This hotel is set up for children not for adults .comunication is poor we sat in the hotel bistro to be told meals are being serverd in captain jacks down the hill, its a 200 yard walk at night in the drizzle, when you get their its a barn of a place, with fary lights and plastic santas ( i belive it was a old paper mill) . by the way our phone,s had no reception in the hotel or in the village , many of the geusts said the same. On our last full day we where in wells where our phones worked, our daugter texted to ask if we enjoyed the bottell of wine she had paid for ( we had no wine) on our return to the the hotel we asked at reception and they said" o yes its on your details sorry ,do you want it now" (well it was our last night of the 3 we had booked!) .my advice if you are a couple forget it, would i go again NO

This is a modern hotel that is well-presented outside and inside. Double rooms are spacious with full bath and shower, desk space and ample sitting space with armchairs. There is a large flatscreen tv, coffee facilities and hair dryer. Although decor is basic, it is good condition and pleasant. Staff have been welcoming and supportive. Food is also standard fare - simple English cafe style food with chips - but well-prepared. Breakfast is full English at very reasonable price. Table service prepared to order - not a buffet. I have stayed in many more expensive hotels that do not match this in facilities, comfort and service. Last time my work brought me to Wells this hotel was fully booked. I spent twice the price and had fewer facilities. This hotel is a very pleasant simple place to stay and yet competes on price with the most budgetty of the budget hotels. Ohh and it's a witch-themed hotel so expect to get spooked as you walk through the corridors (see picure)

Before we arrived at the hotel I had a notification from my bank to advise that a payment had been taken from my account. I had booked a package with wookey hole and paid in full. They then took a further £79 out of my account. I called and was advised that my money would be refunded despite the fact that a day before pay day we were in a hotel with no funds. We were told we could charge food etc to the room. When we arrived and ordered drinks we were told this was not the case and had to pay. After I complained we were told that yes this could be charged to the room. Captain Jack staff were friendly but service was poor and very slow. So far everything seems run down and lacking customer care. We haven't even been to the caves yet... Hopefully these are slightly better. A Halloween trip for the family has been a total disappointment to say the least :( 1 star awarded as unable to leave 0

We stayed in the witches hat and the superior family room, both were species and clean and tidy. They could do with a refresh decor wise but other than that they are good value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely return

Stayed for a night as part of the Halloween package. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are friendly enough. Can’t comment on the evening food as we chose to go over the road for a meal at the Wookey Hole Inn (delicious!) Breakfast was average- The one waitress was rude when I politely asked for a bowl for my daughters cereal -but everyone else was lovely. Slightly annoying that you have to go out to the attraction itself for breakfast rather than inside the hotel. Not really sure why this is. The room could be improved with some comfy pillows (very flat and hard!) and some little touches for children. The bar is nice and there’s a DVD library which is handy with little ones. Would we stay again? Possibly- it’s reasonably priced for what it is, but will likely try the lodges also
