stayed half board which is breakfast, lots of choice, couldn't fault it apart from the breakfast (bacon, eggs, beans etc) we're never hot only barely warm, nobody seemed to mind though!well worth staying in,the free bus every hour to commercial centre and ammadores is a fantastic plus for families and oldies 😉 every time we did use taxis the prices ranged from 6-8 euros! Highly recommend this hotel

Just stayed for a week at the Altimar bed & breakfast. Apartment was lovely. Plenty choice at breakfast time. The hotel runs a free bus at regular intervals into Puerto Rico. Lots of reviews complaining about the lifts not working ( please, be aware this was during the horrible storm) We only had one instance the lift was not working & yes the stairs are steep. It was very quickly sorted.

Stayed at the Altamar Hotel for a few nights in November. Weather was perfect, pools lovely (there are only 2 and one small children’s pool). Lots of Skandinavians here - term time! So hotel was extremely busy. No pool bar this has been turned into a beauty salon! All buffet and self service if you’re all inclusive. Food is generally good, however an hour and a half left of the evening meal they ran out of food. Not ideal. Rooms ok we had a standard double with sea view. No air con though so very hot at night. Ceiling fans and the door open! Lots of stairs and 2 lifts. 15 min walk to the nearest beach which is lovely and lots of eateries and shops. The hotel does supply a bus to and from the beach. Wifi is good. 5 min walk to the nearest shopping area and bars. There is a spat shop on site which has everything. Lovely few days but won’t be returning to this hotel.

Absolutely terrible! We arrived at midnight on 1st October, we had our 2 sons asleep in pushchairs to be told that both lifts were broken and they didn’t know when they would be fixed. We were met with 20 flights of stairs to get our cases and children down in the pitch black down these steep steps. The security guard helped my husband with the cases but then asked for money! Which we refused blank. When I tried to speak to the man behind reception about the situation he just laughed in my face. We were told we needed to speak with the manager but with it being midnight on a Saturday he wouldn’t be there till Monday! This was our honeymoon and I had emailed ahead to let the hotel know this, and to ask for a travel cot for our baby. The service we were given was an absolute disgrace. I dread to think how anyone who was in a wheelchair would of have managed! The room we booked and paid for was a superior club house suite with sea view. We were given a standard 1 bed apartment and when I queried this the receptionist said as there was glass round the balcony and it had been decorated this is what they class as superior, which was an absolute lie as the security guard told us the room we paid for was one of 4 behind reception. We spoke to the jet 2 rep the next day and we were forced to move hotel as there was no way we could climb the 20 flights of stairs with 2 small children. There was quite a few other families that were moved hotel too. This hotel needs to make some drastic improvements with the lifts, it is no acceptable to expect people to climb up a mountain to go for breakfast or use the pool. Very very disappointed and I will definitely not be recommending this hotel to anyone. Avoid at all costs if you have any mobility issues.

Came for a week all inclusive Currently here till Sunday, first thoughts when arrived late Sunday night not happy no air con to be fair it did not state Air con when booked but in 2022 I just expected it so had to pay 60 euros the next day for air con,our room is very nice clean and comfy no problems at all! Some staff rude the cleaner and the excursions lady very happy, helpful and friendly! Scandinavian tourist season has arrived and staff can't help them enough, myself and my friend struggled to find our apartment and carry our luggage on arrival day no help given by reception staff, to be told by the English entainment that the Scandinavian tourist have there luggage taken to there rooms before they even arrive at the hotel thought was a cheek to be fair, also a free shuttle bus has now been provided to and from Puerto Rico also to andoramas beach, everyone else was suppose to pay for taxis or public bus prior to this (to be fair not that expensive but not the point)! If you are a wheelchair user or elder do not come to this hotel as lifts have broken down numerous times this week (we were on level 1, restaurant level 3, reception and to get out of hotel level 6 so if your not fit and healthy u will struggle to get up the mountain lol) If you do an excursion to see the dolphins 💯 get anti sickness tablets very very choppy we did this which includes a trip to the market in Mogan its a very idelic and quant little town. I would come back to gran canaria but wouldn't stay at this hotel.

Both lifts broken force week. 8 flights of stairs. Staircases filthy, gardens filthy, rooms adequate, cleaning routine abysmal. This hotel needs massive investment. The only positive was the on site Spar. Well stocked and reasonably priced. Staff were always polite and friendly

I have been coming to this hotel for 25yr years and absolutely love it but haven't been since it turned All Inclusive. The good points the food, I've read on here that people have complained about the food, I thought it was good. My family enjoyed the different themed nights especially chinese night. The only night I struggled for something was Greek night but I wouldnt consider it a problem. Absolutely gorgeous setting, yes there is building work going on the other side of the hill but I don't think it would spoil your holiday. We had a 2 bedroom apartment that was lovely and spacious with an ensuite. Now the bad points The dreaded lift situation. Like I said Ive been coming here years and was fully aware that the lifts do break down. On previoys holidays one lift was always functioning, not this time. The storm wreaked havoc for 4 days, we had rain seeping in our apartment, it was like a waterfall trying to climb the stairs and obviously this broke the lift. The hotel cannot control the weather and this was the worst Ive ever seen. That said one of the lifts didnt work for the duration of the holiday bar for our last day and we were there for 2wks. The other lift kept breaking down, once was over a weekend when we had hired a car but I am disabled and because bith lufts were broken I couldnt climb up all the stairs as we were on floor 2. This wasn't the staffs fault but my only suggestion would be to have somebody on call 24/7 to see to the lifts even if its to get just one lift working. There were quite a few days when both weren't working and I had to stay in the hotel as it was too much. Entertainment We know Scandinavians 'take over' the hotel in winter but they complained about everything and the hotel adhered to what the Scandinavians not what the Brits wanted. All inclusive meal time 6.30-9.30pm each night but there was NO entertainment for the children before 9.30pm because the Scandinavians complained about the playing of music while THEY were eating so the music had to be extremely quiet. The entertainment lasted one and a half hours which to be honest isn't long enough. Entertainment should start at 8pm but when I asked why it didnt I was told the Scandinavians didnt like it and would complain. In my opinion I have paid the same price as the Scandinavians but everyone was nervous about complaints being made by them so adhered to THEM not us. If they have such a huge problem with entertainment starting at 8pm then they should either suck it up or go at a different time. My children wanted entertainment but there was nothing for them in the evening. There was a nightly show but that only lasted 45mis then it was usually karaoke....which meant Mr Black from Denmark took over with his own USB who sang songs about people dying of cancer or someones mum who'd died. Im all for karaoke but he was depressing and was allowed to do 2 songs every night. When the Brits wanted to watch a football match the Danes comolained because it was exactly 9.30pm and thats when the entertainment shouldve started. The hotel and entertainment staff pander to the Danes who complain about everything, which means us Brits miss out on entertainment. I remember doing music quizes with Gazza and doing shots if you got the question right. I dont know if it was because it was the end of the season but there seemed there was no energy. To pacify the Danes they did glitter tattoos a few nights, face painting once, one colouring competition and one games night but other than that I don't think the entertainment was enough for those who had children. The music abruptly ends at 11pm because otherwise there would ve complaints about the noise (I can only assume these were Danish). There was one night when the entertainment went on until 11.10pm and the entertainment staff got a good telling off even though the dance floor was full of people enjoying themselves. All Inclusive stops at 11pm but Im sure if the disco went on until 12am the people would be prepared to stay AND pay for the beer for that hour meaning the hotel would make more money. I don't know why the staff seemed to be scared of upsetting the Danes/Scandinavians. There were more Brits then them yet the hotel seems to hold them in higher regard than us. From today it is now a Scandinavian hotel so if I was going to go now I would have to respect that and not complain about the piano player in the corner every night and thats my choice not to go then. It should work the opposite way around too, they should have to sit there and listen to music at a decent volume or play games so that the children can be entertained. Another complaint would ve about Crepes, yes you read it right. You have to pay for them even if you are all inclusive which I find ridiculous €6.50 per crepe. All in all the weather and lift situation did not help and was disappointed with the entertainemt staff but I do think the Scandinavians have a huge input into what they can and can't do at the times they and cant do it. The hotel needs to think about 'allowing' one set of customers to have a ruling majority when they were actually a minority and the entertainment needs to start earlier regardless and any complaints. The ideal time for entertainment would be 8pm-12am which isnt a lot to ask. I would defintely come back but do think the lift and entertainment needs addressing

Arrived 9/10/22 both lifts broken. My friend who has been going to that hotel for 30 year and unfortunately now has long covid had requested a high floor we were on floor 1. Lifts constantly breaking down.Asked to be moved but to no avail.had to constantly climb 7 flights of stairs to get to reception and exit. To treat a loyal customer like my friend like that is disgusting totally but a dampner on the holiday. Will NEVER stay here again. But will be back to Puerto rico.Shame on you Altamar.
