Quick stop after a lovely walk..not busy.. £20 for a pint, medium wine and a packet of crisps!! I think it’s about time these guys get in tune with the current financial climate! Better local establishments for food and beverage..Try the Good Intent in Puttenham..great food, friendly atmosphere and priced respectively..

Dear Gary C Thank you for your constructive feedback. I am sorry you feel our prices are out of tune with the financial climate. In reality, our prices are in line with most local competition and in our opinion offer good value for money. Appreciate that you may not necessarily agree with this statement. I will be sure to try out your recommendation in Puttenham. Thanks you and kindest regards , ricardo

A lovely experience staying here with the staff I encountered all being warm and welcoming. The room was fairly small, but in it I had peace and quiet, it was cosy and quaint and in lovely surroundings too. Mixed feelings on the food, felt fairly limited on the menu but what I had was good, well located off the dual carriageway and connects to some routes to get out into the countryside. Got a good deal and was beneficial and felt good value as right close to my place of work.

Sorry to say how disappointed we were with the small portions of food for the prices charged. Just as an example: Salmon mouse (very small) with two medallions of sough dough toasted £12. 50 and a minute pot of chips for £4.50. Also the service was not good. Shame, as its a lovely setting and we had looked forward to it. As it is we will not go there again.

I booked this pub for a Sunday lunch at 12 for me, my partner and another couple. The pub itself was quaint and nicely decorated but the service was absolutely shocking. My partners vegan roast was bland and my pork roast came without crackling. We were told there were unlimited roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings but no one came to our table for a follow up so safe to say the lunch was gone before we had a chance to order them. Multiple drinks we ordered didn't arrive and we waited over an hour between courses. My partner had to go and ask where our deserts were which they clearly forgot, for hers to arrive cold. Many people who came in after us were seated and served food before us which was very odd. The staff seemed inefficient with a lack of systems or responsibility, possibly too many seats to serve. They took deserts off the bill but regardless in an age where money is tight still paying £155 for a sub-standard lunch is no longer viable. Safe to say we will not be returning here so I'd say avoid if you have other options!

Dear B7766DZShaneh My sincere apologies for your recent disappointing visit with us here at The Stag on The River. The Sunday you visited us we were not at our best, and we were really trying to deliver the meals as fast as possible, however in all honesty we know we did not hit the mark and we are sorry to have let you and your guests down. I hope you will give us another chance in the future as I can assure you that this is not the usual standard of service, and the reasons for which will be rectified so that this does not happen again. Kind regards Jenny Deputy GM

Some of the worst food I’ve / we’ve have ever eaten. Pâté was a warm liquid.,probably dangerous to serve, sent it back Chicken Caesar was dry with no flavour. steak was badly cooked and very fatty. The stag thinks it’s a restaurant when in fact it’s a pub serving food at restaurant prices with staff that don’t seem to have clue, totally useless and very slow, it wasn’t even that busy. They need training in customer service. We did complain and the waiter gave us his own staff discount, which was, to be fair almost £100.00 off the bill, so thanks and fair play to him anyway. Not returning. Mark , the carpet man.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at The Stag on the River. The rooms were wonderful, the breakfast just perfect but above all the staff were so helpful and accommodating. Many thanks and we'll be back again for a longer stay next time so that we may enjoy more of your hospitality and food.

We needed a room for one night. My usual ‘chain’ hotels were either too far away or too expensive. The Stag on the River was the cheapest available and we absolutely loved it as well as its location. We were greeting by very enthusiastic young staff and our room was beautifully kitted out. It did take us a while to get used to the sloping floor but the room and en suite were scrupulously clean - the bathroom had top end shampoos, conditioners etc as well as huge towels. Not sure why we had bathrobes though, seemed a bit over the top! The bed was comfy and the bedding and pillows exceptional. We even had a digital radio, a coffee maker and fresh milk next door. In the morning a very nice lady provided with a very pleasant continental breakfast ( included in the price) what’s not to like? - would stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.

Very nice setting. Service good, but food not worth the dosh. Well to write 200 words will be quite different. But it's not good value for money. I can't comment on the accommodation though very young staff who are very attentive.

I am very happy to read that you enjoyed our setting, and that you were well looked after with attentive service on your your visit. I do however, apologise that you felt on this occasion, the food was not up to our usual high standard and quality, consequently not justifying the pricing. We have recently undergone some site changes, that are beneficial to the execution of high quality food and service we are striving to deliver, and to enable us to consistently deliver a premium experience to our customers. 7 of us came for a birthday celebration here on a Sunday and it was a great experience. Starters to mains were all tasty, the service was friendly and professional. The roasts are one of the best we’ve had in while, in fact that’s the reason i returned as i came last year for a Sunday roast and wanted my family to experience it this time. The roasts were well cooked and a huge plateful, I had the chicken and ham pie which was tasty and a great extra serving of cauliflower cheese. Highly recommended. Great location too.
